A Rosary of Rubies: The Chronicle of the Gur-rigs mDo-chen Tradition from South-Western Tibet
The mDo-chen bKa’-brgyud-pa school represents a little known Buddhist tradition from Mang-yul Gung-thang in south-western Tibet. It goes back to a Buddhist yogin known as Ma-bdun-pa or Ma-bdun ras-chen (12th/13th c.) and was later mainly spread by members of the Gur family. Although belonging to the “Upper ’Brug” (stod ’brug) branch of the ’Brug-pa bKa’-brgyud-pa school, the mDo-chen tradition has always been deeply infused with the “spoken teachings” (bka’ ma) and “treasure teachings” (gter ma) of the rNying-ma-pa school, and the cult of the “Seven Ma-mo Sisters” (ma mo mched bdun) was particularly practised and transmitted by its members. This book presents a critical edition, an annotated translation and a photographic reproduction of a manuscript copy of a rare chronicle of the Gur-rigs mDo-chen tradition written by Brag-dkar rta-so sPrul-sku Chos-kyi dbang-phyug (1775–1837). The text provides us with an overview of the tradition’s development mainly through biographical accounts but also through prophecies, prayers and praises for individual masters. The study concludes with two appendices based on the mDo chen bka’ brgyud gser ’phreng, a lineage history composed in the 15th century, and the “records of teachings received” (thob yig) of three important members of the Gur family, thus allowing us to gain an insight into the transmissions of the mDo-chen bKa’-brgyud-pa school and the interactions of its representatives with other important Buddhist teachers up to the 18th century. The present work is a further outcome of the author’s investigations into the cultural and religious traditions of south-western Tibet and the neighbouring Himalayan valleys

Exploring Critical Success Factors of the K12 Digital School
In the new era of information technology, teachers will have to keep learning in order to offer students with proper directions. However; the traditional teacher professional training modes still have a lot of problems, so the teachers\ue2 aspiration in pursuing further professional development is not high. Teacher\ue2s training through the Internet using digital school therefore becomes one of the possible solutions to solve this problem. The management model of digital school is different than the traditional physical school; it will be difficult to run the school continuously if key factors are not operated and managed well. The Kaohsiung city K12 digital school is founded in 2001 by Prof. Nian-Shing Chen. It has already opening teachers\ue2 training courses for 10 semesters, and its excellent achievement has obtained an honor of wining the third place for the competition held by the Executive Yuan in Taiwan in 2002. It certainly exhibited its excellent model in implementation and operation. Therefore; exploring the critical success factors of K12 digital school will be able to advance its strengths to the digital school operators, for helping them to operate the digital school continuously and extend to the other cities and counties around Taiwan. All the teachers from the elementary and secondary schools will be able to have a more innovated and convenient digital learning environment.
This study adopted Analytic Hierarchy Process for the research of critical success factors for K12 digital school, and the result showed that course content is the critical success factor. The most important elements are encouraging interactive course design, and the requirements of the course content that fits the students. We hereby recommend the operators of K12 digital schools to acquire the requirements of the teachers in advance before planning the courses, and offering the courses that will be useful for them. While designing the courses, the schools also need to consider enhancing the interactive and corporative learning activities. We also suggest the K12 digital schools to gain the supports of principles and government administrative chiefs. The positive reward system will be one of the attractions to encourage teachers to attend the training courses in K12 digital schools. The selection of the courses and the training of the teaching team are also the key factors to the success of running K12 digital schools

An online synchronous test for professional interpreters
This article is based on an experiment designed to conduct an interpreting test for multiple candidates online, using web-based synchronous cyber classrooms. The test model was based on the accreditation test for Professional Interpreters produced by the National Accreditation Authority of Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) in Australia. Specifically, the test involved interpreting-specific components such as dialogue interpreting, sight translation, and consecutive interpreting, as well as non-interpreting-specific components such as questions on ethical issues. The test was conducted live synchronously and concurrently with multiple candidates – i.e., all candidates were tested in their own locations at the same time. The result of the experiment indicates the potential and feasibility of conducting interpreting tests online using the specific technology of synchronous cyber classrooms. However, there are also a number of constraints when compared to conventional face-to-face tests. There is a need for further studies on how to effectively apply this kind of technology to conduct interpreting tests for multiple candidates online in synchronous mode and without the constraints identified in this research
