A contribuição de Daniel Hogan para os estudos dos desastres
Get PDFDisasters are social phenomena and their elements of analysis need to identify not only their consequences, but also the historical processes that determine their origin. In this sense, the purpose is to discuss what Daniel Hogan brings to this debate, based on elements related to populations at risk, such as their different conditions of vulnerability, demographic aspects, spatial distribution and the perception of risks and dangers. This paper aims to analyze Hogan's contribution to disasters’ analyses, based on the perspective of Population and Environment studies. Here we present the initial discussions proposed by Daniel Hogan, the dialogues established with other disciplines and three examples of operationalizing studies on disasters involving other elements of analysis.Los desastres son fenómenos sociales y sus elementos de análisis necesitan identificar no solo sus consecuencias, sino también los procesos históricos que determinan su origen. En este sentido, el propósito es discutir lo que Daniel Hogan aporta a este debate, a partir de elementos relacionados con las poblaciones en riesgo, como sus diferentes condiciones de vulnerabilidad, los aspectos demográficos, la distribución espacial y la percepción de riesgos y peligros. Este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar la contribución de Hogan al abordaje de los desastres, desde la perspectiva de los estudios de Población y Medio Ambiente. A continuación, se presentan las discusiones iniciales propuestas por Daniel Hogan, los diálogos establecidos con otras disciplinas y tres ejemplos de estudios operacionales sobre desastres que involucran otros elementos de análisis.Os desastres são fenômenos sociais e seus elementos de análise precisam identificar não só suas consequências, mas também os processos históricos que fomentam sua origem. Nesse sentido, busca-se discutir o que Daniel Hogan traz para este debate, a partir de elementos relacionados às populações em situação de risco, tais como suas diferentes condições de vulnerabilidade, os aspectos demográficos, a distribuição espacial e a percepção dos riscos e perigos. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a contribuição de Hogan para a abordagem dos desastres, pela perspectiva dos estudos de População e Ambiente. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Ensino e pesquisa em estudos interdisciplinares de população e ambiente: o legado de Daniel Hogan nas instituições, nas pessoas e nas ideias
Get PDFThis work presents the legacy left by professor and researcher Daniel Hogan (1942-2010) for the field of interdisciplinary studies, especially in the field of population and environment. For the acquisition of data, we used indirect bibliographic and documentary research of works of his authorship, students and colleagues, personal testimonies, bibliometric analysis, and academic genealogy; in addition to direct observations and participants recorded in notebooks and diaries in which memories and impressions about the teachings of Hogan were collected. The work outlines the academic and personal trajectory showing that Hogan was a sower of ideas and institutions, shaped and influenced generations of researchers, cultivated dialogue and empathy with his colleagues, working at the frontier of interdisciplinarity and aligned with international debates. We conclude that Hogan's legacy remains alive, even 10 years after his departure, and that intellectual heirs can contribute to perpetuating that legacy.Este trabajo presenta el legado que dejó el profesor e investigador Daniel Hogan (1942-2010) para el campo de los estudios interdisciplinarios, especialmente en el campo de la población y el medio ambiente. Para la adquisición de datos se utilizó la investigación bibliográfica y documental indirecta de obras de su autoría, estudiantes y colegas, testimonios personales, análisis bibliométrico y genealogía académica; además de observaciones directas y participantes registradas en cuadernos y diarios en los que se recogieron recuerdos e impresiones de las enseñanzas de Hogan. El trabajo traza la trayectoria académica y personal mostrando que Hogan fue un sembrador de ideas e instituciones, moldeó e influyó en generaciones de investigadores, cultivó el diálogo y la empatía con sus colegas, actuando en la frontera de la interdisciplinariedad y alineado con los debates internacionales. Os dados encontrados na pesquisa bibliográfica e documental indireta de trabalhos de sua autoria e de seus alunos e colegas, nos depoimentos pessoais, em análises bibliométricas e de genealogia acadêmica, além de observações diretas e participantes registradas em cadernos e diários, nos quais foram coletadas memórias e impressões acerca dos ensinamentos de Hogan, subsidiaram este trabalho. Trata-se de um recorte da trajetória acadêmica e pessoal, mostrando que Hogan foi um semeador de ideias e instituições, formou e influenciou gerações de pesquisadores, cultivou o diálogo e a empatia com seus colegas, trabalhando na fronteira da interdisciplinaridade e alinhado com os debates internacionais. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
