Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

Reinforcement of the distribution grids to improve the hosting capacity of distributed generation: Multi-objective framework

    No full text
© 2023 The Author(s)Excessive penetration of renewable energy resources into the distribution grid without additional preventive measures has led to several operational problems. However, most strategies developed to accommodate more renewable energy units suffered from other operational problems. Therefore, further efforts are needed to address the other key vulnerabilities of the grid in addition to maximizing the hosting capacity. In this regard, this study is devoted to a new multi-objective formulation to maximize the hosting capacity and minimize the total energy losses while satisfying the operational constraints and maximizing the energy transferred to off-peak hours. The Multi-Objective Advanced Gray Wolf Optimization (MOAGWO) algorithm is used as a solution tool. The proposed formulation and solution algorithm are tested on IEEE-33-bus and 69-bus medium voltage test systems. The impacts of energy storage systems, voltage regulators, and static var compensators on the hosting capacity and the objective functions are identified using several scenarios. The results showed that the optimal device type and locations depend on the level of DG penetration. Finally, a comparison according to two popular multi-objective performance indices showed that the quality of the Pareto front distribution obtained by MOAGWO was better than the ones obtained with the two other popular heuristic methods

Occult hepatitis B virus infection [Gizli hepatit B virüs infeksiyonu]

For HBV infection, several distinct outcomes have been defined traditionally based on the results of serological tests for HBV antigens and the antibodies produced against them: recovery, chronic hepatitis B, 'healthy' carier, and occult hepatitis B. Occult hepatitis B has recently been identified by sensitive PCR assays that may detect low levels of HBV DNA in the serum samples and/or liver of people who are HBsAg negative. The molecular/ immunological mechanisms underlying occult hepatitis B infection remain incompletely defined and are probably multifactorial. 1- Mutation of HBV DNA in S region. 2-Integration of HBV DNA into host's chromosomes. 3- HBV infection of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). 4- HBV containing immun complex. 5- Status of host immun responses. 6- Virus interference. 7- HBV genotype. Occult HBV infection may cause transfusion-transmitted HBV infection, and may serve as a source of infection in liver transplant recipients. Using PCR amplification, most studies demonstrated the HBV DNA genome in 22% to 87% of the patients with HBsAg-negative and HCV RNA-positive tests. Occult hepatitis B has been associated with advanced fibrosis/cirrhosis in cross-sectional studies and with poor interferon responses in HCV-infected patients. Occult hepatitis B has been reported in a high proportion of HCV-infected patients who develop hepatocellular carcinoma. HBV DNA was detected in HBsAg-negative fulminant hepatic failure in a significant proportion of cases (% 0-47). Clinicians should consider testing for occult hepatitis B in the following situations: 1- Patients with the risk factors for HBV infection in whom immunosupression is expected. 2- Patients with unexplained liver disease. 3- Patients with isolated HBcAb who are solid organ donors 4- ALT levels remain elevated in HCV-infected patients, when HCV RNA is cleared by the treatment

Grid search based hyperparameter optimization for machine learning based Non-Intrusive load monitoring

    No full text
This paper solves the Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring problem by using two machine learning based models: Xgboost and Recurrent Neural Network. We utilize and develop models using a publicly available dataset. To improve the performance we have implemented hyperparameter optimization using grid search. The numerical simulation results show that proposed Xgboost model outperforms the RNN based model. With the implementation of hyperparameter optimization an improved numerical accuracy is obtained

Synthesis and biological evaluation of new Mannich and Schiff bases containing 1,2,4-triazole and 1,3,4-oxadiazole nucleus

5-(Pyridine-3-yl)-1, 3, 4-oxadiazole-2-thiole 2, obtaining starting from nicotinic acid hydrazide were converted to the corresponding Mannich bases (3a–c) by the reaction with several heterocyclic amines in the presence of formaldehyde. 1,2,4-Triazole-3-thiole, (4) prepared from 1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiole (2) was converted to the corresponding Mannich bases (5a–e) by several steps. The synthesis of Schiff bases (6a–d) was performed from the reaction of the corresponding triazol-3-thioles with various aromatic aldehydes. The treatment of Schiff bases containing 1,2,4-triazoles 6c and 6d with morpholine or thiomorpholine generated the corresponding Mannich bases 7a, b and 8a, b. The synthesized compounds were screened for their antimicrobial, antilipase, and antiurease activities. Some of them were found to possess good-moderate antimicrobial, antiurease, and/or antilipase activity
