Finite IUML-algebras, Finite Forests and Orthopairs

    No full text
We show that finite IUML-algebras, which are residuated lattices arising from an idempotent uninorm, can be interpreted as algebras of sequences of orthopairs whose main operation is defined starting from the three-valued Sobociński operator between rough sets. Our main tool is the representation of finite IUML-algebras by means of finite forests

The Akazehe of Burundi: Polyphonic Interlocking Greetings and the Female Ceremonial / by Serena Facci. ; translated by Alessandra Ciucci

    No full text
Akazehe is one of the names in Burundi for forms of sung greeting performed exclusively by women. Studies carried out during the colonial era (in particular Rodegem 1965, 1973) and in more recent times (Ndimurwanko 1985-6) have shown how the contents of these greetings among women are closely linked to the feminine world in which these greetings are used—in specific private and public spaces in accordance with rural tradition. Although these greetings were becoming less common at the time the research for this article was conducted, the author was able to record a number of akazehe after listening to examples of them in the sound archives of the Centre de civilisation burundaise. A greeting is defined by linguists as a formalized parenthesis that defines, reiterates, and encloses the relation between two participants. The formulaic character of a greeting makes it different from ordinary speech. In the case of the akazehe, the greeting emphasizes gestural and sound qualities to such an extent that it creates a veritable musical texture. This article presents transcriptions and analysis of some models of akazehe, focusing on one that features procedures of vocal interlocking. The two parts—gutera and kwakira—are organized according to musical rules that manifest a strong spirit of cooperation between the two women who sing the two parts in dialogue. Furthermore, well-defined rules of exchange for the two roles semantically remind us of the social equality between the two participants. The musical enrichment of the time reserved for the greeting is experienced as amusing by the performers. The greeting also represents an opportunity for artistic expression in a social reality that otherwise allows few performance spaces for women

    Aggregation operators on shadowed sets

    No full text
In this article, we study aggregation operators on shadowed sets. In particular, since shadowed sets can be obtained as approximations of fuzzy sets, we explore the relationships between aggregation operators on fuzzy sets and corresponding operators on shadowed sets. We focus on studying conditions under which the approximations of fuzzy sets into shadowed sets represent an homomorphism with respect to the corresponding aggregation operators, and we propose classes of fuzzy set operators that correspond to (and satisfy the same properties as) specific shadowed set operators.(c) 2022 Elsevier Inc. Linguistic taboos in Ayoreo

    No full text
The present paper will address linguistic taboos in Ayoreo, a Zamucoan language spoken in the Chaco area of southeastern Bolivia and northern Paraguay. According to the 2012 census of the respective countries, there were 2,189 Ayoreo in Bolivia (INE 2015) and 2,461 in Paraguay (DGEEC 2014), a total of 4,650 people, almost all of them fluent in their language. The term Ayoreo is a plural form of the word ayorei (m.sg.ff), ayore (m.sg. bf; f.sg.bf/ff) 'human being, 'real person', as opposed to outsiders (Ciucci 2016: 33).3 The Zamucoan family also includes Chamacoco, spoken by about 2,000 people in northern Paraguay, and †Old Zamuco, an extinct language documented by the Jesuits in the 18th century (Chomé 1958 [ante 1745]; Ciucci 2018, forthcoming). The Ayoreo had the first stable contact with Western culture in 1947, but were affected by previous contact with Jesuit missionaries. Indeed, a number of their ancestors had lived for a while in the Jesuit Missions of Chiquitos in southeastern Bolivia (see Fischermann 1988, 1996; Combès 2009), where Old Zamuco was the second language after Chiquitano, the lingua franca of those missions. Ayoreo and Old Zamuco share most of their lexicon (Kelm 1964), which shows remarkable differences from that of Chamacoco (Bertinetto 2014; Ciucci 2016). Recent research has shown that Ayoreo and Old Zamuco share some cultural similarities (Ciucci 2019), but also that Old Zamuco and Chamacoco have at times common morphological features not found in Ayoreo (Ciucci & Bertinetto 2015; 2017). Existing contributions on the Ayoreo lan-guage include dictionaries (Barrios et al. 1995; Higham et al. 2000)4 and grammatical sketches (Morarie 1980; Bertinetto 2014). Ciucci (2016) is an analysis of the inflectional morphology of the language. There are many anthropological studies on the Ayoreo. Among them one can mention (without any pretense to be exhaustive): Zanardini 2003; Bórmida 2005; Pia 2006; Bessire 2014 and Otaegui 2014. An ongoing long-term project was the Diccionario antropológico ayoreo ('Ayoreo anthropological dictionary') by Erica Pia. This work systematised the data collected over many years of fieldwork by its author

    Refinements of Orthopairs and IUML-algebras

    No full text
In this paper we consider sequences of orthopairs given by refinement sequences of partitions of a finite universe. While operations among orthopairs can be fruitfully interpreted by connectives of threevalued logics, we describe operations among sequences of orthopairs by means of the logic IUML of idempotent uninorms having an involutive negation

Hernando de Alcocer y la Breve declaración del Arte y Bocabulario de la lengua del Ynga conforme al estilo y vso de la provincia de Quito. El más antiguo manuscrito de quichua del Ecuador

    No full text
In this article a transcription is presented of what we argue to be the earliest known manuscript of Ecuadorian Quechua or Quichua. This is preceded by a historical study of the author and the circumstances of creation of the manuscript, as well as a brief appreciation of its significance for the study of the history of this Quechua variety

New aggregation strategies in color edge detection with HSV Images

    No full text
Most edge detection algorithms only deal with grayscale images, while their use with color images remains an open problem. This paper explores different approaches to aggregating color information from RGB and HSV images for edge extraction purposes through the usage of the Canny algorithm. The Berkeley’s image data set is used to evaluate the performance of the different aggregation methods. Precision, Recall and F-score are computed. Better performance of aggregations with HSV channels than with RGB’s was found. This article also shows that depending on the type of image used -RGB or HSV-, some methodologies are more appropriate than others.Depto. de Estadística y Ciencia de los DatosFac. de Estudios EstadísticosTRUEpu

A probabilistic tree model to analyze fuzzy rating data

    No full text
In this contribution we provide initial findings to the problem of modeling fuzzy rating responses in a psychometric modeling context. In particular, we study a probabilistic tree model with the aim of representing the stage-wise mechanisms of direct fuzzy rating scales. A Multinomial model coupled with a mixture of Binomial distributions is adopted to model the parameters of LR-type fuzzy responses whereas a binary decision tree is used for the stage-wise rating mechanism. Parameter estimation is performed via marginal maximum likelihood approach whereas the characteristics of the proposed model are evaluated by means of an application to a real dataset.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures, 2 table
