The Interplay of Art, Occultism and Emancipation. Subversive Female Perspectives in Tyra Kleen’s Life and Work at the Turn of the Twentieth Century

    No full text
In the early 1900s, the Swedish noblewoman Tyra Kleen (1874–1951) was a highly productive artist, author, suffragette and occult seeker. Although Kleen’s esoteric and feminist interests have to a limited extent been considered in previous research, these aspects have not received sufficient attention, either in relation to her art/writing or as relevant interests in their own right. Research on Tyra Kleen, in general, is scarce, especially on her identity beyond an artist and author. Therefore, this study focuses on the interplay between Kleen’s engagement in the women’s suffrage movement and occultism, and her creative output around 1900. By examining how these overlapping spheres of interest informed one another, this study aims to situate and comprehend Kleen more fully within her contemporary cultural, social and political context. It highlights the spiritual, political and social conflation of Kleen’s diverse emancipatory roles, and examines, among other factors, the importance of her companionship with Ellen Key in this context.ei tietoa saavutettavuudest

The main goal of this study is to determine and provide an explanation for (1) how the appeal of Selebgram affects (2) consumer interest in purchasing Secondate items. With a quantitative method, the author employs a sort of explanatory study. In this study, there are two independent variables: consumer purchase interest and the attractiveness of celebgrams. Researchers used Titan Tyra @secondatebeauty's Instagram followers as their demographic criterion for this study's Effect of Celebgram Attraction on Consumer Purchase Interest for Secondate goods. Purposive sampling was used to choose the sample of 100 participants for this study, and the data was collected online. Participants were chosen at random from a population-representative sample of 100. Simple linear regression with SPSS 20 version was employed for the data analysis in this study. A straightforward linear regression study revealed that the program's appeal significantly affects consumer interest in making a purchase. Therefore, based on these findings, experts advise producers to consider a number of crucial factors that can increase sales when designing or producing a product. Of course, she must have the characteristics of a beauty critic who has distinctive charm and charisma, can be trusted, and can be modified to the needs of customers so that the product's aims can be expressed appropriately, just like a celebgram

Environmental change in the Kitikmeot Region of western Nunavut and Ulukhaktok region of eastern Northwest Territories. Polar Knowledge: Aqhaliat Report - Volume 4

There are many impacts observed across the Canadian North because of changing environmental conditions. Increasing heat in the atmosphere caused by human pollution is causing the Arctic to warm up faster then anywhere else on Earth, and more frequent and intense weather has been occurring across the North. More unpredictable weather, tundra fires, forceful winds and storminess is expected to occur, with important impacts on northern communities. Air temperature controls all aspects of Arctic life, including which animals and plants can survive, when rivers and oceans freeze and break up, and the thickness of sea ice and permafrost. Canadian Arctic communities are warming the most in winter. Rainfall changes affect caribou and muskoxen, as they must break ice to get to their food. The snow season is shorter. Permafrost is warming and thawing. Arctic plants are changing in complex ways, in some areas climate change is causing them to grow more, shrubs becoming denser, and more grasses are present. Eventually, the tree line will move Northward. Ocean water is changing with increasing freshwater and sediments from melt, and this affects ocean life from microscopic species to fish and marine mammals. Global sea level rise will be less significant in the Canadian Arctic compered to low-laying islands elsewhere in the world. Arctic Sea Ice is melting, and this affects the safety of ice travel

Laughing at Trans Women: A Theory of Transmisogyny (Author Preprint)

    No full text
This essay meditates on the short film American Reflexxx and the violent laughter directed at a non-trans woman in public space when she was assumed to be trans. Drawing from work on the ideological and institutional dimensions of transphobia by Talia Bettcher and Viviane Namaste, alongside Sara Ahmed's writing on the cultural politics of disgust, I reverse engineer this specific instance of laughter into a meditation on the social meaning of transphobic laughter in public space. I then look at racialized transphobic laughter directed against Tyra Hunter and Miriam Rivera to emphasize transmisogynist laughter as a denial of contact, intimacy, and care. Building on Kate Manne's work on misogyny, I conclude that a key aspect of transmisogyny is the use of transfeminine people as a source of dehumanized, disavowed, and disposable care and intimacy. Laughter and accompanying violence against trans women serves to reinforce this dynamic

In this creative non-fiction narrative, the author uses her experiences and observations as a High Peaks Summit Steward in New York State's Adirondack Mountains to contemplate people's varying relationships with mountain landscapes. After discussing the rising popularity and subsequent environmental impacts of "peak-bagging," she describes the emergence of a new ethic of stewardship, encouraging appreciation for and proper management of fragile alpine ecosystems.  Meanwhile, she illustrates how her own perceptions and understandings of the Adirondack wilderness evolves through the course of long, frequently uncomfortable, and just as frequently awe-inspiring months working on the mountaintops

Books beware : hypertext fiction is taking over. Or is it? : an honors thesis (HONRS 499)

    No full text
The purpose of this thesis is to determine the validity of the arguments set forth by the proponents of hypertext fiction that indicate that we are in the late age of print and that the new form of writing, hyper textual fiction, will soon replace the printed text. The beginning of the thesis deals with the ideas behind hypertext fiction by determining, through the use of Lloyd Bitzer's notion of the Rhetorical Situation, the situation, audience, and constraints. This process aids in determining the likelihood that the hypertext fiction will prosper. The final section focuses on a particular piece of hypertext fiction, Michael Joyce's Afternoon, a story, and, through the application of narrative criticism, determines what the author" worldviews are and whether or not the story form will be accepted within our culture.Thesis (B.?)Honors Colleg
