Assessment of radon knowledge in neapolitan area
Indoor radon exposure is the second most important risk factor for lung cancer incidence on human. The purpose of this study was to assess the status of the knowledge of radon gas in the general population and high school students, in the metropolitan area of Naples. A survey was planned in order to obtain data on both public knowledge of radon gas and its health effects. The results on 6705 collected questionnaires showed that a similar percentage of respondents as¬ serted to know radon gas, 31% and 38% in general and student population, respectively. This study demonstrate that actual educational programs have to be enhanced in order to provide the spread of the radon knowledge and the awareness of the exposure risk
Measurement-Domain Specific Language for magnetic test specifications at CERN
A Measurement-Domain Specific Language (MDSL) for test procedure definition, measurement tasks synchronization, and instrument configuration is proposed. MDSL is a formal language specially designed for a specific domain of measurement and test, aimed at specifying complete, easy-to-understand, -reuse, and -maintain applications efficiently and quickly. Owing to MDSL constructs capability of abstracting key concepts of the domain, the test engineer can write more concise and higher level programs in shorter time without being a skilled programmer. The MDSL has been applied to the specifications of superconducting magnet tests of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. © 2009 IEEE
Differential Acquisition of m-Sequences using Recursive Soft Sequential Estimation
In this contribution a novel sequential estimation method is proposed for the acquisition of -sequences. This sequential estimation method exploits the principle of iterative soft-in-soft-out (SISO) decoding for enhancing the acquisition performance, and that of differential pre-processing for the sake of achieving an enhanced acquisition performance, when communicating over various communication environments. Hence the advocated acquisition arrangement is referred to as the Differential Recursive Soft Sequential Estimation (DRSSE) acquisition scheme. The DRSSE acquisition scheme exhibits a low complexity, which is similar to that of an -sequence generator, while achieving an acquisition time that is linearly dependent on the number of stages in the -sequence generator. A low acquisition time is achieved with the advent of the property that the proposed DRSSE scheme is capable of determining the real-time reliabilities associated with the decision concerning a set of, say , consecutive chips. This set of consecutive chips constitutes the sufficient initial condition for enabling the local -sequence generator to produce a synchronized local despreading -sequence replica. Owing to these attractive characteristics, the DRSSE acquisition scheme constitutes a promising initial synchronization scheme for acquisition of long -sequences, when communicating over various propagation environments
∑_(l+m=k,l,m≥0) ((α+l-1)¦l) ((β+m-1)¦m)=((α+β+k-1)¦k) and its application to negative binomial distribution
We prove here the following equation: ∑_(l+m=k,l,m≥0) ((α+l-1)¦l) ((β+m-1)¦m)=((α+β+k-1)¦k) and give its application to prove the reproductive property of the negative binomial distribution.
These finite sum equation involving binomial coefficients and proof of the reproductive property are not known as far as the author knows.論文(Article)departmental bulletin pape

Radiation dose estimates in DBT compared with FFDM: A brief analysis
Breast cancer is reported as the second most common cancer in the world. The estimate for 2018 is 59 700 new cases of breast cancer (Bray F. et al., Cancer. J. Clin., 68 (2018) 394). The distribution of the incidence of breast cancer is high especially in industrialized countries, followed by developing countries. The development of effective screening programs allows to lead the survival to 84% in developed countries. Early diagnosis, in the context of these programs, is carried out using X-rays and the equipment used for this purpose is constantly updated to improve the detection capability for the same dose delivered. Nowadays, next to full-field digital mammography (FFDM), 3D technology is available on modern mammography devices, such as Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT). Some studies show that the use of DBT, combined with FFDM, or as a stand-alone technology, allows for a better diagnostic performance than FFDM alone (Skaane P. et al., Radiology, 267 (2013) 47; Ciatto S. et al., Lancet Oncol., 14 (2013) 583). In addition to the diagnostic capacity, of course, the dose to the population participating in the screening programs must also be investigated. Considering that the different manufacturers of digital mammography systems use different technologies to reconstruct pseudo-3D images, it is essential to check the radiation dose of various equipment available in healthcare facilities. The purpose of this work is to verify the radiation dose for a specific mammography unit used in both FFDM and DBT procedures
Study of nuclear structure of 13C and 20Ne by low energy nuclear reactions
We report some recent experimental results on the spectroscopy of 13C and 20Ne nuclei by means of low energy nuclear reactions carried out with high resolution electrostatic accelerators. In the case of 13C we investigated the possible existence of a-cluster states above the a emission threshold by means of low energy elastic resonant scattering α+9Be in direct kinematics. Excitation functions show the presence of various resonances that have been reproduced by R-matrix fit. We studied also the structure of 20Ne by means of the 19F(p,α0) reaction at sub-barrier energies. The spectroscopy of 20Ne excited states in the region Ex 13.5-14.0 MeV can be probed by analyzing experimental angular distributions and excitation functions. This reaction plays an important role also in the CNOF cycle and is an important ingredient to describe hydrogen-induced destruction of fluorine in massive stars. For this reason we investigated the trend of S-factor, that has been compared with results previously reported in the literature. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Lt
Informetrics on M. N. Srinivas
M. N. Srinivas, the well known sociologist is widely recognised as architect of modern Indian sociology and social anthropology. His publications have been analysed by year, domain, authorship pattern, channels of communication used. Keywords, etc. The results indicate that the papers published by him are of a nature that qualify him to be a 'role model' for the younger generations to emulate.
By the end of 1995, Srinivas had to his credit 144 papers which, included 33 broad papers in sociology and anthropology; 18 papers in social change; 28 papers in village studies; 12 papers on religion; 17 papers on caste and 36 papers of general popular interest. The periods 1958-61 and 1974-77, when Srinivas was 38-41 and 58-61 years old. were his most productive periods with highest publication activity
The stability of IQ in people with low intellectual ability: an analysis of the literature
A meta-analysis of the stability of low IQ (IQ 80) was performed on IQ tests that have been
commonly used—tests that were derived by D. Wechsler (1949, 1955, 1974, 1981, 1991, 1997)
and those based on the Binet scales (L. M. Terman, 1960; L. M. Terman & Merrill, 1972). Weighted-
mean stability coefficients of .77 and .78 were found for Verbal IQ (V IQ) and Performance IQ
(P IQ) on the Wechsler tests and .82 for Full-Scale IQ (FS IQ) on both Wechsler and Binet tests,
for a mean test–retest interval of 2.8 years. Although the majority of FS IQs changed by less than
6 points, 14% changed by 10 points or more. The author suggests that the results of IQ assessment
should be treated with more caution than previously thought
