No full textIn an attempt to offer a new approach to the understanding of war poetry, the first part of this essay
focuses on the reasons for the literary genre of poetry being successful immediately prior to and during
the First World War in comparison with other forms. In the second part, the aesthetical relationship
between poetry and war is shown using examples of European poetry from the Twentieth Century.
This essay examines the traditional definition of “war poetry” or “poetry of war”, and prompts an
interpretation of war poems that is not strictly chronological in nature, being representations of the
complex relationship between culture, conflict and memory. A particular conception of history through
poetry is sustained by the contemporary German poet Thomas Kling, who published a series about
the Great War entitled “Der Erste Weltkrieg” in 1999. The subject of the last part of this essay entails
his archaeological approach to the language and his poetical summary of history by means a dynamic
memory process that occurs in the present day

Thyroid carcinoma associated with familial adenomatous polyposis
No full textAims: Thyroid carcinoma is an extracolonic manifestation that is present in about 1% to 2% of patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), Less than 100 cases have been reported in detail. We have investigated the suggestion that FAP associated thyroid carcinoma is significantly different morphologically from both papillary and follicular types and can be considered as a separate entity.
Methods and results: Specimens from three patients with FAP associated thyroid tumours, all but one having single nodules, have been analysed, All three patients belonged to an extended kindred (23 siblings in four generations) who had genetic analysis and intensive screening for thyroid nodules. Seven patients had the same APC mutation at codon 1061. Pathological examination revealed a typical papillary carcinoma, encapsulated variant, in all patients, with follicular areas in one case. All thyroid specimens, in addition to histological and immunohistological examinations, were also specifically studied for activation of the RET-PTC oncogene, that seems to be restricted to papillary thyroid carcinoma. Two of the three patients had RET-PTC activation (PTC1 isoform).
Conclusions: The findings suggest that the tumours were certainly papillary, at least in the present kindred. Further studies in different families are required for a better understanding of this peculiar tumour and of its biological behaviour

The M&G Drive
No full textabstract: The M&G Drive is a proposed venture project lead by Barrett seniors, Elijah Smith and Jenna Fitzgerald. This project aims to educate Arizona State University (ASU) students on the issues of food insecurity around the Phoenix valley and facilitate their involvement in helping alleviate this pressing social matter. Scientific research has shown significant inverse relationships between food insecurity and the following: mental and physical health, social skills, and academic achievement. As the largest public university in the nation, Arizona State holds a self-ascribed responsibility for the health of its communities. In order to address this issue on behalf of Arizona State and from the standpoint of college students, this proposed venture will encourage the ASU student population to reallocate their unused M&G Dollars (ASU’s on-campus currency) to go toward this cause. Rather than being absorbed back by the university system, unused M&G Dollars can instead be used to purchase non-perishables that will then be donated to the local Phoenix community in order to help fight against food insecurity
