Interbank transactions on the intraday frequency: - Different market states and the effects of the financial crisis -
The focus of this paper lies in the study of the intraday distribution of the number of transactions and transaction volume (absolute and mean per transaction) in the interbank credit market e-MID in different market states around the events of the financial crisis of 2007. The results show that the distributions of the number and of the volume of transactions can be characterized as U-shaped and the distribution of the mean per transaction as three-peaked. However, there are important differences when it comes to the comparison of the different market states and the differentiation between sell and buy transactions. Moreover, this study detects stylized facts about the market regarding the number of trades and the volume during the day. Sell transactions are higher in each market state. This highlights the fact that this market is used widely to deposit excessive liquidity in all intervals during the day. Furthermore, differences within these variables during different market states can be observed, which highlights the importance of this analysis. This study can strengthen our understanding of the interbank credit market as it is important for policy makers and the daily trading strategies of banks. Additionally, implications can be seen as the basis for further empirical and econometric research

Empirical estimation of intraday yield curves on the Italian interbank credit market e-MID
This paper introduces a major novelty: the empirical estimation of spot intraday yield curves based on tick-by-tick data on the Italian electronic interbank credit market (e-MID). To analyze the consequences of the recent financial crisis, we split the data into four periods, which include events before, during, and after the recent financial crisis starting in 2007. Our first result is that, from a practical point of view, the intraday yield curve can be modeled by standard models for yield curves providing advantages for intraday trading on intraday interbank credit markets. Moreover, the estimates show that the systematic dynamics in the intraday yield curves during the turmoil were highly noticeable, resulting in a significantly better goodness-of-fit. Based on this fact, we infer that investors in the interbank credit market base their investment decisions on the effects of the intraday dynamics of intraday interest rates more intensively during a financial crisis. Therefore, the systematic impact on the e-MID appears to be stronger and econometric modeling of the intraday interest rate curve becomes even more attractive during a turmoil

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Comparing different methods for the estimation of interbank intraday yield curves
In this paper, we compare three different models, namely the Nelson- Siegel model, the Svensson model and the Diebold- Li model, for the estimation of an intraday yield curve on the Italian interbank credit market e-MID. Using a sample which spans from October 2005 until March 2010, the first important finding is that all three models are highly suitable for the estimation of an intraday yield curve providing superior empirical results when compared with similar works on e-MID. The second important finding is that, based on different in sample statistics, the Svensson model dominates the other two models before, during and after the financial crisis from 2007. Moreover, the Nelson- Siegel model seems to dominate the Diebold- Li model although these differences in goodness-of-fit between these two models may not be statistically significant
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
