Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

For this reason, the following investigation considered as fundamental objective to porpoise a strategic plan for the strengthenly of the organizational communication in the managing leadership for the professor belong to National Experimental University “Francisco de Miranda” Churuguara Academic Campus. This investigation is referring to the line investigation: Planification and Corporative Strategic Communication. The theoretical corpus refers to: the communication theory explained by McEntee (1996), the human relationship exposed by Chiavenatto (1999) and managing leadership refers to Ivancevich (2009). In consideration on methodological approach, is used quantitative method, investigation camp is type with descriptive level and considering feasible project. The poblation were adopted by 12 professors without directions functions and 04 professors with directions functions. For the recollections of data were used inquiry like technique and the questionnaire like instrument. The investigation procedures were adopted by phases: propose needs identification, factibility of the study and the design propose.It was considered the result of interpretation between statistics analysis also for the validation required by experts in content evaluation (three professors) and the confiability was the resolute of Alpha de Cronbach coefficient. Finally, a strategic plan was developed with the investigation and it was possible to contribute significantly to the total transformation of organizational culture finded. La eficiencia en la gestión de las instituciones educativas, está vinculada a la eficacia del proceso comunicativo empleado por los docentes con funciones directivas para la promoción de un clima favorable en la praxis del cuerpo profesoral. Por ello, la presente investigación tuvo como objetivo fundamental proponer un plan estratégico para el fortalecimiento de la comunicación organizacional en el liderazgo directivo de los docentes de la Universidad Nacional Experimental “Francisco de Miranda” Núcleo Académico Churuguara. La misma estuvo orientada en la línea de investigación: Planificación y Comunicación Estratégica Corporativa. El corpus teórico lo constituyen: La Teoría de la Comunicación argumentada por McEntee (1996), la Teoría de las Relaciones Humanas desde la filosofía de Chiavenatto (1999), y el Liderazgo Directivo descrita por Ivancevich (2009).En cuanto a su enfoque metodológico, se utilizó el Paradigma Cuantitativo, el tipo de Investigación es de Campo con nivel Descriptivo. Get PDFIn this research, the objective was to analyze the problem-solving skills at various stages of the teaching and learning process, considering the characteristics of mathematical competencies from a higher education perspective. By applying a comprehensive competency-based approach, the aim is to enhance all components of mathematical problem-solving skills and strategies, following the postulates of Pólya (1965). Methodologically, a documentary design with a heuristic review of sources was employed, examining the fundamental principles of competency-based mathematics teaching. Additionally, a coherent system for content selection in mathematics teaching for higher education students was developed, based on previous research. It was concluded that universities can improve and feedback their organizational structures and procedures, redefining the role of assessment in certain elements of learning related to problem-solving and mathematical competencies.En esta investigación, el objetivo fue analizar la resolución de problemas en distintos momentos del proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje, considerando las características de las competencias matemáticas desde una perspectiva de educación superior. Al aplicar un enfoque integral centrado en competencias, se busca potenciar todos los componentes de las habilidades y estrategias de resolución de problemas matemáticos, siguiendo los postulados de Pólya (1965). Metodológicamente, se empleó un diseño documental con un arqueo heurístico de fuentes, examinando los principios fundamentales de la enseñanza de las matemáticas basada en competencias. Además, se desarrolló un sistema coherente para la selección de contenidos en la enseñanza de las matemáticas para estudiantes de educación superior, basado en investigaciones previas. Se concluyó que las universidades pueden mejorar y retroalimentar sus estructuras organizativas y procedimientos, redimensionando el papel de la evaluación en determinados elementos del aprendizaje relacionados con la resolución de problemas y las competencias matemáticas
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
