A Mature Artist and Digital Culture. Online Presence and Activity Strategy using the Example of Cezary Pazura
The article tries to analyse the YouTube activity of Cezary Pazura and his presence in what
is widely understood as digital culture. He is the only actor in Poland who successfully develops
his work using that platform. That is why it is important to take into consideration
his mature age and professional experience which indicate how to develop the growth of
the channel. The author explains why Pazura decided to become a YouTuber, then podcaster,
moreover the author presents his concerns and personality traits which predestine him to
internet activities. She examines the structure and the main themes of the videos, such as: the
backstage work of blockbuster movies, cult film sets, a detailed description of Polish and foreign
films, art of acting, special guests, subscribers’ jokes, memes, and unboxing. The article
reveals the strategy which helped Pazura to build an engaged community around the channel,
for example the cooperation with popular, young YouTubers. It points out that digital
activity influenced the change regarding his image — Pazura is no longer seen only through
the prism of comedy performances and receives more serious roles. He gained a wider audience
as tributes to their idol’s achievements appeared in the comments section. So far, he is
the only person in Poland working effectively as an actor, YouTuber and podcaster
Pozycja aktora w obliczu rozwoju platform streamingowych
The article analyzes an actor’s position in the face of the development of streaming services. The author uses the comparative method to present analogies and differences in how the old study system and the new streaming system function, with particular emphasis on the hierarchy in the industry, attitude to actors, work culture and wage inequalities. She draws attention to the advantages of the flourishing VOD platforms and contrasts this with the losses suffered by actors. The article recalls earlier disputes between artists and studios, which are compared with such issues as reasons of SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023, residuals for creators on the digital market, and artificial intelligence in filming. History has come the full circle: platforms have grown into a hegemon in this business and replicate old strategies. The article analyzes an actor’s position in the face of the development of streaming services. Aleksandra Śląska’s Masks
Artykuł bada dorobek artystyczny Aleksandry Śląskiej (1925–1989), aktorki teatralnej i filmowej, którą zapamiętano głównie jako specjalistkę od ról Niemek i arystokratek. Pokazuje okoliczności powstania tego stereotypu i rozbija go poprzez prezentację jej mniej znanego oblicza zawodowego. Śląska należała do pokolenia kształtującego polską kulturę w latach PRL-u i rozwijającego nowe media. Współtworzyła polską szkołą słuchowiska, polską szkołą dubbingu oraz Teatr Telewizji. Mitowi chłodnej, nieprzystępnej aktorki przeciwstawiono wizerunek wszechstronnie utalentowanej interpretatorki, wnikliwie studiującej złożoność ludzkiej natury, kobiety teatru realizującej się na wielu artystycznych polach. This article covers the artistic achievements of Aleksandra Śląska (1925–1989), a Polish theatre and film actress remembered mainly for her portrayals of German women and aristocrats. The author focuses on the emergence of this typecasting of Śląska and counters it with a discussion of her less known professional image. The article offers an analysis of a wide array of Śląska’s diverse roles, from a part in Leon Kruczkowski’s drama Niemcy (Germans), through the title role in Henry de Montherlant’s La Reine morte and Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire, to successful appearances in comedies, such as Elwira in Aleksander Fredro’s Mąż i żona (Man and Wife). The author shows that Śląska’s generation shaped Polish culture under the People’s Republic and contributed to the development of new media. Śląska co-created the Polish school of radio play, Polish school of dubbing, and Television Theatre. The article juxtaposes the myth of a cold, unapproachable actress with the image of a multi-talented interpreter exploring the complexity of human nature, a woman of the theatre active in a number of different areas. Stages for the More Sustainable Farm
Currently, agricultural farm units are faced with a double and most times contradictory challenge, in order to be successful: on the one hand the invested capital has to be profitable and the economic performance has to be maximised. On the other hand, given the socio-environmental situation, it is necessary to preserve and to protect the environment and natural resources. Given the potential conflict of the two aims, since the satisfaction of one implies the underperformance of the other (and vice versa), the question then is: which is the solution to choose? We intend, in this work, to formulate a farm plan with the purpose of reconciling the criteria of environmental sustainability with that of economic competitiveness. For this achievement we proceed to the comparative study of sustainability of different groups of farms identified in the study area (first evaluation cycle) through MESMIS (“Marco para la Evaluación de Sistemas de Manejo de Recursos Naturales Mediante Indicadores de Sustentabilidad” - Framework for Evaluation of Natural-Resource Systems Handling through Sustainability Indicators) methodology, that allowed to select the more sustainable group of farms. Based on the found potentialities and weakness on these production systems, we stepped to the planning of a production unit of bovine meat, which obeys simultaneously to economic and environmental objectives, using Multicriteria Decision. We finished the work with the sustainability evaluation between groups of farms identified previously and the planned farms (second evaluation cycle), based, again, in the MESMIS methodology, to confirm (or not) the greatest sustainability of the last ones. Analyses of the results allow us to confirm the greatest relative sustainability of the planned farm, for the diverse traced scenarios.Decision taking, planning, sustainability, Environmental Economics and Policy, Farm Management,
Ateneum, mon amour – Jaracz and Cywińska in the Theatre of Powiśle
The article focuses on the presentation of the circumstances under which Izabella Cywińska resigned as the Artistic Director of the Ateneum Theatre. The author tries to discover the roots of this notorious failure by comparing Cywińska’s activities with those implemented by Stefan Jaracz. The comparative analysis of the two management strategies covers the managers’ previous experience, repertoire and personnel policies, and internal and external conflicts. Cywińska’s turbulent three-year tenure provides a good opportunity to take a look at the situation when new repertoire and personnel changes argue with the expectations of actors accustomed to different methods and embodying different values. The paper attempts to answer the question of why the changes described by Cywińska as evolution could have been perceived by the artists as revolution. The confrontation of the two management styles gives one a chance to look at her tenure from a broader and less obvious perspective. Moreover, it shows that the intention of carrying out Jaracz’s last will and testament was doomed to fail.
BE LIKE MRS. STEVENSON. BARBARA STANWYCK AND ALEKSANDRA ŚLĄSKA IN ADAPTATION OF DRAMA SORRY, WRONG NUMBER BY LUCILLE FLETCHER
The article focuses on an analysis of Barbara Stanwyck and Aleksandra Śląska acting in adaptation of radio drama by Lucille Fletcher, Sorry, Wrong Number. It presents transformation
efforts, used both in motion picture and TVP Theatre, which have a big influence on the roles created by American and Polish actresses. Their artistic strategies are completely different and obviously determinated by specificity of film industry and TV
adaptation. Stanwyck and Śląska face the acting challenge, trying to emphasize their interpretations of the character. The article points out modifications and new motives added in both adaptations, showing that Fletcher’s radio drama is distinguished by flexiblestructure. The author of this article proves that drama’s plot is well disposed towards creative interpretation, in other words: helps discovering valuable senses of Mrs. Stevenson’s character
Aleksandra Śląska as Hedda Gabler
The article focuses on an analysis of Aleksandra Śląska acting in TVP Theatre play Hedda Gabler (1974) directed by Jan Świderski. By taking part in this artistic undertak-ing, the actress joined the circle of outstanding Ibsen’s actors such as: Karol Adwen-towicz, Irena Solska, Anna Gostyńska or Wanda Siemaszkowa. Śląska, who played gen-eral’s daughter, was prepossessed by character’s ambiguity, intellectual and personal cu-riousness. The actress also saw the timeliness of Ibsen’s drama in regards to emancipa-tion of emotions. Świderski adapted the play written in 1890, referring to an idea of the traditional theater. He perfectly projected the elements of scenography and props, rele-vant from actor’s transformation point of view. Moreover, the director often used a character setup typical for stage theatre – facing forwards to the camera and backwards to the interlocutor. The author of this article points out both perfect changes to Ibsen’s text and the actress’ utilization of interpretation strategy – restrained and hushed play. By nuances, transmitted through an all seeing eye of the camera, she creates an internally rich character
