Conditional expectations on CVp(G). Applications
AbstractWe obtain for H, a closed amenable subgroup of a locally compact group G, the existence of an invariant conditional expectation of CVp(G) onto {T∈CVp(G)|suppT⊂H}. As a consequence we prove that H is locally p-Ditkin in G. We also establish relations between cvp(H), {T∈cvp(G)|suppT⊂H} and cvp(G) where cvp is the norm closure, in the set of all bounded operators of Lp, of the set all convolution operators with compact support
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
The vanishing author in computer-generated works: a critical analysis of recent Australian case law
Abstract
The use of software is ubiquitous in the creation of many copyright works, yet the requirement in copyright law that every work have a human author who engages in independent intellectual effort means that its use may prevent copyright subsistence. Several recent Australian cases have refocused attention on authorship as an essential criterion of copyright subsistence, and these cases suggest that much computer-produced output may be authorless and thus lack copyright protection. This article, the first in a two-part series, analyses how each case deals with the question of authorship of computer-produced works and why the use of software diminishes copyright protection for a significant number of computer-generated works. The article critiques the application of conventional notions of human authorship developed in the pre-computer age to modern productions and suggests alternative approaches to authorship that satisfy both the major objectives of copyright policy and the need to adapt to the computer age. The article argues that, without a broader judicial approach to authorship of computer-generated works, Parliament must remedy the lacuna in protection for these ‘authorless’ works. Possible solutions for reform are suggested. In a forthcoming article, the author comprehensively examines those reform proposals
Mapping the Discipline of the Olympic Games An Author-Cocitation Analysis
The authors conducted an author cocitation analysis on prominent authors writing about the Olympics during the 1990s. Author cocitation is an established bibliometric technique that can be used to measure the relative similarities of topics written about by the cited authors. This enables a visual representation of the “intellectual space” of the discipline, in this case the Olympics, to be created for the period under review. So core and peripheral research areas are identified, along with their major contributors. The representation appears as a two-dimensional cluster-enhanced map. Subject expertise was then applied to the results to place labels on the generated clusters of authors and their topics
CVP and Sensitive analysis of Ntow Poultry farm : Layer Production
This thesis is written to analyse the cost, volume of activities and profit of Ntow Samuel, a poultry farmer to aid in making some strategic decisions regarding his new business area of raising 1000 poultry birds for eggs. This analysis would enable the enterprise in determining the units to sell to breakeven, How to gain the expected income as well as how to adjust cost structure to meet up with changing budgeted data.
Also the effect of income tax in this analysis is also examined .In doing this, the CVP and sensitivity analysis technique is used in examining these relationships. The three related ways of modelling CVP relationships namely, the equation method, contribution margin and graph methods are varied in these analysis. A simple excel tool is also created for the enterprise to help manage these components of CVP and sensitivity analysis.
The results obtained indicate that the enterprise breaks even at units of 13838 eggs and starts making profit after the third month of egg production. The venture is thus profitable coupled with the final sale of the spent layers
Impact of early CVP monitoring on 1-year mortality in patients with congestive heart failure in the ICU: a retrospective analysis based on the MIMIC-IV2.2 database
Abstract Background Central venous pressure (CVP) monitoring is critical for fluid management in critically ill patients. This study evaluated the impact of CVP monitoring on 1-year mortality in intensive care unit (ICU) patients with congestive heart failure (CHF). Methods Data from the Medical Information for Critical Care IV (MIMIC-IV) database were analyzed for ICU patients admitted for the first time with a stay > 24 h. Patients were categorized into CVP and no-CVP groups based on CVP measurement. Logistic regression analyses were performed, with propensity score matching (PSM) and overlap weighting (OW) to minimize confounding. Inflection point analysis using logistic regression was conducted in the CVP group. Patients were further stratified into early (≤ 24 h) and late (> 24 h) CVP monitoring groups for additional analysis. Results Among 4,479 patients, 919 were in the CVP group and 3,560 in the no-CVP group. CVP monitoring was associated with lower 1-year mortality (odds ratio [OR] = 0.75, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.62–0.91, p = 0.003). Early CVP monitoring (≤ 24 h) independently reduced 1-year mortality (OR = 0.68, 95% CI = 0.47–0.97, p = 0.032). Predictors of mortality included the lowest diastolic blood pressure, lowest blood glucose, highest blood chloride, and Acute Physiology Score III (APSIII) score within 24 h of admission. Conclusion Early CVP monitoring significantly improves 1-year survival in ICU patients with congestive heart failure. These findings underscore the value of timely hemodynamic assessments in critical care and warrant further prospective validation in diverse settings
A quality-adjusted survival analysis (Q-TWiST) of rituximab plus CVP vs CVP alone in first-line treatment of advanced follicular non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
BACKGROUND: To evaluate the impact of treatment on health states that affect patients' quality of life in advanced follicular lymphoma.METHODS: A quality-adjusted time without symptoms of disease or toxicity of treatment (Q-TwiST) analysis was performed on data from a phase III clinical trial (Marcus et al, 2008).RESULTS: Cyclophosphamide, vincristine, and prednisone plus rituximab (R-CVP)-treated patients gained a mean of 15.17 months in TWiST, 8.33 months in Q-TwiST, and 11.30 months less in disease relapse, without increase in toxicity compared with cyclophosphamide, vincristine, and prednisone (CVP)-treated patients.CONCLUSION: Rituximab plus CVP-treated patients reached a significant and clinically meaningful improvement within 12 months in quality-adjusted survival compared with CVP.
