Sleep Quality Of Elders Living In Long-term Care Institutions [qualidade Do Sono De Idosos Residentes Em Instituição De Longa Permanência]
This study was aimed at evaluating sleep quality and identifying sleep related problems among elderly people living in longterm care institutions in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. Subjects were 38 cognitively preserved elders living in these institutions for at least a year. Data collection was performed using the following instruments: Identification Form, Katz Index and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Results showed that 81.6% of the studied elders reported their sleep quality was good or very good. Nevertheless, there was an elevated frequency of sleep related problems such as: getting up to go to the bathroom (63.2%); getting up in the middle of the night or very early in the morning (50%); feeling too hot (23.7%); feeling pain (21.1%). These findings show an evident contradiction between elders' perception of their sleep quality and the actual elevated number of identified sleep problems.443619626Veras, R., Fórum Envelhecimento populacional e as informações de saúde do PNAD: demandas e desafios contemporâneos: introdução (2007) Cad Saúde Pública, 23 (10), pp. 2463-2466Alessi, C.A., Martin, J.L., Webber, A.P., Kim, E.C., Harker, J.O., Josephson, K.R., Randomized, controlled trial of a nonpharmacological intervention to improve abnormal sleep/wake patterns in nursing home residents (2005) J Am Geriatr Soc, 53 (5), pp. 803-810Alessi, A.C., Schnelle, F.J., Approach to sleep disorders in the nursing home setting (2000) Sleep Med Rev, 4 (1), pp. 45-46Katz, S., Ford, A.B., Moskowitz, R.W., Jackson, B.A., Jaffe, M.W., The index of ADL: a standardized measure of biological and psychosocial function (1963) JAMA, 185 (12), pp. 914-919Buysse, D.J., Reynolds C.F. 3rd, Monk, T.H., Berman, S.R., Kupfer, D.J., The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index: a new instrument for psychiatric practice and research (1989) Psychiatry Res, 28 (2), pp. 193-213Diogo, M.J.D., Duarte, Y.A.O., Cuidados em domicílio: conceitos e práticas (2002) Tratado de geriatria e gerontologia, pp. 133-150. , Freitas EV, Py L, Neri AL, Cançado FAX, Gorzoni ML, Rocha SM, organizadoras. Sleep Quality In Hiv-positive Outpatients
The objective of this study was to characterize the sleep quality of Human Immuno-Deficiency Virus (HIV) seropositive outpatients with or without AIDS symptoms. This is a descriptive and cross-sectional study. Sociodemographic and clinical data were collected by means of a questionnaire, and sleep quality by means of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Brazilian version. Participants were 122 subjects (55.7% male, 44.3% female; mean age 42.3 ± 8.9 years); 53.3% reported good sleep quality and 46.7% reported poor sleep quality. Subjects reported sleeping a mean of 7.3 (± 1.8) hours; sleep latency was 23.2 (± 26.2) minutes, and sleep efficiency, 87.8% (± 14.4). A significant association was found between good sleep quality and: having a partner; undetectable viral load; and maintenance of risk behavior. It is recommended that nursing professionals systematically include questions regarding sleep when evaluating patients with HIV/AIDS, so that changes are detected early and relevant background information is obtained in order to plan interventions.464892899http://www.aids.gov.br/publicacao/, Brasil. Morningness/eveningness Chronobiological Assessment Of Dental Students: Chronotype [avaliação De Matutinidade/vespertinidade Dos Estudantes De Odontologia: Cronótipo]
Background and objective: Considering that chronotype is an individual differential characteristic reflecting the time of day when individuals have their best performances, some people prefer to wake up early in the morning and are more alert in the first part of the day, others prefer to wake up later, as their peak time of the day is in the evening, and they prefer to go to bed late at night. The purpose of this study was to analyze the chronotype of undergraduate dental students and to identity the relationship between chronotype and periods of both physical activity and study, as well as to verify the correlation to age. Methods: Seventy-five first-year students, who participated voluntarily in the study, both genders, whose mean age was 19 years old (±1.5), answered the Horne and Ostberg Questionnaire (1976), which was modified and validated by Benedito-Silva et al. or Brazilian population and was applied at the Dental School of the University of São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto (USP). Results: The results revealed a predominance of "Indifferent" chronotype, followed by "Moderately eveningness", "Moderately morningness" and "Definitely eveningness" chronotypes. A significant statistical correlation was not observed between chronotypes and individual characteristics. Conclusions: There was a predominance of indifferent chronotype among dental students and we did not find any correlation between chronotype, time of study, physical activity, gender and age.31710Reinberg, A., Smolensky, M., Introduction to Chronobiology (1983) Biological Rhythms and medicine: Celular, metabolic, physiopathologic and pharmacologic aspects, pp. 1-19. , In, New York: Springer VerlagMenna-Barreto, L.S., O tempo na Biologia (1997) Cronobiologia: Princípios e aplicações, pp. 17-21. , In: Marques N, Menna-Barreto LS, organizadores, São Paulo: EduspDe Martino, M.M.F., Ling, S.Y., Características cronobiológicas de um grupo de alunos universitários de enfermagem (2004) Rev Ciênc Méd., 13 (1), pp. 43-49Horne, J.A., Ostberg, O., A self-assessment questionnaire to determine mornigness-eveningness in human circadian rhythms (1976) Int J Chronobiol., 4 (2), pp. 97-110De Martino, M.M.F., Ceolim, M.F., Avaliação do cronótipo de enfermeiros de hospital universitário de ensino (2001) Rev Ciênc Méd., 10 (1), pp. 19-27Zubioli, M.A.S., Miranda Neto, M.H., Sant'ana, D.M.G., Avaliação dos cronótipos dos auxiliares de enfermagem do Hospital Santa Casa de Paranavaí-PR (1998) Arq Ciênc Saúde Unipar., 2 (3), pp. 241-247Campos, M.L., De Martino, M.M.F., Estudo das características cronobiológicas dos enfermeiros docentes cronótipo (2001) Nursing., 42 (4), pp. 31-34De Martino, M.M.F., (1996) Estudo da variabilidade circadiana da temperatura oral, do ciclo vigília-sono e de testes psicofisiológicos de enfermeiras em diferentes turnos de trabalho [tese], , Campinas: Instituto de BiologiaZavada, A., Gordijn, M.C.M., Beersma, D.G.M., Daan, S., Roenneberg, T., Comparison of the Munich Chronotype Questionnaire with the Horne-Ostberg's Morningness-Eveningness Score (2005) Chronobiol Int., 22 (2), pp. 267-278Benedito-Silva, A.A., Menna-Barreto, L.S., Marques, N., Tenreiro, S., A self-assessment questionnaire for the determination of morningness-eveningness types in Brazil (1990) Chronobiology: Its role in clinical medicine, general biology and agriculture, part B, pp. 89-98. , In: Hayes DK, Pauly JE, Reiter RJ, editors, New York: Wiley-LissSiegel, S., (1975) Estatística não-paramétrica (para as ciências do comportamento), , São Paulo: MacGraw-HillWerner, H., LeBourgeois, M.K., Geiger, A., Jenni, O.G., Assessment of chronotype in four to eleven-year-old children: Reability and validity of the children's chronotype questionnaire (CCTQ) (2009) Chronobiol Int., 26 (5), pp. 992-101
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
Sleep Quality In Aged Patients With Peripheral Vascular Diseases [qualidade Do Sono Em Pacientes Idosos Com Patologias Vasculares Periféricas]
Peripheral vascular diseases (PVD) are prevalent among the elderly, and, due to their chronic character, result in poor quality of life and poor sleep quality. This study aimed at evaluating sleep quality of elderly people diagnosed with PVD who undergo clinical ambulatory treatment in a university hospital in Campinas, in the State of São Paulo. Subjects (n=50, aged 74 ± 8 years old) answered the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and provided basic demographic data and PVD history (35 subjects had arterial blockage in lower limbs). Results showed that 34 subjects presented bad sleep quality; sleep length was 5.8 (± 2.3) hours, and, according to 23 subjects, night sleep was frequently disturbed by pain (thrice a week or more). Eighteen subjects took analgesics; four took sleep medicines. Findings may have important implications for nurses working with PVD patients, stressing the need to take into account consequences of PVD on sleep disturbances when planning their interventions.4211218Gandolpho, M.A., (2002) O cuidar do idoso hospitalizado: Representações dos profissionais de enfermagem, , dissertação, São Paulo: Faculdade de Saúde Pública, Universidade de São Paulo;Smeltzer, S.C., Bare, B.G., (2002) Brunner & Suddarth: Tratado de enfermagem médico-cirúrgica, , 9a ed.
