La “Pentalogía (infame) de Colombia” de Daniel Ferreira: una aproximación a su obra

    No full text
Among the new voices of the Colombian narrative, and within the context of a solid and long tradition of literature of violence, we point out the literary production of a young writer of Santander, Daniel Ferreira, who delivered the first expression of an organized “Pentalogía (infame) de Colombia” in his three novels: Balada de los bandoleros baladíes (2011), Viaje al interior de una gota de sangre (2011) and Rebelión de los oficios inútiles (2014). This article proposes an introduction to his work, analyzing above all the literary aspects of his last novel, which, based on a fragmentary and ambiguous construction of documentary marks, relights the deep reflection about the memories and the oblivion of all those conflicts that dramatically portrayed the history of the country

Production of D-s(**) mesons in hadronic Z decays

    No full text
The production rates of the orbitally excited D-s** mesons, D-s1(+/-) and D-s2(*+/-), are measured with the 4.1 million hadronic Z decays recorded by the ALEPH detector during 1991-1995. The D-s** mesons are reconstructed in the decay modes D-s1(+) --> (D*+K0), D-s1(+) --> (DK+)-K-*0 and D-s2(*+) --> (DK+)-K-0. The production rate of the D-s1(+/-) is measured to be f (Z --> D-s1(+/-)) = (0.52 +/- 0.09 +/- 0.06)%, under the assumption that the two considered decay modes of the D-s1(+/-) saturate the branching ratio. The production rate of the D-s2(*+/-) is determined to be f (Z --> D-s2(*+/-)) = (0.83 +/- 0.29(-0.13)(+0.17))%, assuming that the branching fraction of the decay D-s2(*+) --> (DK+)-K-0 is 45%. The production rates in Z --> c (c) over bar and Z --> b (b) over bar decays are measured separately. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved

Intumescent Coatings for Fire Resistance of Steel Structures: Current Approaches for Qualification and Design

    No full text
Intumescent coatings (ICs) are often used for protecting steel buildings during a fire when the structural, aesthetic, and architectural features of the structural members should be preserved. Indeed, ICs form a thin protective layer on the steel surface, that if exposed to fire or elevated temperatures, expands in volume with a consequent reduction in density. Hence, the protective layer captivates heat and protects the structural member from damage or elevated deformation. This reactive fire protection is designed using prescriptive tables, in which the IC thickness is chosen according to the required fire resistance, critical temperature, and section factor of the steel element. These tables are elaborated on the basis of the tests results according to the UNI EN 13381-8 standard, which is the reference for characterizing reactive systems such as ICs. For its reactive nature, this fire protection has to be applied to the structure in a controlled manner, and it is good practice to verify its correct application by measuring thickness and adhesion in situ through regulated methods. The qualification process of IC systems in Italy can be realized through a voluntary certification within the scope of a European technical assessment or by means of a national technical assessment certificate that is mandatory. All these aspects related to qualification, assessment, and design of ICs are often ignored by both designers and manufacturers, especially in Italy. Therefore, this paper describes all the approaches, introducing the main technical differences, in order to provide a sort of guideline on the use of these reactive fire protections

“Fuera en París cristiana musulmana aquí fuera” (BNE, MS/18549/5). La religión en la primera traducción al español de la Zaïre de Voltaire

The circulation of French literary models in 18th-century Spain was characterized by a fluctuating combination of receptiveness to foreign dramaturgy and its rejection. Towards the end of the century, nationalist sentiments grew stronger, leading to an increased use of the derogatory term 'afracesados' to refer to Spanish authors who embraced the French tragic model (Urzaiqui 1997; Checa Beltrán 2004). Opposing the advocates of national theater, Voltaire found himself confronted not only by their resistance but also by the Inquisition, which prohibited the sale of all his past and future works in Spanish bookstores (Lafarga 1975). Despite being centered on the conflict between desire and duty, religion and freedom, his tragedy Zaïre, which drew inspiration from the story of the Spanish martyr Saint Zara, remains one of the most widely translated plays by the French playwright in Spain. In this essay, my objective is to analyze the approach taken by the first Spanish translator of the tragedy towards the religious question
