Evil and suffering are phenomena often central to the studies of theology and psychology, particularly given the high prevalence of these aspects across various world regions, including Indonesia. This research aims to integrate insights from theology and psychology through John Culp\u27s reciprocal approach to addressing and understanding evil and suffering to support the recovery and growth of individuals experiencing trauma. The research method employed is qualitative, involving the analysis of the concept of reciprocity in theology according to John Culp and psychological research on evil and suffering, which are then integrated into the Psycho-theological Reciprocal model. The findings indicate that this integrative approach enriches the understanding and response to evil and suffering, offering a holistic and practical framework for supporting individual recovery, which considers not only theological and psychological aspects but also social and spiritual ones, enabling sustainable and transformative growth for affected individuals.

Middle school arts programs play an important role in studentsâ academic growth. Unfortunately for many middle schools, especially those in urban settings, the arts programs tend to be an ancillary and a minimal part of student education. This is especially true for current public schools facing budget cuts in tough economic times. This thesis examines how collaboration between the John B. Stetson Middle School in Philadelphia and a local community based organization, ASPIRA, in partnership with ArtsRising, revitalized and increased the importance of the school art department.M.S., Arts Administration -- Drexel University, 201

Dispute or Disrupt? Desire and Violence in Protests Against the Iraq War

In “Dispute or Disrupt? Desire and Violence in Protests Against the Iraq War,” Andrew Culp suggests ‘queering’ direct action in order to overcome the limits of rhetorical politics. Culp shows how the Bush Administration’s justifications for the Iraq War were incoherent discourses that drew rhetorical opposition into a politics of identification that made them easy to dismiss. An alternative, he claims, are “bodies that mutter” – subjects of desire whose bodily force continues where discourses fail, which he locates in the Code Pink disruption of John McCain’s speech at 2008 Republican National Convention, AIDS crisis-era queer activism, and radical clowning

    Variations on the Author

    No full text
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
