The home of D.M. Dowdell and family in the area that became Bradenton's Glazier Park. It was built in 1908 for Mrs. Mary Davis Dowdell by her father, Capt. C.H. Davis. She died a month later, leaving six children. The family moved to Wimauma which they named for their girls. This home was then purchased by King Wiggins

Data Integrity Problems in an Open Hypermedia Link Service
A hypermedia link service is system which stores the information describing hypertext links in a database which is separate from the data content over which the links are intended to operate. One of the first open hypermedia link services was Microcosm, which takes this philosophy to the extreme, storing not only the links in a separate database, but also the information about the endpoints of the links. The most important advantage of such an organisation is that the system remains open so that hypertext functionality may be extended to third party applications. The first part of this thesis describes the background to open hypermedia link services and describes the Microcosm system, which was developed by the Multimedia Research Group at the University of Southampton. The major problem with storing all the information about links separately from the content is that such a scheme introduces many opportunities for the introduction of inconsistencies and the loss of integrity of the hypermedia data model. The second part of this thesis examines these problems, and proposes a number of solutions. It concludes that no one solution can resolve all the problems, and that in order to ensure integrity it is necessary to impose some conditions which limit the degree of openness

EEG and cerebral blood flow in newborns during quiet sleep
Cerebral blood flow (CBF) alterations in the newborns (NB) can lead to brain damage by adecrease in the supply of oxygen and glucose. Aiming at contributing to an understanding of themechanisms involved, the association between the EEG (right front-temporal derivation) and Dopplervelocimetry of the middle cerebral artery from term NB has been investigated. These signals weresimultaneously collected from 20 NB and then epochs during quiet sleep (Tracé Alternant, TA, andHigh Voltage Slow, HVS) were selected. EEG power in theta band (Pthet, 4-8 Hz), was estimated eachsecond. For CBF, obtained from velocimetry, the average velocity (V) was extracted for each heartcycle. To investigate the association in the time (cross correlation function - CCF) and frequencydomains (magnitude square coherence - MSC) signal processing techniques were developed that candeal with interruptions in the data (missing samples). During TA, the CCF between Pthet and V resulted in a maximum value around -5 s (Pthet leading V) in 85% of the NBs with p? 0.05(significance was tested by Monte Carlo simulations). The maximum of the MSC occurred around 0.10Hz in 92 % of the NB (p? 0.05). These findings indicate association between the neuronal activity and CBF during TA. Gender differences in self-reported late effects, quality of life and satisfaction with clinic in survivors of lymphoma
Objectives: gender differences in perceived vulnerability to late effects and views about follow-up among cancer survivors have received little attention. As lymphoma affects both genders similarly, we compared the consequences of cancer (late effects, perceived vulnerability and quality of life (health-related quality of life (HRQoL)), and satisfaction with clinic visits between genders.Methods: a cohort of 115 younger adults (18–45 years, >5 years disease-free survival), who had been treated for lymphoma participated. Questionnaires (n = 91) were completed before and after (n = 62) routine consultant-led appointments. Survivors (n = 24) without appointments were recruited by post. Questionnaires included HRQoL, late effects, perceived vulnerability, issues survivors wanted to discuss and reported discussing in clinic, time waiting in clinic and consultation satisfaction.Results: there were no gender differences in number of self-reported late effects or perceived vulnerability. Men with more late effects reported worse psychological HRQoL (r = 0.50, p<0.001). While men wanted to discuss more topics than they did, women were able to discuss the topics they wanted (ANOVA, p = 0.01). Multiple regression analyses showed a shorter wait in clinic (r = ?0.46, p = 0.009) and discussing more topics (r = 0.34, p = 0.06) explained 30.6% of the variance in consultation satisfaction for men.Conclusions: issues surrounding follow-up provision are increasingly important given the length of survival in young adults following treatment for lymphoma. Men may experience poor psychological well-being due to distress about unanswered concerns. Consideration of their concerns should be prioritised, given that satisfaction and ultimately continued attendance at clinic and HRQoL may be dependent on the extent to which follow-up meets survivors' expectation
Davis Aerodrome Project (DAP) – Genetic identification of moss and lichens
Progress Code: completedThe Davis Aerodrome Project (DAP) collected a range of environmental survey data over several field seasons to support a comprehensive environmental assessment of the proposed aerodrome. This data includes flora, fauna, soils, lake ecosystem, nearshore, marine, air quality and meteorological information which has been collected by a number of different methods, and extends across the current Davis Station, proposed aerodrome and supporting infrastructure footprint (Ridge Site), previous sites considered for the aerodrome (Heidemann Valley, Adams Flat), as well as locations across the Vestfold Hills away from any of the proposed developments. <br/>This dataset includes DNA sequences and taxonomic assignments for 63 moss samples (chloroplast trnL and nuclear internal transcribed spacer, or ITS region) and 31 lichen samples (ITS for both algal/photobiont and fungal/mycobiont partners) collected in the Vestfold Hills in the austral summer of 2019/2020 as part of the environmental impact assessment for the Davis Aerodrome Project. DNA was extracted and Sanger sequenced by the Australian Genome Research Facility (AGRF). <br/>The date collected and latitude/longitude are included for each sample where known. Na-ca Exchange And Ca Fluxes During Contraction And Relaxation In Mammalian Ventricular Muscle
There are four cellular Ca transport systems which compete to remove Ca from the myoplasm in mammalian ventricular myocytes. These are 1) the SR Ca-ATPase, 2) the sarcolemmal Na-Ca exchange, 3) the sarcolemmal Ca-ATPase and 4) the mitochondrial Ca uniporter. Using multiple experimental approaches we have evaluated the dynamic interaction of these systems during the normal cardiac contraction-relaxation cycle. The SR Ca-ATPase and Na-Ca exchange are clearly the most important, quantitatively; however, the relative roles vary in a species-dependent manner. In particular, the SR is much more strongly dominant in rat ventricular myocytes, where ~ 92% of Ca removal is via SR Ca-ATPase and only 7% via Na-Ca exchange during a twitch. In other species (rabbit, ferret, cat, and guinea pig) the balance is more in the range of 70% SR Ca-ATPase and 25-30% Na-Ca exchange. Ferret ventricular myocytes also exhibit an unusually strong sarcolemmal Ca-ATPase. During the steady state the same amount of Ca must leave the cell as enters over a cardiac cycle.
