Building partnerships for scaling access to justice for survivors of sexual violence in Pakistan : case studies
No full textWhile women came to Dastak with common concerns such as domestic violence or abuse, each story is different and offered insights which could potentially help improve our understanding of women’s lived experience within a deeply patriarchal society. Dastak becomes a temporary home to hundreds of women every year and each of these women had a unique background and experiences. A need was felt to document not just these women’s biographical data but also the story of their journey to Dastak, their emotions and feelings, their experience of the women protection system in the country as well as their plans and hopes for the future. Dastak started in depth interviews with its residents after gaining their explicit written consent and created anonymous case studies so that Dastak’s work could be humanized and the survivor’s stories could be highlighted. The case studies also helped document insights and key learnings about the women protection system which could potentially benefit Dastak in future cases. Following are a few case studies of Dastak residents who were residing at the shelter between May 2020 and February 2022

Monitoring and case observations in gender based violence court
Get PDFThis report sets out to monitor the protocols established for the GBV Court in Lahore via a series of court observations and study of selected judgements. The aim of this exercise was to not only monitor and assess the implementation of the specialized protocols designed for the functioning of the Court but to also evaluate the performance of the Court and propose recommendations for its improved operations. Dastak monitored proceedings in the GBV Court to mark trends in the application of the human rights-based approach and gender sensitivity in the prosecution of GBV cases. This monitoring also included eliciting feedback from judges, prosecutors and other relevant actors present within the Court. Judicial decisions of the GBV court were also collected for an evidence-based study of trends such as rate of convictions and acquittal and the time taken to decide a case etc. These observations and monitoring will be used for advocacy on legislative and/or procedural reform
ASSESSMENT OF PREPAREDNESS ACTIVITIES AND BENEFICIARY SATISFACTION OF DASTAK ABHIYAN
Get PDFBackground and Objectives: The Dastak Abhiyan is an Initiative of Government of Madhya Pradesh which was pilot tested in November 2016 and showed promising outcomes. This campaign deals with active case finding house to house for Diarrhea, Pneumonia, Severe Acute Malnutrition, Severe Anemia and their treatment and referral by the Dastak Team comprising of Auxiliary Nurse Midwife, Accredited Social Health Activist, and Anganwadi Worker. In this study, we attempted to assess the availability of the drugs and necessary commodities, before the commencement of Abhiyan to frontline health workers and beneficiaries’ response towards this initiative in 4 districts of Madhya Pradesh viz. Jhabua, Sheopur, Raisen, and Bhopal.
Methods: The study used modified WHO’s 30 cluster sampling technique and 7 households in each village were selected for assessment of beneficiary satisfaction and officials at District, Block and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives were interviewed to assess the preparedness of the campaign.
Results: The Preparedness activities at the state and district level were in full swing and with immense enthusiasm but that zeal was found to be missing in the frontline health workers. In our study, we also found out few gaps such as FLWs missed on carrying out few activities Blood Test, MUAC measurement, failure to demonstrate ORS and Handwashing as per the beneficiaries’ responses. The beneficiaries were satisfied at this initiative of Government of Madhya Pradesh and their responses were welcoming towards the Dastak Abhiyan.
Interpretation & conclusions: Our study found the need to strengthen training modules, communication gaps in conveying the training schedules, to customize micro plan in consultation with the ANM of that village. Our study also highlighted the need for supportive supervision, implementation of post-training questionnaires for FLWs to assess the knowledge gained by them during the training session. On our recommendation, the officials at state took corrective measure for WHO color scales having indistinct color shades as complained by the FLWs
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
