Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Thousands of Haitian citizens have settled in Quebec after the occurrence of the earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010. Many of them have been sponsored in Quebec by their families. Immigration to Canada from Haiti began during the late 1950s focusing more particularly in Montreal. The political, social and economic context in Haiti is often cited in the literature to explain the departure of Haitians and their installation in Quebec where the 'Haitian community' is estimated at about 120,000 people. We conducted an exploratory qualitative research to better understand the situation of Haitian newcomers established in Montreal following the earthquake. To do this, we inspired by notions of experience (Dubet, 1994) and representation (Hall, 1997). Between November 2012 and January 2013, we carried out nine interviews with seven women and two men aged from 23 to 60 years.
The results suggest that participants place great importance to life in the country of origin prior to migration in the development of their experiences. Experience current "here" is developed in comparison to experience past 'out there '. Participants also emphasized the importance of the family network when the migration process, both in the processes of emigration and in the accompaniment to the host country. Painful emotions were expressed against the separation family, lived as one of the consequences of the migration. Participants began efforts to integrate employment but they were faced with difficulties that most of them describe as "structural" and that some "personal". Finally, the results indicate that participants are carriers of an imaginary migration which is expressed by aspirations and expectations compared to the host society and which reflects a tension between these aspirations and experiences
In March 2020, WHO declares a global SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Quickly, the Quebec government declared a state of health emergency while the metropolis of the province, Montreal, was afflicted with the highest prevalence of the virus during the first wave. Vulnerability and previously documented inequities are growing among migrant populations and more specifically for those living without medical insurance. According to the most recent data, 50,000 to 70,000 people live without medical coverage in Quebec. Already before the pandemic, uninsured migrants faced cultural, linguistic and economic barriers when they entered the public health network. This master's thesis aims to document the health and social challenges that they are facing in the context of COVID-19, in Quebec Province, specifically in Montreal. A thematic analysis of the semi-structured interviews conducted with uninsured migrants (n = 19) is supported by the social determinants of health framework (Gautier et al., 2020). Three emerging themes of the analysis will be presented: Precarious living and working conditions: Four emerging themes of the analysis will be presented: Perceptions and expectations in relation to policies (1), precarious living and working conditions: the decisive social position before and during the pandemic (2), adaptation strategies (and its limits) to prevent threats to health (3) Intractable health structures in the COVID-19 pandemic (or how to accentuate the barriers to access to care?) (4). The results of this research project shed light on the difficulties and challenges, potentially producing ISS, that uninsured migrants said they faced during the first waves of the pandemic. Recommendations are addressed to decision-makers and health institutions in order to promote the inclusion of uninsured migrants in Quebec. These relate to policies and programs to improve their accessibility to health care and social programs in times of pandemic and even beyond

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Hurricane Maria struck Dominica in September 2017, causing colossal damage to the small island developing state (SIDS), located between Martinique and Guadeloupe. Several thousand people were reportedly displaced during this extreme tropical weather event (ETWE). Their ability to cope with it considers various vulnerability factors (socioeconomic resources, quality of infrastructure, etc.).
A series of interviews were conducted on site in 2019 and 2020, as part of the CliMiHealth project, with people who were displaced by the hurricane. This project aims to better understand their migration and health experiences in the context of climate change in the Caribbean. Our exploratory study focuses on the specificities of climate-related migration in a Caribbean island context during a hurricane, considering the vulnerability of displaced persons to this type of event.
The analyses of qualitative data suggest that migration in the context of a hurricane is marked by a multi-stage trajectory, close to the place of departure. We believe that this displacement is more akin to mobility than to migration, the multiplicity of which would depend on the opportunities presented to people through their social network. This factor would play a crucial role in reducing their vulnerability.
In addition, perceptions of climate change would vary according to people's level of education. The higher the level of education, the more they would agree with the scientific discourse on climate change. The intensity of the hurricane seems to have left its mark on people, against which they feel powerless. The temporality of the needs expressed would also be linked to the level of education, and raises tensions regarding institutional support during the hurricane. We encourage a greater institutional presence with the most vulnerable populations, especially as the hurricane season approaches
