Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

No full textEn sabots d’André Baillon (1922) a longtemps été considéré comme un récit régionaliste, voué à une description de la campagne flamande où le narrateur, tout comme l’auteur dont il porte le nom, a vécu quelque temps en aviculteur. C’est en réalité un texte bien plus complexe, où la réflexion métanarrative joue un rôle fondamental. Il s’agit moins d’une longue description que du récit d’une quête, dont l’objet est la « simplicité » (les sabots mis en avant dans le titre en sont l’emblème). Cette simplicité se décline d’abord au niveau vestimentaire, mais puis surtout attitudinal, moral, spirituel, et enfin communicatif, pour ne pas dire stylistique
Risk adjusted mortality after hip replacement surgery: A retrospective study
Full text linkIntroduction. Hip replacement (HR) operations are increasing. Short term mortality is an indicator of quality; few studies include risk adjustment models to predict HR outcomes. We evaluated in-hospital and 30-day mortality in hospitalized patients for HR and compared the performance of two risk adjustment algorithms. Materials and methods. A retrospective cohort study on hospital discharge records of patients undergoing HR from 2000 to 2005 in Tuscany Region, Italy, applied All-Patient Refined Diagnosis Related Groups (APR-DRG) and Elixhauser Index (EI) risk adjustment models to predict outcomes. Logistic regression was used to analyse the performance of the two models; C statistic (C) was used to define their discriminating ability. Results. 25 850 hospital discharge records were studied. In-hospital and 30-day crude mortality were 1.3% and 3%, respectively. Female gender was a significant (p < 0.001) protective factor under both models and had the following Odds Ratios (OR): 0.64 for in-hospital and 0.51 for 30-day mortality using APR-DRG and 0.55 and 0.48, respectively, with EI. Among EI comorbidities, heart failure and liver disease were associated with in-hospital (OR 9.29 and 5.60; p < 0.001) and 30-day (OR 6.36 and 3.26; p < 0.001) mortality. Increasing age and APR-DRG risk class were predictive of all the outcomes. Discriminating ability for in-hospital and 30-day mortality was reasonable with EI (C 0.79 and 0.68) and good with APR-DRG (C 0.86 and 0.82). Conclusions. Our study found that gender, age, EI comorbidities and APR-DRG risk of death are predictive factors of in-hospital and 30-day mortality outcomes in patients undergoing HR. At least one risk adjustment algorithm should always be implemented in patient management

No full textNel caso di pièces Rivoluzionarie molto legate all’attualità, costumi e accessori costituiscono l’oggetto di una (ri)semantizzazione importante e finalizzata alla dimostrazione concreta di un avvenuto rivolgimento che l’utopia rivoluzionaria presenta come duraturo nel tempo, ben ancorato nel presente, e talvolta pure proiettato nel futuro. L’esigenza di rappresentare scenicamente la sostituzione di un sistema di valori anacronistico e deleterio giustifica il fatto che durante il Terrore, quando le sale si fanno espressione di un orientamento politico ben preciso, a teatro (ma non esclusivamente) l’abito non solo faccia il monaco ma, ancor più volentieri, lo disfi, come mostrato relativamente all'utilizzo dei costumi e degli accessori in alcune pièces percepite come "politiche" durante gli anni 1793-94
