THE EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS OF TECHNOLOGY AND FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENTS
Get PDFThe main aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between foreign direct investment and R&D spending using panel co-integration methods for upper middle-income economies and high-income economies. A larger level of investment is needed to increase the capital stock in order to ensure growth, but the typically low savings rate makes this difficult to achieve. Theoretically, it is expected that foreign direct investments would solve the saving inadequacy problem of the target country leading to economic growth by increasing capital accumulation. In this study, Levin Liu Chu and Pesaran Shin Unit Root tests, Pedroni panel co-integration tests was applied. According to the co-integration analysis, foreign direct investment and R&D spending move together in the long run. The results of the panel co-integration test which examines the long-term relationship, showed that R&D spending has stronger effect on foreign direct investment. In a globalized world, technology is one of the most important determinant of competition among countries. Technology improves profitability and competitiveness by increasing productivity. It can be seen that technological developments are coupled with economic growth throughout the history. With the involvement of technology transfers in production, added value will increase in manufacturing industry, so this will accelerate the process growth. Infrastructural investments, education system reforms tax reduction should be provided by government to promote technology level. The findings of this paper underline that capital accumulation and foreign direct investment are very important for countries in terms of development.

No full textIn this study, the effects of KOSGEB subsidies on the foreign trade of SMEs were examined and the actions necessary to be taken by KOSGEB (SME Development Organization in Turkey) were emphasized. In the study, T test, ANOVA test and TUKEY tests were used and the study was conducted in Gaziantep, which is the 6th biggest city in Turkey. According to the results, companies’ problems are accessing markets, financial problems, qualified personnel, language, and high personnel, raw material and production costs. Carrying out activities by KOSGEB such as market research, finding customers, providing financial support, contribution to qualified personnel salary, encouraging and supporting R&D activities, and providing consultancy are very important to solve the problems.U ovom radu, proučavani su efekti subvencija agencije KOSGEB (Organizacija za razvoj MSP u Turskoj) na izvozne aktivnosti MSP i naglašene su aktivnosti koje bi KOSGEB trebalo da preduzme. Korišćeni su T test, ANOVA test i TUKEY test, a istraživanje je sprovedeno u Gazijantepu, šestom po veličini gradu u Turskoj. Prema rezultatima, problemi kompanija su pristup tržištima, finansijski problemi, kvalifikovano osoblje, jezici, i visoki troškovi za kadrove, sirovine i proizvodnju. Za rešavanje ovih problema, KOSGEB treba da sprovede aktivnosti kao što su istraživanje tržišta, pronalazak mušterija, pružanje finsnijske podrške, doprinos platama kvalifikovanog osoblja, podrška aktivnostima istraživanja i razvoja i pružanje konsultatntskih usluga
Economic Freedom and FDI: Co-Integration Analysis
Get PDFThese days, economic growth is very important for all countries and this article will discuss the main factors associated with this problem and propose some possible solutions which can be implemented. The importance and relationship of foreign direct investment, economic growth and economic freedom are presented and evaluated by considering literature, and a long run relationship between foreign direct investment and economic freedom in Turkey is empirically analysed in the article. The time period covers the years 1996 to 2018. The data has been obtained from the World Bank and from theHeritage Foundation database. The analysis is based on the time series analysis. An Augmented Dickey-Fuller test hasindicated that the variables are not stationary at levels, but they are stationary at the first difference. The Johansen test hasshown that variables are co-integrated, which means that they move together in the long run
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
