The collection of articles, entitled «The Legal State and the Rule of Law Doctrines in Modern World,» edited by Valery D. Zorkin and Petr D. Barenboim, compiled by Petr D. Barenboim, and prepared for print in 2013 by the Moscow Publishers «LOOM» and «Justitsinform», contains the articles written by legal scholars from 8 countries, all of which discuss the present content of the Legal State and the Rule of Law doctrines and their interrelationship. This collection of articles starts with the publications by the President of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation Valery D. Zorkin and the President of the American Bar Association James R. Silkenat. It is the first large-scale study on this important topic, co-authored by Western and Russian legal scholars

    Daniel Barenboim.

    The dark side of curvature

    No full text
Geometrical tests such as the combination of the Hubble parameter H(z) and the angular diameter distance d(A)(z) can, in principle, break the degeneracy between the dark energy equation of state parameter w(z), and the spatial curvature Omega(k) in a direct, model-independent way. In practice, constraints on these quantities achievable from realistic experiments, such as those to be provided by Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) galaxy surveys in combination with CMB data, can resolve the cosmic confusion between the dark energy equation of state parameter and curvature only statistically and within a parameterized model for w(z). Combining measurements of both H(z) and d(A)(z) up to sufficiently high redshifts z similar to 2 and employing a parameterization of the redshift evolution of the dark energy equation of state are the keys to resolve the w(z) - Omega(k) degeneracy. We would like to thank E. Masso for encouraging us to explore the degeneracy we focus on in this paper. Our calculations made extensive use of the Beowulf cluster (IFT-CSIC, Madrid, Spain). G. Tree-level FCNC in the B system: from CP asymmetries to rare decays

    No full text
Tree-level Flavor-Changing Neutral Currents (FCNC) are characteristic of models with extra vector-like quarks. These new couplings can strongly modify the B^0 CP asymmetries without conflicting with low--energy constraints. In the light of a low CP asymmetry in B --> J/\psi K_{S}, we discuss the implications of these contributions. We find that even these low values can be easily accommodated in these models. Furthermore, we show that the new data from B factories tend to favor an O(20) enhancement of the b --> d l \bar{l} transition over the SM expectation.Tree-level Flavor-Changing Neutral Currents (FCNC) are characteristic of models with extra vector-like quarks. Supersymmetry and CP violating asymmetries in B-d,B-s decays

We study possible effects of supersymmetry (SUSY) in CP asymmetries in non-leptonic B-d,B-s decays in a variety of SUSY flavour models considered in literature, We use both mass insertion and vertex mixing methods to calculate squark-gluino box diagrams contribution to B-d,B- s-(B) over bar(d, s) mixings. With the squark mixing parameter eta = 0.22, and with large new CP phases, it turns out that the CP asymmetries to be measured in upcoming B-factories, HERA-B and LHC-B, can be completely dominated by the SUSY contribution in almost every considered model. Discrimination between the different models can be done by comparing experimental results in different decay modes. In some models squark masses up to similar to 5 TeV can be probed through these experiments provided the SUSY contribution to B-(B) over bar mixing is at 10% level, \M-12(SUSY)/M-12(SM)\ similar to 0.1. This implies that models with heavy squarks have a fair chance to be tested in the future CP experiments before LHC
