Neuropeptide VGF Promotes Maturation of Hippocampal Dendrites That Is Reduced by Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms

    No full text
The neuropeptide VGF (non-acronymic) is induced by brain-derived neurotrophic factor and promotes hippocampal neurogenesis, as well as synaptic activity. However, morphological changes induced by VGF have not been elucidated. Developing hippocampal neurons were exposed to VGF through bath application or virus-mediated expression in vitro. VGF-derived peptide, TLQP-62, enhanced dendritic branching, and outgrowth. Furthermore, VGF increased dendritic spine density and the proportion of immature spines. Spine formation was associated with increased synaptic protein expression and co-localization of pre- and postsynaptic markers. Three non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were selected in human VGF gene. Transfection of N2a cells with plasmids containing these SNPs revealed no relative change in protein expression levels and normal protein size, except for a truncated protein from the premature stop codon, E525X. All three SNPs resulted in a lower proportion of N2a cells bearing neurites relative to wild-type VGF. Furthermore, all three mutations reduced the total length of dendrites in developing hippocampal neurons. Taken together, our results suggest VGF enhances dendritic maturation and that these effects can be altered by common mutations in the VGF gene. The findings may have implications for people suffering from psychiatric disease or other conditions who may have altered VGF levels.Peer reviewe

Photodegradation of organic dyes with nanotitania embedded in hydrogels, 2016

    No full text
The objective of this research was to study the adsorption and photodegradation of Malachite Green (MG) dye by using poly(2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate) (PHEMA) hydrogel and nanocomposite TiO2PHEMA hydrogel. The nanocomposite gels were characterized by FT-IR and XRD. The adsorption of MG dye was examined through monitoring UV-Vis absorption. The kinetic study indicated that the adsorption follows the first order kinetics. The adsorption equilibrium data fit well to the Langmuir isotherm model. The photodegradation of MG dye was examined using TLC UV lamp and medium pressure Hg lamp. It was determined that the unloaded composite gels adsorb MG dye from the solution at the beginning while under the photochemical condition. The dye in the gel was eventually photodegraded, indicating that the photodegradation process is still effective to dyes in the gel system. The composite gels containing anatase/rutile mixed phase titania are much better photocatalysts than those containing pure phase titania (either rutile or anatse)

Time slot offering: the effect of various green labeling approaches on routing performance, considering customers' preferences: A case study at Crisp

    No full text
A relatively new concept within demand management for time window assignment is green labeling; time windows which contribute to improving the routing performance in terms of sustainability. Certain time slots are given a so-called green label. From literature, limited information is known about the choice preference with regard to green labeling and its impact on routing performance. Via choice modeling, certain attributes are estimated based on a data set from an e-grocer. Together with a beta estimate on green labeling from literature, the effect of green labeling on choice behavior is analyzed. The results are used for route optimization where the effect of various static and dynamic approaches are tested. Results show that dynamic green labeling has the most promising effect on routing performance in terms of costs and sustainability. Especially when customers are more nudged toward the largest time windows in less popular day parts. The CO2 emissions decrease by 127.4 CO2 per order and the costs decrease by 1.03 euro per order on average. These results are based on the specific situation of the e-grocer in the case study. With regard to choice modeling, this research is limited to only time window characteristics. The improvements in terms of costs and sustainability per green labeling approach, based on the attributes resulting from real-data choice modeling, contribute to more knowledge on the effect of green labeling on routing performance.Transport, Infrastructure and Logistic

Allokoenenia afra Silvestri, 1913 Figs 1–2 Material examined Typus (♀) and cotypus (immature) GUINEA • Mamou. Description MEASUREMENTS AND RATIO. See Tables 1–2. ADULT FEMALE (“ typus ”). Relative width of opisthosomal segments VIII–XI as described in the diagnosis of the genus by Rowland & Sissom (1980) (Fig. 1A); last opisthosomal segment with dorsal row of 2 +2 setae inserted around its half and two pairs of ventral setae, one inserted around middle of segment and other inserted in its distal half (Fig. 2); flagellum formed by 14 short and rounded segments (Fig. 1A– B), each with whorl of setae of similar shape (at least one setae smaller than others in each segment); flagellar segments 1–3, 5, 7 and 9 with apical cuticular spines. IMMATURE SPECIMEN (“cotypus”). Frontal organ formed by two branches distally pointed and basally expanded, with fine reticulation (Fig. 1C); cheliceral fingers with 8 teeth each; 6 setae (grt, r, gla, esp and 2 esd) on basitarsus of leg IV; relative width of last opisthosomal segments and chaetotaxy of segment XI as in adult. Remarks As previously mentioned, the poor condition of the type material allowed us to observe and describe only a small number of morphological features. From the simple and short description of the female adult of this species provided by Silvestri (1913), which includes a few drawings, it is possible to recognize the following additional characters: lateral organ with a single blade, deutotritosternum with a single seta, and opisthosomal sternites IV–VI with three pairs of a setae flanked by one s seta on each side (1 s +3 a +3 a +1 s). The author also described and illustrated the chaetotaxy of the genital lobes (10 +10 and 2+2 setae on first and second lobes respectively), and illustrated the articles of the palp, leg I and leg IV. However, it is not clear whether he represented the complete chaetotaxy of these body parts. According to the drawing of the opisthosoma presented by Silvestri (1913: 217, fig. VII, 2), the immature already has the primordia of genital lobes, but it was not possible to confirm whether it is a male or a female juvenile. Due to the poor preservation of the type specimens, the collection of new specimens from the type locality is essential for its redescription according to the modern taxonomy of Palpigradi, thus allowing a more detailed comparison with the congeneric species.Published as part of Souza, Maysa Fernanda Villela Rezende & Ferreira, Rodrigo Lopes, 2022, Two extraordinary troglobitic species of Allokoenenia (Eukoeneniidae: Palpigradi) from Brazil: first records of this initially monotypic genus more than a century after its description, pp. 11-48 in European Journal of Taxonomy 789 on pages 14-17, DOI: 10.5852/ejt.2022.789.1627, http://zenodo.org/record/590643

The present paper shows the essential aspects of the new concept of capital repayment as well as evidencing of deposits and of internal financing according to § 4 par 12 Income Tax Act 1988. The first two chapters are devoted to the general fundamental principles of deposits and capital repayment. Based on this, internal financing including the first-time determination method will be examined more closely in the third chapter. The focus of the forth chapter lies on the modified subcontractor technology, which has to be implemented in accordance with the rules of the “Einlagenrückzahlungs- und Innenfinanzierungserlass” of the Federal Ministry of Finance. In further consequence, the management of the evidence accounts for small and middle sized Austrian Ltd companies as well as foreign corporations will be explained in more detail. Finally, the author addresses the question of criminal and financial law consequences in case of non-implementation of evidence accounts. In this thesis the reorganizational regulations of the capital repayment and internal financing will not be elaborated. For reasons of better readability, this paper refrains from using gender-specific phrasing. All personal names refer to men and women in the same way

This study aimed to investigate the analysis of Theodor Adorno on the commodification of culture starting from the 1930s, in order to understand how the concept of culture industry was being sketched in the author\'s work before obtaining its best known formulation as published in Dialectic of Enlightenment, written in partnership with Max Horkheimer, in 1944 in a preliminary version and in 1947, in its final formatting. Our intention is to demonstrate that culture industry originates from a program of research and reflection prior to Dialectic of Enlightenment, pursuing the understanding of the articulation between economics and psychological and cultural, that are synthesized in a unique way in the concept. Adorno\'s reflections, in turn, represents a particular appropriation of Marxist, Freudian and Weberian influences, as well as readings of Walter Benjamin and Max Horkheimer

A memória como cinza em W. G. Sebald: um itinerário

This paper seeks to investigate the nuances of the memory as ashes in the work of the writer W.G. Sebald. Centered on the effects of destruction, Sebald's writing continuously supports the idea of retention. Having The Rings of Saturn as central framework, due to its strong tone of compendium and the amplitude of the examined theme, the following itinerary registers the flux of the rescue of the ashes – understood as residue, reminiscence – through three essential points of convergence: Space, Image and Literature. The abovementioned categories will consider recurring aspects of the author's work, seen through the lenses of the proposed framework. Among them, the following shall be highlighted: the theme of pilgrimage – fundamental strategy of Sebald's narratives, in which the notion of the mobilization of space is intrinsically connected to the mobilization of memory; the strong interest towards the work of art and photography – especially, the understanding of the work of art as a residue; and the constant literary incidences – of the references evoked by the writer to register the memory of the dead, who are, essentially, also writers. Lastly, this paper endeavors to criticize Sebald's work under the perspective of the crossing between the dimensions of memory and oblivion, and, consequently, of the rescue made through his works. When examining Sebald's writing, it is possible to affirm that the author has the formalization of an absence as a principle. This procedure, which will be examined through this work, aims to contribute to the understanding of the work of art through the appreciation of what is forgotten – and must be rescued. It is within this context that the writer's obsessive preoccupation with the past is configured. In correlation, the followed itinerary seeks to replicate this movement of rescue and to unveil the author's intents
