The role of music in the artistic production of Giuseppe Chiari
The work aims to investigate the relationship between music and figurative arts in the figure of Giuseppe Chiari, retracing the fundamental points of his artistic production.
A comparative analysis is proposed on the writings and documents published by various prominent personalities and scholars of the figure of Chiari, to establish which connections existed between these two disciplines in the unity of his artistic production
How does labor supply react to different tax rates? A field inquiry
Participants (96 students) were divided into three groups. Subjects in Group 1 were asked their labor supply, being their income burdened by a 25% tax rate. Then they were asked their labor supply if the tax rate were 40%. Subjects in G2 were asked their labor supply with a 25% tax rate, and subjects in G3 with a 40% tax rate. We first compared labor supplies within G1; then we compared labor supplies between G2 and G3. Finally we compared the two comparisons. In G1, subjects' labor supply is different, negatively related with the tax rate: this is probably due to how the questions are put, which suggest different answers. In fact, comparing G2 and G3, the labor supply is almost the same. Students who are part-time workers and students who are not supply different amounts of labor. There is no difference at all when comparing G2 and G3 as for non-working students, being the whole difference between G2 and G3 due to working students, who probably compare the tax rate they pay on their real income to the ones suggested in the questionnaire. Singling out non-biased responders, i.e. non-working students in G2 and G3, the tax rate on income, if given, independently of its level, does not influence the labor supply.labour supply, taxation, individual behaviour

Paper abstract:

Operator Precedence Languages (OPL) have been recently identified as
a suitable formalism for model checking recursive procedural programs,
thanks to their ability of modeling the program stack. OPL requirements
can be expressed in the Precedence Oriented Temporal Logic (POTL),
which features modalities to reason on the natural matching
between function calls and returns, exceptions, and other advanced
programming constructs that previous approaches, such as Visibly Pushdown
Languages, cannot model effectively. Existing approaches for model
checking of POTL have been designed following the explicit-state,
automata-based approach, a feature that severely limits their scalability.
In this paper, we give the first symbolic, SMT-based approach for model
checking POTL properties. While previous approaches construct the
automaton for both the POTL formula and the model of the program, we
encode them into a (sequence of) SMT formulas. The search of a trace of
the model witnessing a violation of the formula is then carried out by an
SMT-solver, in a Bounded Model Checking fashion.
We carried out an experimental evaluation, which shows the effectiveness of the proposed solution.

Sharing the pie: the Lutheran is neither opportunistic nor generous
This paper studies how individual religiosity affects people's behaviour. In particular here I study the behaviour of the second players in a standard trust game. They have the possibility of sharing some resources between themselves and their game mates. It results that more religious people tend to choose an even allocation of these resources, whilst the less religious participants are either opportunistic or generous.religiosity, distribution of resources, inequity aversion
Formal and informal sectors: Interactions between moneylenders and traditional banks in the rural Indian credit market
This paper describes, through a theoretical approach, the interactions between institutional lenders and local moneylenders, and how these affect the rural credit market. It evaluates the effects produced by the introduction of "spillovers" in a rural credit market with rationing in which banks and moneylenders interact simultaneously while working in distinct segments. Due to the strong and consolidated social ties, it is probable that the spread of knowledge concerning potential debtors comes about in targeted and rapid way with reduced costs for the lenders as well.
The author analyzes the labour consequences of the succession between entrepreneurs, starting from a recognition of the various types of outsourcing with the related needs and main critical issues.
The survey focuses primarily on the transfer of businesses, examining European legislation and case-law and then moving on to internal legislation, trade union procedures and a specific focus on the transfer of companies in crisis.
The author then dwells on the contract, taking into account in particular the indications of authenticity, the criteria of distinction from the illicit administration of labour and the protection of workers in the event of turnover between companies.
Finally, the research deepens the "social clauses", both first and second generation, assessing their compatibility with European law and with the constitution and reflecting on possible remedies in case of their violation
Effectiveness of Multilayered Polyurethane Foam Dressings to Prevent Hospital-Acquired Sacral Pressure Injuries in Patients With Hip Fracture: A Randomized Controlled Trial
The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of a multilayered polyurethane foam dressing applied within 24 hours of hospital admission compared with standard preventive pressure injury (PI) care in reducing sacral PI occurrence in older patients with hip fractures
Machine Learning Models for Predicting Short-Long Length of Stay of COVID-19 Patients
During 2020 and 2021, managing limited healthcare resources and hospital beds has been a fundamental aspect of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Predicting in advance the length of stay, and in particular identifying whether a patient is going to stay in the hospital longer or less than a week, can provide important support in handling resources allocation. However, there have been significant changes in terms of containment measures, virus diffusion, new treatments, vaccines, and new variants of SARS-CoV-2 during the last period. These changes pose several conceptual drift issues that can limit the usefulness of machine learning in this context. In this work, we present a machine learning system trained and tested using data from more than 6000 hospitalised patients in northern Italy, distributed over almost two years of pandemic. We show how machine learning can be effective even by analysing data over this long period of time, also exploiting a model that predicts the patient's outcome in terms of discharge or death. Furthermore, learning from data that also consider deceased patients is a common issue in predicting the length of stay because they have severe conditions similar to patients with a long stay period, but may actually have a very short duration of hospitalisation. For this purpose, we present a method for handling data from alive and deceased patients, exploiting more patient records, increasing the robustness of the model and its performance in this task. Finally, we investigate the features that are most relevant to the prediction of the simplified length of stay
