Textual Illustration Of Images In Claudio Cambon’s Shipbreak

    No full text
In November of 1997, the documentary photographer and author, Claudio Cambon, boards the U.S. merchant marine vessel, the SS Minole, at an old, dilapidated dock in Violet, Louisiana just south of New Orleans. After thirty-seven years of service logging millions of nautical miles, the Minole is about to depart on its last voyage. Still in spectacular shape, the Minole has, in the wake of the catastrophic Exxon Valdez oil spill, been condemned to an early death by legislation that banned single..

Affective Connections to Nature in the Poetry of William Blake and Claudio Rodríguez

    No full text
Producción CientíficaThe following paper focuses on the works of English poet, painter, and engraver William Blake and the poetry of Spanish author Claudio Rodríguez and their affective connections to nature. The two authors, whose contribution to literature has been highly recognized by critics, shared an abiding interest in nature and examining their verses and opinions will help us to observe the coincidences between them. From an ecocritical perspective, mainly based on the idea of sense of place, we will demonstrate that they shared the same emotional and sentimental concept of nature

“Dialogue between Translators and Authors. The Example of Claudio Magris”

    No full text
The paper focuses on the forms of cooperation between authors and their translator(s) in all cases in which the two operate simultaneously. This issue is explored on the example of the Trieste-born author Claudio Magris, who cultivates a very close relationship with most of his translators. Writing and translation have been coexisting in this author throughout his career and have resulted in the heightened sensitivity of Magris the author with regards to translation, as the first part of the analysis shows. The second part describes the dialogue between Magris and the translators of his works, and ends with the more general question of the significance and role of such a form of exchange

An algorithm for the microaggregation problem using column generation

    No full text
The field of statistical disclosure control aims to reduce the risk of re-identifying an individual from disseminated data, a major concern among national statistical agencies. Operations Research (OR) techniques have been widely used in the past for protecting tabular data, but not microdata (i.e., files of individuals and attributes). Few papers apply OR techniques to the microaggregation problem, which is considered one of the best methods for microdata protection and is known to be NP-hard. The new heuristic approach is based on a column generation scheme and, unlike previous (primal) heuristics for microaggregation, it also provides a lower bound on the optimal microaggregation. Using real data that is typically used in the literature, our computational results show, first, that solutions with small gaps are often achieved and, second, that dramatic improvements are obtained relative to the literature’s most popular heuristics.Author Enric Spagnolo-Arrizabalaga was supported by the ERASMUS+ Traineeship Program with a visiting period at CNR-IASI.
