Na závěr této části se autor věnuje otázce, zda pravidla profesní etiky zavazují advokáty i...Professional Ethics of Attorneys in the Czech Republic with a Focus on the Promotion of Attorneys In this Master's degree thesis, the author deals with the professional ethics of attorneys with a focus on possibilities of their personal promotion. 1 Active communication of the courts in the field of presentation their decisions in relation to their media coverage Abstract The thesis deals with the impact of communication activities of courts on media coverage of their decisions. Its premise is the idea of openness of justice, which can be interpretated as an effort to build and develop active and effective communication of courts with the public. However, the Czech high courts have taken very different approaches to this area, ranging from the open and active communication of the Constitutional Court to the passive and closed attitude of the Supreme Court. The thesis examines, among others, the nature of these differences and their impact on the way the media report on the decisions of the courts. The first chapter of the thesis attempts to analyse significant aspects of the active and open presentation of courts decisions and introduce its means and tools. It also examines the attitudes of domestic high courts on the issue, through the statements of their spokespersons in response to questions sent by the author. The second chapter focuses on the relationship between the courts and the media. It discusses its importance in today's society and analyses the pitfalls and risks that arise from it. It also looks at the factors influencing whether the..

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

V poslední části práce věnující se výsledkům konfrontuje autor tyto příklady vývoje...Department of Politology and SociologyKatedra politologie a sociologieFaculty of LawPrávnická fakult

Does Political Ideology Influence the Czech Counstitutional Court's Decision-making?

    No full text
In the presented thesis the author analyses the possible influence of judges' ideolog-ical beliefs on the Czech Constitutional court decision making. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and analytical one. The first part emphasizes the need to distin-guish between the fact that courts' decisions have political consequences and the suspi-cion that those decisions are made in a political way. The theoretical part thus focuses on the discussions on the judicialization of politics, constitutional interpretation, judicial legitimacy and the attitudinal model of judicial decision making. Since the judge can no longer be seen only as "the mouth that pronounces the words of the law", other factors than the text of law (or the Constitution) that determine their decisions should be taken into account. Political beliefs could be one of such factors. Nevertheless, the author ar-gues, that judges lack democratic legitimacy for making purely political decisions and so it is important that they suppress the conscious or subconscious tendency to decide the constitutional cases according to their ideological beliefs. It is thus useful to test the sceptical hypothesis, that what judges do is actually pure politics. It is argued that the analysis of the decision making can be enriched by employing the..

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
