Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Get PDFPlanning is essential for the development of a society, as well as for the implementation of a
public policy. This being influenced by the rationalities present in the society and also in the
public organisms. In this context, this research is focused on the types of planning and
rationalities that are manifested in the Municipal Health Foundation of Santa Rosa / RS
(FUMSSAR), and that influence the constitution of the current structure of the health system
of the municipality. Thus, the general objective of this research was to study the influence of
rationalities in the planning process of the Municipal Health Foundation of Santa Rosa / RS.
The approach used was phenomenological, with a qualitative approach, a case study. We
interviewed 13 FUMSSAR servers, belonging to the strategic, tactical and operational level.
We also used documentary research and observation. As a result, it was identified that the
main legal instruments for health planning at the municipal level are: the Municipal Health
Plan, the Annual Health Program, the Management Reports and the Quarterly Reports. It was
verified that FUMSSAR planning presents characteristics that are related, in part, to all
models presented and supported in the theoretical reference: Normative Planning, Strategic
Business Planning, Strategic Situational Planning, Participatory Strategic Planning. However
compared to the other types of planning there is a certain predominance of Strategic
Situational Planning. Due to the characteristics identified: the existence of several actors,
situational analysis and the political issue, are relevant aspects in the planning process in the
health area. As for the rationalities it was identified that FUMSSAR has in its planning
characteristics of Instrumental and Substantive Rationality. It is possible to conclude that
planning is influenced both by Instrumental Rationality, which is present, mainly, due to the
existing legislations that normalize the work, and, even, it can be said that by a choice, when
business environment. As for Substantive Rationality, which is predominant in FUMSSAR,
mainly at the operational level and interferes with planning, especially through the values of
users, managers and servers. As there are spaces for their participation and interaction, all
of them at some point in some way interfere with planning.O planejamento ? essencial para o desenvolvimento de uma sociedade, bem como para a

sistema de sa?de do munic?pio. Dessa forma, o objetivo geral desta pesquisa foi estudar a
influ?ncia das racionalidades no processo de planejamento da Funda??o Municipal de Sa?de
de Santa Rosa/RS. A abordagem utilizada foi a fenomenol?gica, com enfoque qualitativo, um
estudo de caso. Foram entrevistados 13 servidores da FUMSSAR, pertencentes ao n?vel
estrat?gico, t?tico e operacional. Tamb?m utilizou-se da pesquisa documental e observa??o.
Como resultado foi identificado que os principais instrumentos legais de planejamento da
sa?de no ?mbito municipal s?o: o Plano Municipal de Sa?de, a Programa??o Anual de Sa?de,
os Relat?rios de Gest?o e os Relat?rios Quadrimestrais. Verificou-se que o planejamento da
FUMSSAR apresenta caracter?sticas que se relacionam, em parte, com todos os modelos
apresentados e sustentados no referencial te?rico: Planejamento Normativo, Planejamento
Estrat?gico Empresarial, Planejamento Estrat?gico Situacional, Planejamento Estrat?gico
Participativo. No entanto comparado aos demais tipos de planejamento existe um determinado
predom?nio do Planejamento Estrat?gico Situacional. Devido ?s caracter?sticas identificadas:
exist?ncia de v?rios atores, an?lise situacional e a quest?o pol?tica, serem aspectos relevantes
no processo de planejamento na ?rea da sa?de. Quanto as racionalidades foi identificado que a
FUMSSAR possui no seu planejamento caracter?sticas da Racionalidade Instrumental e da
Substantiva. ? poss?vel concluir que, o planejamento ? influenciado tanto pela Racionalidade
Instrumental, que est? presente, principalmente, devido ?s legisla??es existentes que
normatizam o trabalho, e, at? mesmo, pode-se dizer que por uma escolha, quando s?o
empregadas ferramentas normalmente utilizadas no ambiente empresarial. Quanto pela
Racionalidade Substantiva, a qual ? predominante na FUMSSAR, principalmente no n?vel

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
