Possible Cyclisity of the Spotted Activity of AM Leo

    No full text
It is known that the light curves of short-period contact binaries of the W UMa type are constantly changing. Currently, the most likely cause of such changes is believed to be the presence of spots on the surface of their components. Based on the ten-year AM Leo photometric CCD monitoring carried out by the author from 2007 to 2017, the presence of a possible cyclicity of the spot activity with a period of 7.5 years was found.

Based on the 14-year photometric CCD monitoring of the contact eclipsing variable star AM Leo of type W UMa carried out author from 2007 to 2020 at the telescopes of the Kourovka observatory UrFU, the presence cyclic variations in brightness of the system with a period of 7.6±0.6 years, not associated with the phenomena of eclipses and tidal deformations of the components, as well as low-amplitude cyclic variations of the orbital period with the same value of the oscillation period, were found. It was concluded that the low-amplitule variations of the brightness and period of the system are due to the cyclic changes of the magnetic field of the components of the AM Leo, which manifests itself in a change in the average surface temperature of the overall system shell due to changes in the area of cold or hot spots on the surface of the components, as well as the influence of the Applegate effect on the system period

Abstract : This Doctoral Dissertation aims to present the late critical theory of Theodor W. Adorno by analyzing the various elements that compose it: its political dimension; its target audience; its object of criticism; its criticism of capitalism, of the prevailing rationality in modernity, of nature?s domination and of the damaged life; its emancipation project and its normative justification. It is argued that, contrary to the predominant interpretation defends, there was not a replacement of the object of criticism during the theoretical trajectory of the Frankfurtian thinker, from political economy to instrumental reason or to nature?s domination, but rather a complement: so the critique of capitalism was still necessary, but it was no longer sufficient as analysis of the obstacles to emancipation. The work aims to expose both the critical theoretical procedure, the negative dialectics, as well as to question the diagnosis of the time and social trends observed by the Frankfurtian author, and, in the extent that succeeds in this double endeavor, seeks also to be able to establish a critical dialogue between the author, his time and ours

Opportunistic Navigation with Iridium Next LEO Satellites

The concept of opportunistic navigation arises from the future demands that autonomous vehicles will require in order to navigate in a reliable and accurate way in GNSS-challenged environments. Specifically, GNSS signals are not robust enough against intentional jamming attacks and they are unencrypted, making them accessible by hackers and completely spoofable. Some alternatives that have been identified as timely sources of positioning are signals of opportunity, which cluster a broad spectrum including broadband LEO (Low Earth Orbits) satellite signals, AM/FM radio signals, Wi-Fi signals and even cellular LTE/4G signals, and which can be exploited for navigation although they were not transmitted for this purpose. Particularly, LEO satellite signals have inherent attributes that make them even more desirable for opportunistic navigation. First, their received signal power is around 30dB higher than GNSS signals since they are located approximately twenty times closer to the Earth’s surface. Second, they will be abundant in the following years since private companies are planning to aggregately launch thousands of broadband Internet satellites into LEO. Third, they will be diverse in frequency and direction since each broadband provider will deploy its satellites into unique constellations. Unfortunately, there are several challenges with using LEO satellite signals for navigation as it is discussed throughout this document. For instance, there is a need of having specifically designed receivers that can extract navigation observables from LEO satellites and, furthermore, the internal clocks of LEO satellites are not as precisely synchronized as GNSS satellite clocks, requiring the receiver to account for extra timing shifts. In this way, the present thesis addresses the problem of navigating opportunistically with Iridium Next LEO satellite signals by proposing a complete receiver architecture that allows to make Doppler measurements to satellite signals in order to obtain a PNT (Positioning, Navigation and Timing) solution.Outgoin

ABSTRACT Since its introduction, in 2001, the carmine cochineal (Dactylopius opuntiae) already decimated some 100.000 hectares of giant cactus pear (Opuntia ficus-indica) in semi-arid region of Paraiba. This study aimed to evaluate the behavior of five concentrations of orange oil, applied in cladodes on the death of D. opuntiae in field conditions. The research was carried out in a field of giant cactus pear infested by carmine cochineal on the site rigideira, Monteiro County, State of Paraíba. The trial design used was blocks at random (DBR) composed of six treatments [doses of 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, and 0.7% of orange oil (Prev-am)] and water as control and five repetitions. The orange oil known like Prev-Am (Sodium tetraborohydrate decahydrate) was effective against to carmine cochineal as early as the dose of 0.3% and higher potential for efficiency were observed at doses of 0.6 and 0.7%. After 48 hours of application of the product, which was observed at doses applied adults and nymphs of the insect, was dried according to the product action that acts by contact. The product had no lethal effect on ladybugs (Cycloneda sanguinea and Scymnus intrusus), but was lethal to larvae of Baccha sp. at a dose of 0.7%. This paper describes and analyzes an event apparently hitherto ignored by ecclesiastical historiography. I am referring to the publication of an apocryphal encyclical of Pope Leo XIII by several latinamerican newspapers in 1899. This paper is primarily a proposal to study the repercussions the pseudo document had in different countries in order to then be able to have a total view of the matter.
