Turbulent plane Couette flow with wall-transpiration
No full textIn the present abstract, DNS results obtained for turbulent plane Couette flow with wall-normal transpiration velocity are presented. Important equations valid in such a flow are derived, describing the total shear stress and the relation between the friction velocities at the lower and upper wall. These expressions are of importance, as there are neither experimental nor DNS data to compare with. Equally important, we derive a center region and a viscous sublayer velocity scaling for the suction wall, which were both validated using the DNS data

Glaucoma is still one of the leading causes of the blindness and low vision. According to the World Health Organization, an estimated number of glaucoma patients is 60.5 to 105 million and is growing steadily. In many highly developed countries, glaucoma accounts for 13–28% of blindness. High intraocular pressure (IOP) is the most important risk factor for glaucomatous optic neuropathy and low vision in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). It was demonstrated that IOP lowering to the individual tolerant level in POAG preserves vision for a long time.
The paper discusses potential adoption of of the software for the calculation of tolerant IOP in POAG. Tolerant IOP calculations will help to adjust treatment in time to achieve individual IOP normal ranges, to predict glaucoma stabilization or progression as well glaucoma progression rate. The algorithm of treatment strategy for POAG is described.

No full textResearch of the special physical qualities of 22 highly skilled athletes-sprinters is conducted in a competition period. In the training process of macrocycle the use of the author program of application is offered Omega-3. The inspection of sportsmen was conducted at the end of the second competition period of macrocycle of preparation and at the beginning of the first competition period of next macrocycle. It is set that application of the author program is instrumental in the increase of the special physical qualities of runners. For determination of level of physical training tests were utillized. It is set that among seven exercises of the special physical training most increases were observed for sportsmen in such exercises: at run on 30 meters with to motion (4,74%), at run 60 meters from a low start (1,74%), at run 150 meters from a low start (0,96%)

No full textApollodorus’ interpretation of Hermes’ epithets ἀκάκητα, σῶκος and ἐριούνιος, from his theological treatise Περὶ θεῶν, can be reconstructed comparing the most important (and chronological near) witnesses of the work, the Homeric lexicon by Apollonius the Sophist (I sec. AD?), Cornutus’ allegorical manual (I sec. AD) and the Homeric allegories by Heraclitus (I-II AD?). Apollonius’ lexicon is fundamental, inasmuch its author is not interested in altering Apollodorus’ interpretations. According to this reconstruction, Apollodorus intented ἐριούνιος as the «helpful» (from ὀνίνημι), σῶκος as the «strong» (from the Attic verb σωκέω, «to have the strength») – in this case Cornutus is useful to integrate Apollonius’ text – ἀκάκητα as the «giver of no evil» (perfectly complementary of the Homeric epithet δώτωρ ἐάων, «giver of goods»). These epithets reflect the highly positive nature of the god, seen by Apollodorus as the «reason» (λόγος).
