From this research, the author found three results: first, the role of leadership in PMR, second, ways to improve the performance of PMR members in schools, and third, challenges in PMR leadership in schools

Product Market Reforms in EU Countries: Are the methodology and evidence sufficiently robust? CEPS Working Document No. 332, July 2010

    No full text
This working paper critically discusses the most prominent empirical approach used to measure regulation in EU countries: the OECD product market regulation (PMR) indicators. There are two vintages of PMR: one based on the period 1997-2005 and an improved ‘integrated’ PMR developed over 2006-09. The author finds that the latter constitutes an improvement, reducing or eliminating some of the shortcomings of the first PMR indicators, but that a systemic EU-neglect bias is not addressed and remains a disturbing facet. He first reviews the considerable merits of the PMRs and identifies no less than nine advantages. But the bulk of the paper is devoted to a series of omissions, weaknesses and shortcomings which, broadly speaking, have the unfortunate effect of making EU countries' goods and services markets appear more restrictively regulated than they really are, compared to other OECD countries

Extracurricular activities of the Palang Merah Remaja ( PMR ) can increase the value of humanity students. Where human values are part of character education to be achieved by PKN . Base on the issue explained, the author doing research on "Role of Extracurricular Activities of Palang Merah Remaja (PMR) in Fostering humanitarian Attitudes of student". This Research used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods, which include observation, interviews, documentation studies and the studies literature. Based on the results of data analysis, that student’s understanding of extra-curricular activities were raised by members of PMR in any activity over the nature of humanity, such as similarity, neutrality, independence, voluntary, unity, and universality. Programs and material matter implemented in extracurricular activities Palang Merah Remaja contain human values, which is the material and the program aims to foster self-care students. Problems in fostering humanitarian attitudes of students through extracurricular activities PMR comes from two factors, there are internal factors which derived from own members of PMR and external factors which derived from the parties in the process of extracurricular activities PMR at SMAN 24 Bandung. Humantarian attitude raised in extracurricular activities PMR there are voluntary attitude, responsibility, caring others, sincere and honest. Extracurricular activities of PMR at SMAN 24 Bandung can improve student's attitudes humanity. It can be seen that students are more sensitive of social phenomena that exist in around us. So, extracurricular activities PMR is a means to build the character of students who have a humanitarian attitude and character education, it’s similar to the aim of civics. So, it is advisable extracurricular activities of PMR can be developed in an effort to improve student's sense of humanity

Ramspo

Potential modulation reflectance (PMR) was applied to passivated type 304 stainless steel covered by a passive oxide film in 0.1 mol dm^[-3] sulfuric acid solution. The ellipsometry measurements showed that the passive oxide film was 1.0 nm thick at the beginning of passivation at 0.1 V vs. Ag/AgCl and increased to 1.8 nm with potential at 0.9 V in the transpassive region. Under positive bias, the signal intensity of PMR was proportional to the capacitance of the space charge formed in the n-type semiconducting passive oxide. The Mott-Schottky type plot was applicable to PMR as well as capacitance. From the plots the oxide film was found to behave as an n-type semiconducting layer. A threshold photon energy of 2.4 eV in the PMR-wavelength relation may correspond to the optical absorption edge of the passive oxide

Are you sitting comfortably? The political economy of the body

The aim of this paper is to examine the relationship between the mass production of furniture in modern industrial societies and lower back pain (LBP). The latter has proven to be a major cost to health services and private industry throughout the industrialised world and now represents a global health issue as recent WHO reports on obesity and LBP reveal. Thus far there have been few co-ordinated attempts to deal with the causes of the problem through public policy. Drawing upon a range of sources in anthropology, health studies, politics and economics, the paper argues that this a modern social problem rooted in the contingent conjuncture of natural and social causal mechanisms. The key question it raises is: what are the appropriate mechanisms for addressing this problem? This paper develops an analysis rooted in libertarian social theory and argues that both the state and the capitalist market are flawed mechanisms for resolving this problem. There remains a fundamental dilemma for libertarians, however. Whilst the state and the market may well be flawed mechanisms, they are the dominant ones shaping global political economy. To what extent can libertarians work within these structures and remain committed to libertarian goals

Growth, cysts and kinetics of Borrelia garinii (Spirochaetales: Spirochaetacea) in different culture media

The aim of the present paper was to evaluate cyst formation and growth parameters of Borrelia garinii in a range of media differing in formulation and cost. A qualitative assessment of morphology and motility of B. garinii was conducted. All media were prepared aseptically and used in test tubes or Petri dishes. For each medium, the initial spirochete concentration was standardized to 10³ spirochets/mL. The following culture media were suitable to grow B. garinii: Barbour-Stoenner-Kelly, brain heart infusion and PMR. Growth was minimal at six weeks post-inoculation and maximum spirochete density was observed between 9-12 weeks. Often, the cultures developed cysts of different sizes, isolated or in groups, with a spiraled portion of variable sizes, mainly in unfavorable culture media. Brazilian Lyme disease-like illness, also known as Baggio-Yoshinari syndrome (BYS), is a new and interesting emerging tick-borne disease, caused by Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato spirochetes, only during its cystic forms. It has been assumed that the peculiar clinical and laboratory features of BYS are consequential to the absence of a human sucker Ixodes ricinus complex tick at risk areas in Brazil, supporting the concept that the borrelia phenotypic expression pattern is modified as it is transmitted through the host

Interest Rate Movements and Inflation Risk in the Philippines

    No full text
This article examines the role of inflation risk in the determination of interest rate movements in the Philippines. The analysis proceeds by first estimating a measure of inflation risk that is analytically derived from the consumption-based capital asset pricing model (CCAPM). This inflation risk measure, the covariance of purchasing power growth and consumption growth, is estimated using a multivariate GARCH method on quarterly Philippine data from 1986 to 2005. The estimated inflation risk series is then used in a CCAPM-based interest rate model to help explain interest rate movements in the Philippines
