Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Orthodoxy and west in the spiritual tradition of Romania: the protestant theological debates in the XVII century
No full textI wanted to explore the subject of my research, having in mind, on the one hand, the spiritual tradition of the Romanians, and on the other hand, the attempts at proselytism and the echoes of Western propagandas - especially the Protestant one - as well as the theological debates that arose and in which Romanian theologians and scholars participated, directly or indirectly, in the XVII century, together with Greek, Slav, etc., theologians and scholars. The treatment of the subject entailed three axes of research [1. the presentation of the Romanian phenomenon from its beginning (the birth of the nation and the Christianisation of the Romanian people, the attitude and struggles of this people against the Ottomans, etc.; 2. the description of the political-ecclesiastical situation of the Romanians in the XVII century; 3. the presentation of the struggle that the Romanians together with the Greeks, Slavs, etc., had for the defense of Orthodoxy], which are complimentary to each other. Someone could draw from what has been presented a multitude of conclusions, such as: 1) characteristic elements of the Romanian spirituality in the early times of Modernism, 2) the impact of this spirituality of the XVII century, 3) the cooperation of the Slav, Greek, Georgian, Romanian and Arab elements in a unity of faith beyond the limits of nationalism, etc. I used many methods of research as the analytical, the comparative, etc.Επιθύμησα να διαπραγματευθώ το θέμα έχοντας υπ' όψιν, αφ' ενός, την πνευματική παράδοση των Ρουμάνων, και αφ' ετέρου, τις προσπάθειες προσηλυτισμού και τις απηχήσεις των δυτικών προπαγάνδων, κυρίως της προτεσταντικής, καθώς και τις θεολογικές διαμάχες οι οποίες προέκυψαν και στις οποίες συμμετείχαν άμεσα η έμμεσα Ρουμάνοι θεολόγοι και λόγιοι σε συνεργασία με Έλληνες, Ρώσους κ.α. λογίους και θεολόγους από όλο τον ορθόδοξο κόσμο, ιδιαίτερα κατά τον ΙΖ' αιώνα. Η διαπραγμάτευση του θέματος επέβαλε τρεις άξονες έρευνας [1. η παρουσίαση του ρουμάνικου φαινομένου από τις αρχές του (η εθνογένεση, ο εκχριστιανισμός του ρουμάνικου λαού, η στάση και οι αγώνες αυτού) του λαού έναντι των Οθωμανών κ. α.)˙ 2. η περιγραφή της πολιτικο-εκκλησιαστικής καταστάσεως των Ρουμάνων κατά τον ΙΖ' αιώνα˙ 3. η παρουσίαση του αγώνα υπερασπίσεως της ορθόδοξης πίστεως που διεξήχθη από τους Ρουμάνους μαζί με τους Έλληνες, Σλάβους κ.α.], που είναι συμπληρωματικοί μεταξύ τους. Πλήθος συμπερασμάτων μπορεί να διαπιστώσει εκείνος που μελετά αυτά που εκτέθηκαν, όπως: 1) χαρακτηριστικά στοιχεία της ρουμανικής πνευματικότητας στις αρχές του Νεωτερισμού, 2) τις συνέπειες αυτής της πνευματικότητας του ΙΖ' αιώνα, 3) τη συνεργασία σλαβικών, ελληνικών, γεωργιανών, αραβικών και ρουμανικών παραγόντων, σε μία ενότητα πίστεως πέρα από τα όρια του έθνοφυλετισμού κ.λπ. THE IMPORTANCE OF DRUG THERAPY IN THE TREATMENT OF CHRONIC GRANULOMATOUS APICAL PERIODONTITIS

Periodontita apicală cronică granulomatoasă este o afecţiune inflamatorie persistentă, cu caracter histologic specific şi manifestări radiologice de resorbţie osoasă apicală. Decontaminarea completă a sistemului canalar endodontic depinde esenţial de irigarea riguroasă cu soluţii antiseptice. Scop. Analiza importanţei protocolului de irigare în tratamentul endodontic al periodontitelor apicale cronice granulomatoase prin monitorizarea evoluţiei radiologice a procesului. Material şi metode. În studiu s-au analizat 7 cazuri clinice de periodontită apicală cronică granulomatoasă. Diagnosticul a fost stabilit clinic şi radiologic. S-a efectuat izolare cu rubber dam, instrumentare cu tehnica „Crown-Down” folosind instrumentar rotativ NiTi, irigare secvenţială cu NaClO 5,25% şi EDTA 17%, aplicare de Ca(OH)2, obturare cu AH+ şi gutapercă. Rezultate. Toţi pacienţii incluşi în studiu au fost trataţi în două şedinţe şi au fost evaluaţi radiologic la un interval de 3, respectiv 6 luni după finalizarea tratamentului. În 6 dintre cele 7 cazuri analizate s-a constatat regresia evidentă a leziunilor periapicale, iar în unul dintre cazuri s-a observat stoparea progresiei şi stagnarea procesului inflamator. Rezultatele obţinute au confirmat importanţa esenţială a protocolului de irigare în reducerea semnificativă a încărcăturii bacteriene, asigurând un prognostic favorabil pe termen lung, în special în leziunile granulomatoase, caracterizate prin proliferarea cronică a ţesutului de granulaţie. Concluzii. Irigarea riguroasă, realizată conform protocolului antiseptic, alături de activarea chimică sau ultrasonică a irigantului, constituie etape fundamentale în tratamentul endodontic al periodontitei apicale cronice granulomatoase, favorizând controlul infecţiei şi stimularea vindecării osoase.Introduction. Chronic granulomatous apical periodontitis is a persistent inflammatory condition with specific histologic character and radiologic manifestations of apical bone resorption. Complete decontamination of the endodontic system depends essentially on rigorous irrigation with antiseptic solutions. Objective. Analysis of the importance of the irrigation protocol in the endodontic treatment of chronic granulomatous apical periodontitis by monitoring the radiological evolution of the process. Material and methods. In the study there were seven cases of chronic granulomatous apical periodontitis analyzed. Diagnosis was both clinical and radiological. Treatment included rubber dam isolation, “Crown-Down” NiTi instrumentation, sequential irrigation with 5.25% NaOCl and 17% EDTA, Ca(OH)2 application, and obturation with AH+ and gutta-percha. Results. All patients included in the study underwent endodontic treatment in two sessions and were radiologically evaluated at intervals of 3 and 6 months following the completion of therapy. In 6 out of the 7 cases analyzed, a marked regression of periapical lesions was observed, while in one case, progression was halted and the inflammatory process remained stable. The results confirmed the critical importance of the irrigation protocol in significantly reducing the bacterial load, contributing to a favorable long-term prognosis, particularly in granulomatous lesions, which are characterized by the chronic proliferation of granulation tissue. Conclusion. Thorough irrigation, following antiseptic protocol, along with chemical or ultrasonic activation of the irrigant, represents a fundamental step in the endodontic management of chronic granulomatous apical periodontitis, promoting effective infection control and stimulation of bone healing
