Artificial immune system and Gaussian Mixture Model applied to damage detection and classification in a controlled dynamic system
Control systems are experienced in everyday life, providing optimization for various tools and systems on which humans rely. The use of controllers in dynamic systems directly aims at their applicability and increased safety; hence, their proper functioning is directly linked to the appropriate modeling of the target plant. Considering these points and the different potential damages that dynamic systems might suffer due to the nature of their operation, the need to monitor the structural integrity of these systems, which can have their physical characteristics modified, is validated. A commonly used technique for this purpose is Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), a data-driven system that can help detect failures, thus enabling appropriate action resulting from early prognosis. One tool used for this purpose is the so-called Artificial Immune Systems (AISs), within this class of algorithms, the Negative Selection Algorithms (NSAs) differentiate between self and non-self agents for signal classification, replicating a function present in the Natural Immune System (NIS). In this work, the application of an SHM system, using NSA-type AIS as a pattern recognition tool, is proposed for detecting damages in controlled dynamic systems. As this mechanical system is naturally unstable, its operation directly depends on the existence of a controller, which must ensure its stability and the desired dynamic behavior, such as tracking a variable reference. The adopted approach uses the controller's output variables as data to monitor its operational conditions. Moreover, given that the combination of analyses performed by the AIS on the output data forms an affinity space, a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) capable of semisupervised classification of operational conditions is created. As a result, the combination of the proposed techniques applied to the analysis of four unique structural conditions, simulating damage to the structure and actuator, achieved a damage detection rate of 99.38% and a classification accuracy of 94.38% across 20 distinct generations of reference data.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)CAPES: 88887.678338/2022-00CAPES: 00
No-linear dynamics and control of an ideal and non-ideal neural system
In this work it is studied the plasmatic membrane behavior through an electric circuit. The electric model was developed by Hodgkin and Huxley at 1952 and it treats of the variation of the amount of time related with the potassium and sodium conductance's in the squid axon, this model has served as an archetype for mannering mathematical model of eletrophysiology of biological membranes. Hodgkin and Huxley developed differential equations for the propagation of electric signals, and later they had been modified to describe the behavior of neurons in other animals and for other excitable types of as pancreatic cells, cardio paths and staple fibres of Purkinje. Thus the dynamics of the Hodgkin-Huxley model have been extensively studied both with a view to their biological implications and as a test bed for numerical methods that can be applied to more complex models. Recently, a chaotic irregular movement of the potential of action of the membrane was observes through several techniques of control with the objective to stabilize the variation of this potential. This Phd dissertation deals with an analysis of the nonlinear dynamics in the Hodgkin-Huxley mathematical model, namely, the existence of quasi-periodic solutions in the model with its original parameters, and still we present modifications in the system to demonstrate the non-ideal dynamics behavior, that is when one consider the interaction between the energy source and the dynamical system and we developed an optimal linear control design for the action potential of membrane. They had been disclosed the conditions that allow using a controllinear feedback for non-linear systemDoutoradoMecanica dos Sólidos e Projeto MecanicoDoutor em Engenharia Mecânic
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Diagnosis and analysis of failures in rotating machines using the negative selection agorithm with continuous learning
With production processes increasingly more optimized and efficient, rotating machines and equipment are indispensable in most mechanical projects. They are responsible for supplying and transferring forces from industrial plants, and their availability directly influences productivity, profitability and employee safety. Failure in this type of equipment causes variations in the spatial parameters of the structure and modifies its dynamic behavior through the variation of rigidity, mass and shock absorption. Structural health monitoring systems (SHM), through the use of advanced technological tools, such as sensors and intelligent techniques, fuzzy logic and artificial immune systems, are able to identify damage in its initial stage, measure the severity of problem and optimize the procedures for solving it. The goal of this research is the design and development of an SHM based on intelligent computing techniques, through an algorithm of artificial immune systems with negative selection and continuous learning, capable of detecting, classifying and quantifying structural failures in rotating dynamic systems. The performance of the negative selection algorithm (ASN) was verified in isolation, which presented good results when the damages were known and included in the detector bank. When these data were not in the database, the algorithm was unable to recognize them, justifying the integration of the Clonal Selection Algorithm (CLONALG) continuous learning algorithm to the ASN which, in this case, was able to identify damage efficiently and robustly

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dynamics and control of a parametrically excited piezoelectric energy harvesting system
The capture and conversion of environmental energy into useful energy is known as energy harvesting, and can take several forms, such as mechanical, acoustic, solar and thermal gradients. Vibrational energy harvesting systems (VEHS), are systems that use vibrations as an energy source and are known as a supplemental power source for trickle-load applications or for powering and maintaining remote devices and sensors that need little energy to operate function, such as pacemakers, spinal cord stimulators and microelectromechanical systems. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a linear feedback control for an energy harvesting system that is parametrically excited and uses piezoelectric materials as a transducer, with the aim of significantly increase the amount of energy produced compared to the initial system. To do this, it is first necessary to analyze the stability of the system and carry out a global sensitivity analysis to verify which physical parameters of the system are most influential in energy production. The sensitivity analysis is carried out by calculating the Sobol indices, and the stability analysis is carried out according to the techniques developed by Sinha and Butcher for periodic systems. The two techniques presented, stability analysis and global sensitivity, provide important information so that a more efficient controller can be designed. The control technique used in this thesis is based on the Sinha and Butcher studies and is known as Linear Feedback Controller Design via

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
