Un esperimento ( a cura di Salvatore Silvano Nigro, nelle edizioni Sellerio: 2007, pp. 156) è un trattamento cinematografico inedito (e sconosciuto) di Giorgio Bassani che, scritto nel 1955, si presenta come una storia milanese coeva alla composizione delle Cinque storie ferraresi dello scrittore. Una introduzione critica, una Nota al testo e due Appendici, ricostruiscono il dibattito attorno ai Promessi Sposi di Manzoni negli anni Cinquanta, con il recupero di molte testimonianze inedite (una di queste, il saggio Criteri di massima per la sceneggiatura di un film dei Promessi Sposi di Riccardo Bacchelli, è stato pubblicato a parte, con accompagnamento critico, nella rivista «La Modernità Letteraria», 2, 2009). Il libro dà un contributo fondamentale allo studio del manzonismo bassaniano e alla conoscenza dell’interesse per Manzoni da parte del cinema italiano.I Promessi Sposi. Un esperimento (ed. Salvatore Silvano Nigro, Palermo, Sellerio, 2007, pp. 156) brings forth an unknown and unpublished cinematographic treatment of Manzoni’s novel by Giorgio Bassani. Written in 1955, it is a ‘story from Milan’, parallel to the coeval Cinque storie ferraresi by the same author. The critical introduction, with the note to the text and the two appendices, discloses the dynamics of the Italian debate on the Promessi Sposi during the Fifties, availing itself of many unpublished documents—one of whom, the essay “Criteri di massima per la sceneggiatura di un film dei Promessi Sposi” by Riccardo Bacchelli, was published with a critical introduction in “La Modernità Letteraria”, 2, 2009). I Promessi Sposi. Un esperimento offers, then, a fundamental contribution to the study of Bassani’s ‘manzonism’ and of the Italian cinematographic industry’s interest in and knowledge of Manzoni

Predomina en su producción el valor de la palabra que el autor ensalza mediante un lenguaje coloreado de metáforas, reiteraciones y usos propios de la tradición popular: refranes, proverbios, leyendas y fragmentos líricos. Un estilo de escritura que ilustra perfectamente el tema que más inquieta al escritor. El tema de la pérdida de la cultura popular que para él está representada en la cultura mediterránea. En el Mediterráneo precisamente encuentra Nigro el punto de unión de toda su temática: la inmigración, la marginación del Sur, el mito de América, la fuga y la muerte como solución de la vida.[EN] Through / Fuochi del Basento, Ombre sull'Ofanto, Diario Mediterráneo and Viaggio a Salamanca the main ideas that characterise the whole work of Raffaele Nigro can be extracted. This is a style of writing that perfectly illustrates the topic that most concerns the writer, the topic of the loss of folk culture that for him is represented in Mediterranean culture. The Mediterranean is precisely where Nigro finds the point of union of all his themes: emigration, marginalization of the south, the myth of America, flight and death as a solution to life

The sacred pool of Ba'al: a reinterpretation of the ‘Kothon’ at Motya
No full textThe Phoenician island-city of Motya, off the west coast of Sicily, has long been a focus of archaeological research. Earlier excavations identified a large rectangular basin interpreted, by analogy with Carthage, as a ‘kothon’ or artificial inner harbour. Recent investigations of this feature, however, lead the author to a new interpretation. Rather than a harbour, the so-called ‘Kothon’ is revealed as a sacred freshwater pool at the centre of a monumental circular sanctuary hosting three large temples. The pool, watched over by a statue of Ba'al, also served as a surface for observing and mapping the movement of stars, as emphasised by the alignment of structures and features positioned around the sacred enclosure

Une jeunesse au Moyen-Orient (1978-1985) by the Franco-Syrian cartoonist Riad Sattouf, this contribution aims to investigate the construction of hegemonic masculinity in Gaddafi's post-colonial Libya and Hafez al Assad's Syria. First, this study intends to track the stages of Riad's journey towards the achievement of hegemonic masculinity. In this context, a special focus will be laid on the construction of the mother's character through that of the father, thereby showing how the female character takes shape from the male perspective. Second and finally, it attempts to analyse how the author implements a deconstruction path of hegemonic masculinity by using certain rhetorical devices, namely irony, stereotype repetition and the adoption of his own perspective as a child
Risk based, multi objective vehicle routing problem for hazardous materials: A test case in downstream fuel logistics
No full textThe paper analyses a practical case of study related to the distribution of fuels for the Total Erg Oil Company to the service stations located in the Province of Rome (Italy). The problem is formulated as a capacitated vehicle routing problem with time windows, where several heuristic procedures have been tested, considering both static and dynamic travel times. With respect to the standard operational costs used typically, a multivariable objective function has been proposed which takes into account also a new risk index. The risk index proposed is function of the population density of the zones covered by each path and of the estimated number of road accidents on each road link. In such a way, we take into account the population's exposure to the risk associated with an incidental event involving a fuel tank. The obtained output is the set of planned routes with minimum service cost and minimum risk. Results demonstrate how an accurate planning of the service saves up to 3 hours and 30 km on a daily basis compared to a benchmark. Moreover, the distribution company can parameterize the configuration of the service, by varying the weight adopted in order to include the risk index. Including the risk index may bring to a higher safety route planning, with an increase of the operating costs of only 2%

No full textThe actions to be taken on urban Periferies, with a view to the Agenda 2030 SDGs, need new tools, starting from the identification of contemporary quality architectures within the extended field of recent construction production. The census activities are the first step to promote heritage’s knowledge and valorization and, in the long term, conservation and protection. This study, moving from the National Census of Italian Architecture of the late Twentieth Century and “Città pubblica” Census, identifies the salient points of this scientific tool and traces the development lines that can outline future scenarios in the integrated requalification of the public housing Quarters belonging to the Poetics of the large dimension with Author declination. Although these buildings, from a historical-critical point of view, are already fully included in the Cultural Heritage concept and the Census is an evidence still for them there is no defined technological and environmental operational strategy that adapts them to the needs and uses of contemporary society, compatibly with the "designing intentions" and with their recognized cultural value. Through the definition of technological-environmental criteria on national cases, the characteristics of the building-type are described and long-term strategies are illustrated, allowing the artefact’s transmission as evidence of Italian architectural culture’s period and taking the form of a small-scale green city concept approach
