ABSTRACT Introduction: The article presents an assessment of the figure of Ramiro Guerra y Sánchez given not only by its author but also by valuable intellectuals contemporary with Guerra such as Carlos Rafael Rodríguez, Raúl Roa, Medardo Vitier, Fernando Ortiz, Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring. Methods: In this study about Ramiro Guerra, a distinction of his intellectual productionis made along two main lines: the texts with pedagogical content and critical analysis to Cuban education and the historiographic essay. Results: Specifically, the author pauses in the analysis of two works considered «minor» within his historiographical task: Mudos Testigos (1948) and Por las veredas del Pasado (1957), which demonstrate the valuable contribution of Ramiro Guerra to the social, regional and rural family history in Cuba between the end of the 19.th century and the beginning of the 20.th century. Conclusions: The conclusions are aimed at placing Ramiro Guerra in a very important position within the Cuban intelligentsia of the 20.th century and to understand his validity in Cuban historical studies.RESUMEN: Introducción: En el artículo se presenta una valoración de la figura de Ramiro Guerra y Sánchez dada no solamente por el autor del trabajo sino por valiosos intelectuales contemporáneos con Guerra como Carlos Rafael Rodríguez, Raúl Roa, Medardo Vitier, Fernando Ortiz, Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring.

In answering the question, what has already been established in the concept of software as a protected work or what is related to copyright in photographs is useful.Fil: Carranza Torres, Luis Ramiro. Exploration of biomaterials design space through combinatorial and high-throughput approaches: tyrosine-derived polycarbonates as a case study

    No full text
The use of combinatorial and high-throughput approaches in the design and exploration of materials space has been gaining increasing acceptance in recent years. While these methods have been successfully employed in the development of materials for the fields of electronics and optics, only a few examples exist within the field of biomaterials science. While there is a clear need for complex polymer structures that can be tailored for specific applications, most current research is being done on the basis of "trial and error" approaches that simply cannot keep up with the demand for novel technologies. As part of the work involved in this thesis, the number of viable biomaterial candidates was increased by varying the chemical composition of tyrosine-derived monomers in two positions, namely the backbone and pendent chain. The resulting monomers proved to have different physical and chemical properties, derived from small modifications to their chemical structure. In order to effectively synthesize several compositions of tailored tyrosine-derived polycarbonates, automated synthetic procedures were created and evaluated in a modern robotic platform. The challenges involved in the automation of polycondensation reactions, such as liquid handling, dropwise addition, and toxic chemical handling, were addressed successfully. A considerable amount of time was saved in comparison to manual methods when generating large polymer libraries. In order to study structure-property relationships, the mass-per-flexible-bond principle was used to quantitatively explain the large range of glass transitions observed in a library of polymers containing homo-, co-, and terpolymers. Within this context, the information gathered in this thesis is expected to be used as a guideline for the rational design of polymers for specific applications. The information derived from this work made it possible to ascertain that future research can certainly benefit from the automated parallel synthesis methods developed during it, as well as from the linear relationships found. It is expected for the research done in this thesis to have a definite impact not only on the use of combinatorial and high-throughput approaches in polymer science, but also on the informatics aspect involved.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical references (p. 158-165)by Ramiro Rojas Escontrilla

Capturing and radio ear-tagging neonatal vicuñas

We used and evaluated the effectiveness of a hand-capture technique to capture and mark neonatal vicuñas (Vicugna vicugna) at San Guillermo National Park, west-central Argentina. We captured and marked 98 neonates during 5-31 January, 2008-2010. Capture success was 92% (106 attempts), with stationary marking teams being 2.5 times as successful in detecting and capturing neonates as mobile ones. Of neonates captured, 99% were 20 minutes old typically were too mobile to capture. Sex ratio at capture was biased toward males (1.5:1), while mean body weight and neck circumference were similar between sexes. Generally, mothers remained in sight during, and immediately reunited with their neonates after, capture. Four percent of the mothers ran out of sight but then returned, while 2% failed to return. Capture-related mortality was 5%, with maternal abandonment in response to capture activities (n = 3) the leading cause. Ear-tag transmitter had minimal effects on subsequent ear position. The success of our technique likely was based on terrain (flat) and vegetative conditions (short grass), high densities of animals for monitoring (particularly in a meadow), and a predictable, pulsed birth season. This hand-capturing method was efficient for handling and marking neonatal vicuñ as. Combined with the use of ear-tag transmitters, it allows the study of important perinatal processes, including movement and mortality.Fil: Donadio, Emiliano. Luis Ramiro Beltrán Salmón, who died on July 11th, 2015, was the most important Bolivian thinker of communication and the standard-bearer of the Latin American utopia of communication for democratic development with social justice and sovereignty. He began being a journalist when he was only 12 years old and at his 40 became a reference point for the specialized critical thinking in the region which basis helped to build with his intellectual work. His major concerns were communication and development, communication and democracy, and finally communication research. His proposals about National Communication Policies, Horizontal Communication and the Communicology of Liberation are still valid, fact that makes him into a classic author in the Communication field.

A few months ago a self-regulated institution of press activities emerged in Bolivia: the defender of the reader. The Bolivian Communication Specialist, Luis Ramiro Beltrán, talks profoundly about the issue in this presentation, read in public at his installation as defender of the reader in the Group of the Leading Press of his country. He makes us see in it the immense power of the media, that apparently has neither barriers nor brakes, except those that journalists might impose through ethics, a barrier which according to the author must be impervious to excesses and absurdities.
