The effect of Echinacea on kidney and liver after experimental renal ischemia/reperfusion injury in the rats
The aim of the study is to investigate the effect of Echinacea on kidney and liver against oxidative stress during renal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury, by determining biochemical parameters and evaluating histological examinations. Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were evaluated in five groups (each group consists of 8 animals). Group 1 (Control; non-ischemic animals); Group 2 (renal I/R injury+Saline), Group 3 (renal I/R injury + Echinacea, 25 mg/kg), Group 4 (renal I/R injury + Echinacea, 50 mg/kg) Group 5 (renal I/R injury+ Echinacea, 100 mg/kg) were designed to evaluate effects of Echinacea in renal I/R injury on the morphological changes in kidney and liver. A right nephrectomy was performed for I/R injury. On the 15th day following nephrectomy, ischemia and reperfusion was performed. Echinacea was administered intraperitoneally. Left kidney and liver were taken after 24 h of reperfusion period for histopathological examinations. The malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) enzyme activities were determined from tissue homogenates. In the study, Echinacea administration in renal ischemia-reperfusion decreased MDA in kidney and liver. SOD activity was decreased with low and high doses of Echinacea treatment in both kidney and liver. Echinacea administration decreased CAT levels in kidney and no difference was observed between Echinacea doses. CAT was increased in liver low dose group. But CAT was decreased in high doses of Echinacea. Histopathological examinations showed partial improvement in the damages seen in I/R injury after Echinacea administration at both kidney and liver. Echinacea may be effective in preventing oxidative injury
Are plain radiographs reliable in Lichtman classification?
Objectives: This study aims to investigate the reliability of the Lichtman classification among residents, orthopedic surgeons, and hand surgeons. Materials and methods: This study was carried out with 30 male observers (mean age 37.8 years; range, 26 to 62 years) who agreed to participate in the study. All observers were orthopedic surgeons. The observers were separated into three groups that consist of 10 residents, 10 orthopedic surgeons, and 10 hand surgeons. The anteroposterior and lateral wrist radiographs of 20 patients (12 males. 8 females; mean age 49 years; range, 38 to 74 years) diagnosed as Kienbock's disease were sent to observers via e-mail as a survey. All 40 radiographs were asked to be kept classified. Results: The classification of Kienbock's disease was analyzed by 30 observers on 40 digital radiographs. The overall agreement with the Lichtman classification was fair within all of the observers (kappa=0.203). When groups were evaluated within themselves, the agreement level was found poor in group 1 (kappa=0.162) and fair in group 2 (kappa=0.210) and group 3 (kappa=0.252). Conclusion: A useful classification system in orthopedics and traumatology should classify the type of musculoskeletal disorder reliably, facilitate communication in clinical practice, guide preoperative planning, and enable comparison of results between studies. The Lichtman classification alone is insufficient and should be supported by other imaging and measurement techniques
Relationship between phase angle measured with bioelectrical impedance analysis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in adults
Purpose - The phase angle (PhA) measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is associated with nutritional status and cellular health, and it is a clinically important parameter used to assess the risk of various diseases. It remains unclear whether PhA is associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the BIA parameter PhA and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Design/methodology/approach - This cross-sectional study was conducted with 300 adults aged 20-64 years (NAFLD: 196, normal: 104). Some biochemical findings of the participants were collected, and whole-body and segmental PhAs were measured using Tanita (MC-780) at 50 kHz. Findings - The PhA values of the whole body (p = 0.003), trunk (p < 0.001), right and left legs (p < 0.001 for both) were found to significantly differ according to the degrees of fatty liver. It was observed that the highest PhA values were in normal individuals. Logistic regression analysis showed that the reduction in PhAs of the whole body (p = 0.038), right (p = 0.019) and left legs (p = 0.049) and trunk (p = 0.001) after adjusting for all confounding factors increased the risk of NAFLD. Additionally, whole body PhA was significantly associated with age (year, p = 0.02), BMI (kg/m2; p < 0.001), fat mass (kg; p = 0.001), fat mass (%; p < 0.001), albumin (g/L; p < 0.001) and CRP (mg/dL; p = 0.001). Originality/value - The results of this study showed that PhA can be used in the management of NAFLD. To identify potential mechanisms in the relationship between the angle of the liver and NAFLD, large-scale prospective studies are needed.The authors are grateful to all individuals who participated in this study. Radio(chemo)therapie des Beckenrezidivs bei Rektumkarzinom - Retrospektive Analyse der Behandlung und Ergebnisse in einem monozentrischen Kollektiv
Hintergrund - Zielsetzung: Ein Lokalrezidiv nach einer kurativen Behandlung eines Rektumkarzinoms tritt bei ~10.0% der Patienten auf. Die Behandlung eines lokal rezidivierenden Rektumkarzinoms (LRRC) bleibt eine klinische Herausforderung. Ziel dieser retrospektiven Studie ist eine Untersuchung von Faktoren mit Einfluss auf Ergebnis-Parameter bei Patienten, die eine Strahlentherapie (RT) für LRRC erhielten.
Patienten und Methoden: Alle Patienten mit LRRC, die eine Strahlentherapie mit oder ohne zusätzliche Resektion erhielten, wurden analysiert. Die meisten Patienten hatten eine 3D-konformale RT, kombiniert mit CHT (Capecitabin +/- Oxaliplatin) mit einer medianen Dosis von 55,8 Gray (Gy) (25,0 Gy - 66,4 Gy). Patienten-, Tumor- und Behandlungsfaktoren wurden mittels eines Tests nach Kaplan-Meier-Schätzer und Log-Rank-Test auf ihren Einfluss auf das Überleben untersucht. Es wurden univariate und multivariate Analysen konstruiert um das lokal rezidivfreie Überleben (LRFS), das progressionsfreie Überleben (PFS), das symptomfreie Überleben (SFS), das schmerzfreie Überleben und das Gesamtüberleben (OS) zu untersuchen.
Ergebnisse: Von gesamt 35 Patienten waren 15 (42,9%) Frauen und 20 (57,1%) Männer, mit einem medianen Alter von 66,0 Jahren (31,9-90,0). Patienten, die sowohl eine RT als auch eine Resektion des Rezidivs erhielten, hatten im Vergleich zu Patienten ohne Operation eine besseres OS (p=0,040) und PFS (p=0,004). CEA nach RT des Rezidivs ≤3.8 μg/l war ein signifikanter Faktor für LRFS (p<0,001), PFS (p<0,001), SFS (p=0,003) und OS (p<0,001). Patienten mit Tumorsymptomen (andere als Schmerz) zum Diagnosezeitpunkt des Lokalrezidivs hatten ein schlechteres LRFS (p=0,013), SFS (p=0,008) und ein geringeres schmerzfreies (p=0,035) Überleben. Darüber hinaus hatten Patienten mit Symptomen (andere als Schmerz) während der Nachbeobachtungszeit ein verringertes OS (p=0,007), LRFS (p<0,001), PFS (p=0,004) und schmerzfreies Überleben (p<0,001). Tumorschmerzen zum Diagnosezeitpunkt des Lokalrezidivs waren mit einem schlechteren schmerzfreien Überleben assoziiert (p=0,048). Tumorschmerzen während der Nachbeobachtungsphase waren mit einer signifikant schlechteren LRFS (p=0,005) und SFS (p=0,005) assoziiert.
Schlussfolgerung: Diese Studie unterstützt die Schlussfolgerung, dass ein niedriger oder abnehmender CEA-Wert (≤3.8 μg/l) nach der RT des LRRC ein verbessertes Überleben voraussagt. Erfolgt zusätzlich zur RT auch eine radikale Resektion des Rezidivs wird ein besseres Gesamtüberleben als mit RT allein erzielt. Lokale Tumorsymptome (andere als Schmerzen) während der Nachbeobachtungszeit waren ein wesentlicher prognostischer Faktor, assoziiert mit einem schlechteren Überleben.Background - Purpose: Local recurrence after rectal cancer treatment occurs in ~10.0% of patients. The treatment of locally recurrent rectal cancer (LRRC) remains a clinical challenge. This study has the aim of the retrospective investigation of factors influencing outcome parameters in patients, who received radiotherapy (RT) for LRRC.
Patients and Methods: All patients with LRRC, who had radiotherapy with or without additional surgery were analyzed. Most patients had 3D conformal RT, combined with CHT (Capecitabine +/- Oxaliplatin) with a median dose of 55.8 Gray (Gy) (25.0 Gy – 66.4 Gy). Patient, tumour and treatment factors were examined for their influence on survival by means of an exact test according to Kaplan-Meier estimator and Log-Rank test. Univariate and multivariate analyses were constructed to examine local recurrence-free survival (LRFS), progression-free survival (PFS), symptom-free survival (SFS), pain-free survival and overall survival (OS).
Results: Of the 35 patients, 15 (42.9%) were women and 20 (57.1%) were men, with a median age of 66.0 years (31.9-90.0). One- and two-year from the start of RT OS was 86.0% and 66.0%, LRFS was 62.0% and 37.0%, PFS was 49.0% and 24.0%, SFS was 73.0% and 60.0%, pain-free survival was 71.0% and 64.0%, respectively. Patients who received both RT and surgery for recurrent tumour had a better OS (p=0.040) and PFS (p=0.004) when compared without surgery. CEA after RT of recurrence (≤3.8 μg/l) was significant factor for LRFS (p<0.001), PFS (p<0.001), SFS (p=0.003) and OS (p<0.001). R0/R1-resection of the recurrent tumour did significantly better than R2-resections in terms of OS (p=0.026) and PFS (p=0.003). Mucinous adenocarcinoma (MAC) had worse OS (p=0.037) and SFS (0.008) than non-MAC. Patients without previous RT for primary tumour had better LRFS (p=0.020) and pain-free survival (p=0.028). Patients with symptoms (excluding pain) during the diagnose of recurrent tumour had a worse LRFS (p=0.013), SFS (p=0.008) and pain-free (p=0.035) survival. In addition, patients with symptoms (excluding pain) during the period of follow-up had a worse OS (p=0.007), LRFS (p<0.001), PFS (p=0.004) as well as pain-free survival (p<0.001). Patients with pain during the diagnosis of local recurrence were associated with a worse pain free survival (p=0.048), while those with pain during the period of follow-up were associated with significantly a worse LRFS (p=0.005) and SFS (p=0.005).
Conclusion: This study supports the conclusion that a low or decreasing CEA value (≤3.8 μg/l) after RT of LRRC predicts improved survival. In addition to this surgery besides RT provided better overall survival that RT alone. Impact of tannic acid on blood pressure, oxidative stress and urinary parameters in L-NNA-induced hypertensive rats

Tannic acid is water-soluble polyphenol that is present in tea, green tea, coffee, red wine, nuts, fruits and many plant foods. It has been reported to serve as an antioxidant or a pro-oxidant depending on the type of cells and its concentration. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the effect of tannic acid on systolic blood pressure, oxidative stress and some urinary parameters in the rat model of essential hypertension. Blood pressures of all rats were measured using the tail-cuff method. The nitric oxide synthase inhibitor N (omega)-nitro-L-arginine was administered orally at a dose of 0.5 g/l/day for 15 days to rats in order to create an animal model of hypertension. Tannic acid was intraperitoneally injected at a dose of 50 mg/kg for 15 days. Superoxide dismutase, catalase activity and the concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA) were determined in blood plasma and homogenates of heart, liver and kidney. In order to evaluate renal functions, urine pH, urine volume, urine creatine, uric acid, and urea nitrogen values were measured. Compared with the hypertension group, a decrease in MDA concentrations of heart tissue (p < 0.01), urea nitrogen values (p < 0.01) and urine volumes (p < 0.001) were established in hypertension + tannic acid group. There was also a decrease in blood pressure values (20th and 30th days) of this group, but there was no a statistical difference according to hypertension group. The findings of our research show the effect of tannic acid in lowering blood pressure in hypertensive rats

Religious and Sufi thought has a very important place in Turkish literature. For this reason, many works with moral and educational side are in the forefront. Some of these works are written in verse and some in prose. The Tajwid books, which have a very important place among the religious works, also attracted great attention and many works related to this field were written. Tuhfe-i Şerîfî, which is the subject of our study and written by Mehmed Şerîfi as a verse, is one of these works. The author explained exemplification rules in his work. Our study consists of the introduction and the following four chapters. In the introductory part of our study, information is given about the science of Tajwid and its historical development. In the first chapter, the author 's life, literary personality and works are mentioned. In the second part, the text is examined. In the third section, the translation of the text is given and a general evaluation of the work is made by mentioning the similarities and differences between the text of the same work of the poet and the subject of our study. In the fourth chapter, the contextual index of the work has been passed and brief information about the contextual index has been given. Dini ve Tasavvufi düşüncenin Türk Edebiyatı’nda oldukça önemli bir yeri vardır. Bu nedenle ahlaki ve eğitici yanı ön planda olan birçok eser kaleme alınmıştır. Bu eserlerden bazıları manzum bazıları ise mensur bir şekilde yazılmıştır. Dini eserler içerisinde oldukça önemli bir yere sahip olan tecvid kitapları da yoğun ilgi görmüş ve bu alanla ilgili birçok eser kaleme alınmıştır.
Çalışmamıza konu olan ve Mehmed Şerîfî tarafından manzum olarak yazılmış Tuhfe-i Şerîfî’de bu eserlerden bir tanesidir. Yazar eserinde tecvid kurallarını örneklendirerek açıklamıştır. Çalışmamız giriş ve onu takip eden dört bölümden oluşmuştur. Çalışmamızın giriş bölümünde tecvid ilmi ve tarihsel gelişimi hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Birinci bölümde müellifin hayatı, edebi şahsiyeti ve eserlerine değinilmiştir. İkinci bölümde metnin incelenmesine geçilmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde ise metnin çevirisi verilerek, 2014 yılında Sadettin Eğri tarafından çalışılan, şairin aynı eserinin daha küçük bir versiyonu ile çalışmamamıza konu olan metin arasındaki benzerlikler ile farklılıklara değinilerek, eserin genel bir değerlendirmesi yapılmıştır. Dördüncü bölümde eserin bağlamlı dizinine geçilmiş ve bağlamlı dizin hakkında kısaca bilgi verilmiştir. Kaynakçadan sonra ise tıpkıbasım başlığı atılarak orijinal metin verilmişti
Bibliometric Analysis of Game-Based Researches in Educational Research
Ekin, Cansu Cigdem/0000-0003-4838-9708This research aims to conduct a bibliometric study to describe how game-based educational research is structured and how it has evolved over time. For this purpose, bibliometric analysis has been used to analyze 4980 publications indexed by the Elsevier SCOPUS database between 1967 and May 2021. The related publications were evaluated by analyzing co-authorship, co-occurrence, and citation by considering author, keyword, country, journal, university, and publication variables. As a result of the bibliometric analysis, it was concluded that the United States was leading the field and significantly publishing more studies. Top performing organizations were in Taiwan and the United States. According to the keyword co-occurrence analysis, "game-based learning" was the most used keyword followed by "serious games" and "gamification". Co-authorship status results show that collaboration between researchers in the field was not high and the number of researchers in co-author groups was small. It was found that the most influential research was related to literature review on games and the effectiveness of games on motivation or learning and Computers & Education was the most published and cited journal in game-based educational research
Determining of suitable areas for ecotourism by using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method
Turizm endüstrisinin ülke ekonomisine sağladığı faydaların yanı sıra çevre üzerindeki olumsuz etkileri de göz ardı edilemeyecek kadar fazladır. Çevre üzerindeki olumsuz etkileri azaltmak için alternatif turizm türleri ortaya çıkmış ve bunlardan birisi de ekoturizmdir. Ekoturizm, sürdürülebilir kalkınmayı benimseyerek doğal ve kültürel çevre üzerine en az etkiyle o bölgedeki yaşayan yerel halka maksimum fayda sağlamayı amaçlar. Bu nedenle ekoturizm için uygun alanların planlanması, bugün ve gelecek planlama stratejileri için oldukça önemlidir. Planlama süreci genellikle mekansal analizi de içeren çok kriterli bir süreçtir. Bu nedenle araştırma kapsamında çok kriterli karar verme yöntemlerinden biri olan Analitik Hiyerarşi Süreci (AHS) yöntemi ve Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemleri (CBS)'nin entegre kullanımıyla Çanakkale Ayvacık ilçesi Behram, Büyükhusun, Kozlu, Sazlı, Kayalar, Ahmetçe köyleri ve yakın çevresinin ekoturizm için uygun alanların belirlemesi amaçlanmıştır. Ekoturizm uygunluğunu etkileyen değerlendirme kriterleri literatür araştırması sonucunda eğim, topografik sağlamlılık indeksi, bitki örtüsü, yükseklik, korunan alanlar, iklim, görünürlük, yola uzaklık, yerleşime uzaklık, tarihi ve kültürel alanlara uzaklık, toprak ve alan kullanımı olmak üzere 13 kriter belirlenmiştir. Kriterlerin ikili karşılaştırılmalarının önem derece puanları 1-9 değer aralığındaki Satty ölçeğine göre 15 uzman tarafından puanlanmıştır. Elde edilen değerler ArcGIS 10.5 yazılımında elde edilen kriterlerin, tematik haritalarına eklenerek yeniden sınıflandırma yapılmıştır. Elde edilen raster veriler 30*30 hücre boyutunda gridlere ayrıldı ve ağırlıklara göre çakıştırma işlemi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Sonuç olarak araştırma alanında ekoturizm için çok uygun alanlar Behram köyünün kuzey, batı ve doğu kesimlerinde görülmektedir ve alansal dağılımı 1.512 km2 (%2,9)'dir. Uygun alanlar Behram köyünün doğusu, Büyükhusun köyünün batısı, güneydoğu yönleri arasında kalan ve kıyı alanlarına yakın bölgelerde yoğun olarak görülmektedir ve alansal dağılımı 11.94 km2 (%22,79)'dir. Orta uygun alanlar Büyükhusun, Kozlu, Sazlı, Kayalar ve Ahmetçe köylerinin çevresinde yoğun dağılım göstermektedir ve alansal dağılımı, 22.134 km2 (%42,25)'dir. Az uygun alanlar Sazlı köyünün güneydoğusu, kayalar köyünün güneyi ve Ahmetçe köyünün kuzey, güney, doğu ve batı yönlerinde sıklıkla görülmektedir ve alansal dağılımı 14.70 km2 (%28.07)'dir ve uygun olamayan alanlar Kayalar köyünün kuzeydoğusu ve Ahmetçe köyünün güneydoğu, doğu ve batı yönlerinde yayılım göstermektedir ve alanı 2.086 km2 (%3.98) olarak saptanmıştır.In addition to the benefits of the tourism industry to the country's economy, its negative effects on the environment are too high to be ignored. In order to reduce the negative effects on the environment, alternative tourism types have emerged and one of them is ecotourism. Ecotourism aims to provide maximum benefit to the local people living in that region with the least impact on the natural and cultural environment by adopting sustainable development. For this reason, planning suitable areas for ecotourism is very important for current and future planning strategies. The planning process is often a multi-criteria process that also includes spatial analysis. For this reason, within the scope of the research, the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHS) method, which is one of the multi-criteria decision-making methods, and the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) together, and the villages of Behram, Büyükhusun, Kozlu, Sazlı, Kayalar, Ahmetçe and their surroundings in Çanakkale Ayvacık district are suitable for ecotourism. areas are to be determined. The criteria that significantly affect the decision-making process in the evaluation of suitable areas for ecotourism are slope, topographical robustness index, vegetation, height, protected areas, climate, visibility, distance to road, distance to settlement, distance to historical and cultural sites, land and land use. 13 criteria have been determined. The importance scores of the pairwise comparisons of the criteria were determined by 15 experts according to the Satty scale in the range of 1-9. The obtained values were added to the thematic maps of the criteria obtained in ArcGIS 10.5 software and reclassified. The obtained raster data were divided into grids of 30 * 30 cell size and the registration process was carried out according to the weights. As a result, very suitable areas for ecotourism in the research area are seen in the northern, western and eastern parts of Behram village, and its areal distribution is 1.512 km2 (2.9%). Suitable areas are mostly seen in the east of Behram village, west of Büyükhusun village and in the areas close to the coastal areas, and their areal distribution is 11.94 km2 (22.79%). Medium suitable areas are densely distributed around Büyükhusun, Kozlu, Sazlı, Kayalar and Ahmetçe villages and their areal distribution is 22,134 km2 (42.25%). Less suitable areas are mostly seen southeast of Sazlı village, south of Kayalar village and north, south, east and west of Ahmetçe village and their areal distribution is 14.70 km2 (28.07%) and unsuitable areas are northeast of Kayalar village and southeast, east and west of Ahmetçe village spread and its area was determined as 2,086 km2 (3.98%)
