    Niche tourism destinations’ online reputation management and competitiveness in big data era: evidence from three Italian cases

    This research investigates the importance for niche tourism destinations of investing in big data analytics (BDA) to improve their online reputation management (ORM) and increase their competitiveness. Specifically, it explores how BDA may allow niche tourism destination managers to better monitor their reputation and, in turn, increase the capability of such destinations to attract new tourists. BDA can in fact allow niche tourism destination managers to collect, store and analyze online tourists’ data; thus, BDA may be useful in preventing online reputational damage. Consequently, such systems may increase the competitiveness of niche tourism destinations. In order to explore the aforementioned phenomenon, a multiple case studies approach has been selected. A framework observing how BDA can improve ORM and competitiveness was then developed. Implications for practitioners (i.e. niche tourism destination managers) are also presented

    University-business R&D collaborations and innovation in light of Artificial Intelligence: a new AI-based open innovation paradigm

    This study investigates the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies on university- business (UB) R&D collaborations. Digital technologies, including AI, are widely regard- ed as key factors fostering Open Innovation collaborations. However, contrary to common understanding, their effects on collaborations remain controversial. According to authors, AI technologies might provide limited advantages to firms, and they can even hamper the creativity process. To test our hypotheses, we assume that Artificial Intelligence in- teracts with individual digital skills, acting as moderators of collaboration between part- ners. Considering the complexity of open innovation collaborations, we also hypothesize that relationships between constructs are U-shaped (non-linear or curvilinear). Hypotheses were tested using a mixed methodology on a large-scale dataset related to firms in the European Union. Our findings confirm that UB collaborations positively impact innova- tion effectiveness. At the same time, evidence shows that digital skills and AI technologies might alter creativity and engagement dynamics in a non-linear fashion.     The main aim of this study is to investigate to what extent equity crowdfunding could enable firms to outsource research and development activities. Likewise, the present study aims at analysing the relationship between desorptive capacity (DCAP) and equity crowdfunding performance. We also aim at studying the mediation role of ICT firm's capabilities, connective capacity and minor equity ownership. In this regard, this study intends to pioneer into connecting the knowledge management theory with the crowdfunding studies. A sample of 180 projects based on the top ten European equity crowdfunding platforms has been used. Findings indicate that desorptive capacity enables companies in developing external knowledge retention and expoitation which, in turn, enhance equity crowdfunding performance

    Knowledge management and open innovation in agri-food crowdfunding

    Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between knowledge management capabilities and successful open innovation within agri-food businesses. This particular piece of research focuses on agri-food businesses which utilize crowdfunding platforms. Design/methodology/approach: The research adopts a survey-based methodology, which is useful in enhancing the generalization of results. The final sample includes 80 cases for the analysis. The model and the hypotheses were tested through a hierarchical regression model. Findings: This research assesses the importance of knowledge management capabilities for successful open innovation in crowdfunding for agri-food businesses. In particular, it emerged that IT-based knowledge exploitation capabilities are enablers of open innovation strategies. Additionally, it emerged that knowledge exploration capabilities can positively mediate the relationship between IT-based knowledge exploitation capabilities and open innovation in the context of agri-food businesses. Originality/value: To the authors’ best knowledge, few researchers have explored this topic and, as such, there is a need to better conceptualize this intriguing phenomenon and to provide empirical evidence to support it

    Over the past two decades, sustainability-related disclosures have gained increasing importance in the cultural and creative sectors. However, while there is a relative abundance of reflection on independent standards and models, there is still a scarcity of papers investigating the use of GRI, , or EFRAG in CCISs. Hence, this paper aims to address this research gap by examining the state of the arts of sustainability reporting on cultural and creative organizations in Italy to understand how we can implement better sustainability reporting standards and practices for CCISs. The authors conduct a preliminary qualitative investigation of selected case studies of sustainability reports for Italian cultural organizations. These initial results could be instrumental in advancing the theoretical discussion on sustainability reporting for the cultural and creative sector and potentially lobbying for the development of sector-specific GRI standards related to cultural and creative domains

    The role of crowdfunding in endorsing responsible open innovation for shared value co-creation: a systematic literature review

    The paper aims to investigate the intersection between crowdfunding open-innovation and responsible innovation and identify the emerging trends and gaps of research and new paths for crowdfunding research in the future. Also, this paper proposes a conceptual framework and propositions. The paper is structured in line with systematic literature reviews and guidelines. After reading all the titles, keywords and abstracts, 172 papers focused on open innovation and responsible innovation were selected for this research. Finally, 27 papers that are based on dimensions related to responsible open innovation were selected for the study. Due to its multidisciplinary nature, the scientific literature on the role of crowdfunding in endorsing responsible open innovation for shared value co-creation appears fragmented and redundant. Several emerging trends and gaps of research and new paths for crowdfunding research in the future arise with regard to research methodology and theoretical perspective.     The automotive industry is currently experiencing a profound transformation driven by digital servitisation (DS) and a transition towards sustainability, necessitating substantial alterations in traditional business models (BMs). The increasing emphasis on service provision within the contemporary economic landscape underscores the critical role of digital technologies in expediting this transition, particularly within the automotive sector. Industry participants strategically adapt their service portfolios to sustain and enhance their competitive advantage. This article identifies a notable gap in the existing literature regarding the limited exploration of business model innovation (BMI) among automotive dealers, while the predominant focus of prior research has been on car manufacturers and supply chains. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the impact of digital servitisation on business model innovation within the automotive industry, with a specific focus on the empirical perspective of car dealerships, as they shift their emphasis from traditional product offerings to enhanced service provision. Through a rigorous empirical research design that incorporates case study analysis and in-depth interviews, this study provides novel insights into the role of digital technologies in facilitating business model innovation in the automotive distribution sector
