Overview of the NTCIR-9 crosslink task : cross-lingual link discovery
This paper presents an overview of NTCIR-9 Cross-lingual Link Discovery (Crosslink) task. The overview includes: the\ud
motivation of cross-lingual link discovery; the Crosslink task definition; the run submission specification; the assessment and evaluation framework; the evaluation metrics; and the evaluation results of submitted runs.\ud
Cross-lingual link discovery (CLLD) is a way of automatically finding potential links between documents in different languages. The goal of this task is to create a reusable resource for evaluating automated CLLD approaches. The results of this research can be used in building and refining systems for automated link discovery. The task is focused on linking between English source documents and Chinese, Korean, and Japanese target documents
Finite element implementation of the Ishikawa concrete drying shrinkage model
The Ishikawa concrete drying shrinkage model is a new computational model which simulates drying shrinkage behavior based on the theory of capillary pore pressure, a known drying shrinkage mechanism. Its initial validation against shrinkage tests shows promise. If the mathematical model can be further validated, it has potential to improve structural engineering simulations, concrete material design and our understanding of concrete drying shrinkage’s underlying mechanics. It would be a significant step forward in concrete drying shrinkage simulation. This thesis will review the Ishikawa model’s working concepts and apply the computational model to existing finite element software. Literature review and behavior of the model implementation shows that this (type of) model is a promising development in concrete drying shrinkage simulation.<br/

Ishikawa diagram in academic teaching
The article shows a new perspective on teaching students to diagnose the causes of complex problems using dedicated tools, such as the Ishikawa diagram. The theoretical part discusses why complex diagnosis of problems is an essential element of a teacher’s work. The author describes the heterogeneity of the school environment and its dependence on the network of relationships with the family and social environment as well as the mental and physical condition of individual students. This part of the article also describes the changes in the structure of the Ishikawa diagram, and examples of how it has been modified in various fields of knowledge. The empirical part is a report on constructing a students’ exemplary diagram. This part discusses using the Ishikawa diagram in the humanities to illustrate the causes of the reading problem among children and adolescents. An analysis was conducted of building expert knowledge by people actively involved in the learning process. The article’s author argues that the Ishikawa diagram is a valuable element in academic teaching, because reflection on any complex problem using visualization methods prepares students to diagnose potential issues in future professional work. The conclusions emphasize the importance of students’ independent reflection on complex problems. Accordingly, the author asks about the primary goal of university education
Automated Cross-lingual Link Discovery in Wikipedia
At NTCIR-9, we participated in the cross-lingual link discovery (Crosslink) task. In this paper we describe our approaches to discovering Chinese, Japanese, and Korean (CJK) cross-lingual links for English documents in Wikipedia. Our experimental results show that a link mining approach that mines the existing link structure for anchor probabilities and relies on the “translation ” using cross-lingual document name triangulation performs very well. The evaluation shows encouraging results for our system. Categories and Subject Descriptor
Generic bifurcations of framed curves in a space form and their envelopes
AbstractThe generic singularities and bifurcations are classified for one-parameter families of curves with frames in the space forms En+1,Sn+1,Hn+1. Two kinds of frames are considered; adapted frames and osculating frames. In particular, we give the classification results on the singularities of envelopes associated to framed curves. The associated envelopes and their singularities are classified. characterised in term of geometric invariants of framed curves. We apply to the global problem of framed curves and to the extension problem of surfaces with boundaries in three space. generalising the results obtained in Ishikawa (2010) [12]
