Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Valutazione, caratterizzazione ed entità del fenomeno dei ricoveri ripetuti nell'Azienda Ospedaliero Universitaria Pisana negli anni 2018-2021
No full textCon ricovero ripetuto si intende identificare un ricovero successivo ad uno precedente (detto ricovero indice) dello stesso paziente avvenuto nello stesso presidio o casa di cura. Può essere conseguenza della progressione della storia naturale della malattia, ma può anche denunciare una degenza precedente subottimale, o una gestione non efficace della condizione clinica di base. Prevenire le riammissioni evitabili ha il potenziale di migliorare sia la qualità di vita del paziente, evitando di esporlo ai rischi di un nuovo ricovero, sia il benessere finanziario dei sistemi sanitari.
In questo lavoro abbiamo indagato l’entità del fenomeno dei ricoveri ripetuti a 30 giorni per la stessa MDC nell’AOUP, nel periodo che va dal 2018 al 2021. I risultati mostrano una riduzione dei ricoveri ripetuti nel periodo preso in esame (da 5.36% nel 2018 al 4.46% nel 2021), probabilmente per la ridotta possibilità di accesso alle cure durante la pandemia da Covid-19. Abbiamo inoltre osservato che i ricoveri ripetuti interessano prevalentemente il sesso maschile, le fasce di età più avanzata e i pazienti con DRG medici. La durata della degenza del ricovero ripetuto è risultata maggiore rispetto a quella del ricovero indice (differenza di 1,57 giorni, 95% CI 1,36-1,78 giorni, p<0,001) e la degenza del ricovero indice è maggiore rispetto a quella del ricovero singolo (differenza di 0.62 giorni, 95% CI 0.52-0.72 giorni, p<0,001). Un paziente che va incontro a ricovero ripetuto ha quindi una durata dell’ospedalizzazione complessiva di quasi due volte e mezzo la degenza di un paziente con ricovero singolo, considerando sia il ricovero indice che il ricovero ripetuto. Ciò rappresenta un forte impiego di risorse ospedaliere, circa 10.200 giornate di degenza in più rispetto ai ricoveri singoli, che corrispondono a un reparto di 30 posti letto che lavora con un tasso di occupazione del 95%.
La conoscenza dei ricoveri ripetuti costituisce un’importante informazione nella programmazione sanitaria e un utile strumento di monitoraggio della qualità dei modelli di presa in carico del paziente sul territorio, che sono al centro delle ultime politiche sanitarie.
ABSTRACT
The term readmission identifies a subsequent patient admission to a hospital or other health care institution (the first admission is known as index admission). Readmissions can be the consequence of the natural history of the disease, but they can be also the result of a poor prior hospitalization and discharge process or inefficient management of the patient’s underlying condition. Preventing avoidable readmissions has the potential to profoundly improve both the quality of life for patients, avoiding the risks of another hospitalization, and the financial well-being of health care systems.
In this study, we examine 30-day readmission rates with the same MDC diagnosis in AOUP, between 2018 and 2021. The results show a decrease in repeated admissions over the considered period (from 5.36% in 2021 to 4.46% in 2021), probably due to the reduced health care access during the Covid-19 pandemic. Patients that undergo readmission are most frequently male, older, and admitted with a medical DRG. We found that repeated admission mean hospital stay was longer than index admission ones (difference of 1.57 days, 95% CI 1.36-1.78 days, p<0.001), and index admission mean hospital stay was longer than single admission ones (difference of 0,62 days, 95% CI 0,52-0,72 days, p<0,001). A patient with repeated admission stays, on average, almost two times and a half compared to a single admitted patient, considering both index admission and repeated admission. This represents a heavy hospital resource utilization, about 10.200 hospital stay days more than single admissions, which is the equivalent of a department of 30 beds with 95% bed occupancy.
Detailed knowledge of readmission allows strategic health planning and readmissions can be a useful tool in the quality monitoring of the enhancement of primary care that is been pursued with recent healthcare policies

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
