Electrochemical oxidation of oxalic acid and hydrazinium nitrate on platinum in nitric acid media
Several studies in the literature have investigated the electrochemical effects of oxalic acid and hydrazine on various materials in neutral (pH buffered to 7), basic or weakly acidic media (pH 6). The present work proposes electrochemical techniques that allow for the study of the electrochemical behavior, on a Pt electrode, of oxalic acid and hydrazinium nitrate to better understand their oxidation mechanisms in a nitric acid medium at a pH below 1; in addition, some experiments were carried out to define an electrochemical method that would allow for the simultaneous detection of these species when present within process effluent in very acidic solutions. Some physical data regarding oxalic acid and hydrazinium nitrate were also determined: anodic oxidation of hydrazinium nitrate and oxalic acid were observed at 0.2 V and 0.7 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), respectively. The diffusion coefficients of hydrazinium nitrate and oxalic acid were found to be 5.2 × 10−6 and 2.9 × 10−7 cm2 s−1, respectively. An experimental design approach demonstrated the influence of nitric acid concentrations on the diffusion coefficients of these species

Radovan Karadžić ::architect of the Bosnian genocide /
Radovan Karadžić, leader of the Bosnian Serb nationalists during the Bosnian War (1992-5), stands accused of genocide and other crimes of war before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague. This book traces the origins of the extreme violence of the war to the utopian national aspirations of the Serb Democratic Party and Karadžić's personal transformation from an unremarkable family man to the powerful leader of the Bosnian Serb nationalists. Based on previously unused documents from the tribunal's archives and many hours of Karadžić's cross-examination at his trial, the author shows why and how the Bosnian Serb leader planned and directed the worst atrocities in Europe since the Second World War. This book provocatively argues that postcommunist democracy was a primary enabler of mass atrocities because it provided the means to mobilize large numbers of Bosnian Serbs for the campaign to eliminate non-Serbs from conquered land

Origins of Education in Great Moravia and its Subsequent Manifestations
Title: The Origins of Education in Great Moravia and its Subsequent Manifestations Author: Mgr. Radovan Vlha Department: Czech Language Department Supervisor: prof. PhDr. Radoslava Kvapilová Brabcová, CSc. Abstract The thesis focuses on the origins and manifestations of the education on the territory of Great Moravia. The main research method is the analysis of historical source texts, archaeological artefacts and analogical comparison with the situation in 9th century Europe. The growth of education in Great Moravia commenced with the arrival of Constantine and Methodius mission, which proceed from the Byzantine conception of education. The mission picked up the threads of Bavarian missionaries' work, which is proved by the widely professed Christianity prior to the year 863. Initially, the education centres of western missionaries were used with new premises being built later; Sady near Uherske Hradiste being considered the most important. Scholars with aristocratic backgrounds were educated in these centres. The curriculum consisted predominantly from Old Church Slavonic, prayers, theology and music, sometimes accompanied with Latin. The development of the craft industry requisite for the building of churches, decorating jewellery with Christian motives and production of books was directly connected to..
Radovan Lukavský and the legacy of K. S. Stanislavsky
Radovan Lukavský (1919–2008) was an important representative of modern Czech acting, a long-time member of the National Theatre drama ensemble in Prague, and a teacher at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and the Prague Conservatory. As an educator, he steadfastly upheld the legacy of Stanislavsky and made considerable efforts to defend the ideas of the great theatre director against the vulgarisation of the Czech theatre and the theatre faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in the early 1950s, when there was a clash between socialist-realist ideologisation and the creative interpretation of Stanislavsky's pedagogical methods. The author examines the approach of Lukavský (both as an actor and a pedagogue) to the Stanislavsky method as described in Lukavský's professional publications and articles
Synthesis and study of hyaluronic acid derivatives modified on carboxyl
Charles University Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry Author: Gabriela Volfová Supervisors: Mgr. Radovan Bu a, Ph.D. doc. PharmDr. Jaroslav Roh, Ph.D. Title: Synthesis and study of hyaluronic acid derivatives modified on carboxyl Abstract: Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring linear polysaccharide. Due to its biocompatibility and non-immunogenicity, HA and its derivatives are widely used in various biological and medical applications. The e cacy of each formulation is strongly related to the molecular weight (MW) of the HA used. Unfortunately, various factors can a ect the MW during the manufacturing process. Elevated tem- perature required during the sterilization process is one significant example, which can lead to a reduction in molecular weight and result in a loss of some desired properties of the final product. This work focuses on the synthesis of HA amides formed on its free carboxyl group and subsequently studying the e ect of this modifi- cation on the degradation rate at elevated temperature. Three final compounds were prepared by reacting HA with various amines using 4-(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2- yl)-4-methylmorpholinium chloride (DMTMM), all of which underwent degradation noticeably faster than native HA
