    From Libiola’s natural woodwardite to the energy storage systems: a journey through the Layered Doubled Hydroxides (LDHs)

    Layered doubled hydroxides (LDHs) belong to the hydrotalcite supergroup, their crystal structure is composed of brucite-type layers in which a trivalent cation partially substitutes a divalent cation, generating a net positive charge balanced by an anionic species in the interlayer giving the general formula: [M2+ 1-x N3+x (OH)2]x+(Anx/ n)x- * mH2O Where M and N are respectively a divalent and a trivalent cation, A is an anion with n charge, x is the molar ratio N/(M+N) and m is a value between 1 and 4. The interlayer is very flexible and could host different compounds both anions, cations and not charged ones; fourthermore the whide range of possible combination of M,N and A lead to a lot of different applications for those class of compounds. This work reports the results obtained starting from the synthesis of the analogue of the natural woodwardite (AlCu-SO4 LDH and its affinity for rare earths elements. Moreover a number of synthetic LDHs have been properly planned and synthesised for the adsorption of dangerous pollutants such as Cr(VI) and electrochemical purposes, to be appliable as active materials in metal ions batteries

    Baseline of distribution and origin of Rare Earth Elements in marine sediment of the coastal area of the Eastern Gulf of Tigullio (Ligurian Sea, North-West Italy)

    A study on the Rare Earth Element (REE) distribution in the bottom sediments of the Gulf of Tigullio (north-west Italy) was conducted. The results constitute a baseline for this zone of the Ligurian Sea and enabled the obtaining of valuable information on the origin and transport of sediments in the gulf. The distribution of REEs is con- trolled by phosphates, mainly monazite, and is generally homogeneous in the study area, reflecting the homogeneous distribution of the minerals. Some differences in REE and Sc distribution allow us to identify two sub-basins (Entella and Gromolo torrent sub-basins) characterised by slightly different geological frameworks. The “hat-shaped” observed patterns seem to indicate an overprinting of the original REE patterns due to ex- changes between phosphates and seawater. REEs seem to be related with the rocks outcropping in the area, although an indirect effect of anthropic activity could be seen near a fish farm

    Sediment distribution on the continental shelf in relation to stream inputs and contamination: hydrodynamic, chemical, mineralogical, and sedimentological characteristics (Ligurian Sea, Italy)

    River estuaries, continental shelf, and sediment contamination are closely linked from the point of view of sediment transport and diffusion that is governed by different factors such as sea waves and currents, river flows and floods, and sediment characteristics. Taking these factors into consideration, we have examined marine environmental and marine bottom sediments off the mouth of a stream to highlight the main ways of sediment and contaminant transport and diffusion on the continental shelf. For this purpose, we followed a multidisciplinary approach, studying circulation of water masses, hydrological characteristics of water column, distribution and main characteristics of sediment grain size, sediment mineralogical composition, and metal concentrations of bottom sediments. Our results allowed identifying the presence of preferential ways of sediment deposition and areas of sediment spread for the Entella Stream, as well as the origin of some metals

    Effect Of Monomer Content In The Monomer-polymer Ratio On Complete Denture Teeth Displacement

    The purpose of the study was to verify the linear displacement of teeth in maxillary complete dentures influenced by different monomerpolymer ratios - according to the manufacturer's instructions, with 25% excess or 25% less monomer content - in the conventional and microwaved polymerization techniques. Wax base plates and wax planes were made on edentulous maxillary stone casts according to traditional method. The set was assembled in semi-adjustable articulator with a lower toothed stone cast as guide to mounting of the maxillary artificial teeth. Impressions were taken from this tooth arrangement with silicone and the mold was used to standardize the mounting of the teeth of all dentures. Referential points were made on the artificial teeth for linear measurements with optical microscope before processing of the dentures and after deflasking. Denture bases were conventionally packed with acrylic resin according to the monomer-polymer ratio protocol. Tooth displacement data were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey test (α=0.05). There were no statistically significant differences (p>0.05) between the group with monomer content recommended by the manufacturer and groups with 25% more and 25% less monomer, in both conventional and microwaved polymerizations.     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
