An x-ray investigation on the formation of oxides of niobium
The oxidation behaviour of pure niobium powder has been studied in air at temperatures upto 1400°C. Various oxides which formed at different temperatures were identified by x-ray diffraction method. The metal is found to oxidise in air at and above 400°C to its stable oxide. Nb2O5. Below 400°C, oxygen enters into solid solution with niobium while above this temperature, the pentoxide, is Nb2O5 formed. Two allotropic forms of Nb2O5 were detected. The low temperature a-form which is found to exist upto 900°C transforms irreversibly to the high temperature b-form. (Dr. J.P. Guha, Scientist and Mr. P. Regional variation in banking services and social exclusion
Chakravarty S. P. (2006) Regional variation in banking services and social exclusion, Regional Studies 40, 415-428. The paper examines the argument that the concentration of banking in large urban areas could result in social exclusion. There are those who fear that customers living in peripheral regions will suffer discrimination, and businesses will decline. An alternative view is that the geographical proximity of banks in an age of electronic communication is not needed. These conflicting views are examined in the context of the literature on statistical discrimination. It is concluded that it would be unwise to write off the importance of geography in the location of financial services. Stealth-Trading: Which Traders' Trades Move Stock Prices?
Using audit trail data for a sample of NYSE firms, we show that medium size trades are associated with a disproportionately large cumulative stock price change relative to their proportion of all trades and volume. This result is consistent with the predictions of the stealth- trading hypothesis (Barclay and Warner (1993)). We find that the source of this disproportionately large cumulative price impact of medium size trades is trades initiated by institutions. This result appears robust to various sensitivity checks. Our findings appear to confirm street lore that institutions are informed traders.stealth-trading, adverse selection, informed trading, trade size
