This paper presents an environmental diagnosis based on public complaints on environmental issues submitted to the Environmental Department of the Aveiro City Council, Portugal, between 2000 and 2005. It discusses the potential influences of these in local environmental planning and governance. The paper has been organised into five sections. The first of these introduces the study. The second section focuses on the conceptual approaches relating to environmental grassroots movements, the main actors involved in these movements and the role played by local government. It also contains a brief review of the most recent urban environmental quality challenges in the European context together with a description of the main features of the associated political and legal framework in Portugal. The third section describes the case study and the methodology used. The results of the empirical study are detailed in the fourth section. The final section critically analyses these results with emphases on the temporal evolution of the submission of complaints, the actors involved, the local environmental problems and their associated spatial pattern as well as the responses given by the City Council. This information may then be used to provide a useful indicator for the perception of environmental quality as well as a credible instrument for the visualisation and evaluation of local performance in terms of environmental planning and management.AlBan Programme - n. Title: Spectroscopic diagnosis of B[e] stars Author: Nela Dvořáková Department: Astronomical Institute of Charles University Supervisor: doc. Mgr. Daniela Korčáková, Ph.D. The B[e] stars is a common designation for a diverse group of stars of different types and evolutionary stages exhibiting forbidden emission lines and a strong infrared excess. We focus on the most mysterious group, called the FS CMa stars. These stars have the potential to help us understand the formation of strong magnetic fields in stars. The most recent and the most likely scenario explaining the nature of at least some of the FS CMa stars has to do with the chaotic process of stellar mergers. This process itself is not yet well known, however, the FS CMa group potentially contain a whole evolutionary sequence of mergers. Apart from the B[e] features or the multiperiodic behaviour, observed in spectroscopy as well as photometry, one needs to account for the strong magnetic field found in the FS CMa star IRAS 17449+2320 (Korčáková et al., 2022). This is what led to the first magneto-hydrodynamic simulations of the matter accretion onto a post-merger (Moranchel-Basurto et al., 2023, 2024). One of the consequences of such a magnetic field could be the presence of a corona-like region which may be confirmed by the...Název: Spektrální diagnostika B[e] hvězd Autor: Nela Dvořáková Oddělení: Astronomický Ústav Karlovy University Vedoucí práce: doc. Mgr. Přítomnost oblasti podobné...Astronomický ústav UKAstronomical Institute of Charles UniversityFaculty of Mathematics and PhysicsMatematicko-fyzikální fakult

TITLE: Modulatory effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on words and non-words reading task AUTHOR(S): Margherita Forgioneb, Patrizio Tressoldi b, Daniela Mapelli b, Paulo Sergio Boggio a a Centro de Ciências Biológicas e da Saúde, Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, Sao Paulo b Dipartimento di Psicologia Generale, Università degli Studi di Padova, Italia INTRODUCTION: In recent past tDCS has gained much attention for rehabilitation purposes. Moreover, few studies have been conducted to investigate its efficacy on reading process. The aim of these studies was to investigate the role of left and right posterior temporal cortex in words and non-words reading process, through tDCS. We focused on the online task to see if it can influence the subjects’ performance. We hypothesized that the anodal stimulation would facilitate the task execution compared to sham and cathodal, in terms of reaction times and accuracy. METHOD: Twenty good readers were tested in 3 sessions (sham, anodal, cathodal), with different online task (text reading or music listening). tDCS was applied bilaterally over posterior temporal lobe, with a current of 1,5 mA, lasting for 20 minutes. Participants had to read aloud words or non-words, before and after stimulation. We recorded reaction times and accuracy for words and non-words, before and after stimulation. RESULTS: Regarding reaction times, we found significant effect of cathodal tDCS in short words reading task. Similarly, we also found an improvement in reading accuracy for non-words after tDCS. The online task doesn’t seem to affect the performance. CONCLUSIONS: We found a modulatory effect of cathodal tDCS in words reading task, suggesting a compensatory mechanisms of the right hemisphere. To verify this hypothesis, we are investigating different montages, involving left or right hemisphere. Further studies are necessary to understand the modulation effects of this technique, in addition with other methodologies, such as eye tracker, and with clinical sample, in particular dyslexics

Safety behaviors, compulsive behaviors, and therapist extensiveness as predictors of outcome in behavior for youth OCD

    No full text
The efficacy of behavior therapy in treating adult OCD is well-documented and early trials in youth populations are encouraging (March et al., 1994; Piacentini et al., 2002; POTS Team, 2004), however, residual symptoms often persist. The study of process variables can provide suggestions for improving the development, delivery, and outcomes of psychological therapies (Kazdin & Nock, 2003). One potentially important variant in exposure procedures identified by the literature has been the use of safety behaviors. However, it has been difficult to draw conclusions regarding the effect of safety behaviors on OCD treatment because the term has been interpreted broadly across studies and results have been mixed. The current study uses observational coding of existing data to assess three predictors of outcome within two early exposure sessions and two late exposure sessions of a manualized exposure and response prevention program. Participants include 43 youth (ages 8 – 17 years) diagnosed with a principal OCD diagnosis who received a 12-week exposure and response prevention program. Predictors assessed via observational coding include safety behaviors (avoidance and escape), compulsive behaviors, and therapist extensiveness (therapist ability to engage the client in difficult exposures). Outcome was measured by symptom report (CY-BOCS) at midtreatment and post-treatment. It was hypothesized that higher average occurrence of safety and compulsive behaviors during exposure tasks would predict higher OCD symptoms while lower ratings of therapist extensiveness would predict higher OCD symptoms at mid-treatment and post-treatment. Interaction effects were also investigated. Multiple regression analyses demonstrated a significant relationship between safety behaviors exhibited during the early exposure phase and OCD symptoms at mid-treatment in the expected direction, B = 0.31, t = 2.09, p<.05, R2=.25. However, safety behavior in the late phase was not related to OCD symptoms at post-treatment nor was safety behavior throughout treatment significantly related to OCD symptoms at posttreatment. Significant findings involving compulsive behaviors, therapist extensiveness, and interaction effects did not emerge. Methodological limitations, such as restricted range of the independent variables and the need for a more frequently administered dependent variable, and recommendations for future studies are discussed.Psy.DIncludes bibliographical referencesby Daniela Colognor
