The determinants of decision time in an ambiguous context
No full textThis paper builds on the data from a published paper on behaviour under ambiguity (Conte & Hey, 2013)—henceforth C&H—to explore the determinants of decision time. C&H categorized individual subjects as being of one of four types (of decision-maker)—Expected Utility, Smooth Ambiguity, Rank Dependent and Alpha Expected Utility—by using the decisions of the subjects, but did not look at the decision times of the different types. We take as given the categorization identified by C&H, and explore whether the classification can explain the decision times of the subjects. We investigate whether and why different types take a different amount of time to decide. We explore the effects of various features related to (mainly psychological) theories of the process of decision-making—i.e., experience with the task, complexity, closeness to indifference and similarity of the options. Our results show that different types take a similar time to make their decisions on average, but decision times of different types are explained by different features of the decision task. This paper is the first investigating the heterogeneity of decision times based on a classification of subjects into different types in an ambiguous (rather than risky) decision context

U uvodnom dijelu članka dan je pregled do sada objavljenih splitskih pečata i pečatnjaka, te se analizira kada se prvi put u Splitu javlja titula comes (knez).Nell'articolo è pubblicato il disegno di un sigillo plumbeo del conte Ivan la cui esistenza è documentata tra il 1167 e il 117 4. Il sigillo si trovava una volta nella collezione di Vicko Solitro, ed è oggi perduto. Nella parte introduttiva dell'articolo è presentato il prospetto dei sigilli e dei timbri spalatini finora publicati, ed è oggetto di analisi la prima comparsa del titolo di comes a Spalato (Split)
Ivan Žuvela Šabo and His Etnographic Record from 1892
No full textU ovom tekstu otkriva se identitet autora jednog starijeg etnografskog zapisa nastalog na otoku Korčuli. Riječ je o rukopisu „Narodne pjesme junačke i žetelačke“ iz 1892., a koji se čuva u Arhivu Odsjeka za etnologiju Hrvatske akademije znanosti i umjetnosti u Zagrebu. Iako je u tom rukopisu autor potpisan kao „Ivan Žuvela, pravnik“, dosada ga se nije moglo točnije identificirati, iznesena je kriva pretpostavka, a čak se i spekuliralo da je riječ o pseudonimu. Istraživanjem dostupnih izvora i novinskih zapisa ipak se utvrdilo kako je zaista riječ o Velolučaninu Ivanu Žuveli iz grane Šabo, studentu prava koji je umro u svojoj 23-oj godini života, samo godinu dana po nastanku ovog rukopisa. Uz autora, u tekstu se detaljno progovara o rukopisu i njegovom iznimnom značaju za proučavanje nekadašnje svakodnevice, a posebno žetelačkih običaja na zapadnom dijelu otoka Korčule.This text reveals the identity of the hitherto unknown author one of the oldest known ethnographic record from the island of Korčula. The manuscript titled “Narodne pjesme junačke i žetelačke” (Folk Songs of Heroes and Harvesters) dates back to 1892 and is preserved in the Archive of the Ethnology Division at the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Zagreb. Although the author of the manuscript is signed as “Ivan Žuvela, legal scholar,” his precise identification has remained elusive, with incorrect assumptions and even speculation about a possible pseudonym. Through research of available sources and newspaper records, it has now been conclusively determined that the author is indeed Ivan Žuvela from Vela Luka, a member of the Šabo family, and a law student who passed away at the age of 23, just a year after creating this manuscript. In addition to introducing the author, this text provides a detailed exploration of the manuscript and its exceptional significance for studying the everyday life of the past, particularly the harvesting customs on the western part of the island of Korčula

Autophagy in the retinal pigment epithelium: a new vision and future challenges
No full textThe retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is a highly specialised monolayer of polarized, pigmented epithelial cells that resides between the vessels of the choriocapillaris and the neural retina. The RPE is essential for the maintenance and survival of overlying light-sensitive photoreceptors, as it participates in the formation of the outer blood retinal barrier, phagocytosis, degradation of photoreceptor outer segment (POS) tips, maintenance of the retinoid cycle, and protection against light and oxidative stress. Autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved "self-eating" process, designed to maintain cellular homeostasis. The daily autophagy demands in the RPE require precise gene regulation for the digestion and recycling of intracellular and POS components in lysosomes in response to light and stress conditions. In this review, we discuss selective autophagy and focus on the recent advances in our understanding of the mechanism of cell clearance in the RPE for visual function. Understanding how this catabolic process is regulated by both transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms in the RPE will promote the recognition of pathological pathways in genetic disease and shed light on potential therapeutic strategies to treat visual impairments in patients with retinal disorders associated with lysosomal dysfunction
Towards an Augmented Reality Game for Learning about Ivan Vazov's Literary Works

“Ivan Vazov” in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The mural features the renowned Bulgarian author Ivan Vazov in the center, surrounded by characters from his literary works.
By using a head-mounted display in front of the mural, the players would see movement of the characters and will be able to interact with them in a gamified augmented reality environment. The serious game proposed in this paper offers a solution to the engagement of players with literature and textual heritage within a broader cultural context

No full textThe article deals with the biography of Ivan Shusherin, the author of the “Life” of Patriarch Nikon. Based on new archival data, it was established the previously unknown circumstances of Ivan Shusherin’s ten-year stay in exile in Novgorod and his own letters, written in extremely beautiful handwriting are discovered. Analysis of the text of the “Life” allowed the author to clarify the dating of the “Life” and the intent of this work – the most important source on the history of the Russian church in the second half of the 17th century
