The Intersection of Women, Aestheticism and Dance in the Scripps College Dance Department
This is a creative writing: nonfiction thesis investigating how the Scripps College Dance Department came to be and serves a testament to the tenacity of the Scripps College Dance Department. This thesis explores different interconnected histories, regarding women\u27s bodies, women\u27s colleges and dance pioneers at the turn of the twentieth-century, to help explain why dance has the place it does in higher education, offering dance as a space for aestheticism in academia and focusing on the particular intersection of dance, aestheticism and women in a dance department at a women\u27s college. Perhaps by looking at these histories, the current state of the Scripps Dance Department can be understood
Six Characters in Search of an Author
Tonight\u27s production is Pirandello\u27s play about six characters who were created by an author, but left incomplete. They now intrude upon a theatre rehearsal demanding that they be given life. At first, the troupe of players share their Director\u27s view that they are mad. But as the pathetic dilemma of this wayward, disturbing family is unfolded, their reality imposes itself and commands consideration. Are they real ? What is real ? Is a person\u27s role his identity? Eventually the Director and his company, you and I, are made to question some of our previously assumed certainties...https://digitalcommons.otterbein.edu/production_1973-1974/1002/thumbnail.jp

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
65 Years of the Dance Department on the Music and Dance Faculty
This work enables the view into the problematic of the Dance Department establishment compared to the whole situation in the Czech dance school system with the main emphasis on the whole concept of study with its nuances and discrepancies. Except from the inventory of the separate specializations and explanation of the basic problematic related to the specializations and their historical evolution, it is possible to familiarise with the collaborative institutions related to the dance department itself. The specification of the individual specializations together with expression of the most important turning points in the history of the Dance Department remains also not aside. Series of short biographies of the people, whom in setting of the Dance Department were awarded the highest academic degrees, are also part of this thesis as well
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
