Major and trace elements, Sr-Nd-Pb isotope data of lavas from D. João de Castro seamount, Azores
No full textThe D. João de Castro seamount is located on the ultraslow diverging Terceira Rift, Azores. D. João de Castro is a young central volcano (<0.5 Ma) with recent volcanic and hydrothermal activity. The central volcano is located on a volcanically active fissure zone where two volcanic ridges extent rift-parallel from the edifice. Submarine lava samples and volcanic glasses were taken from D. João de Castro volcano and the adjacent submarine volcanic ridges (N and NW Castro Ridges). Samples range from the uppermost flanks at ~300 m water depth to ~1350 m water depth at the NW and N Castro Ridges. Samples were taken by TV-guided grab (GEOMAR Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung) and with a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV MARUM Quest 4000) during cruises M113 and M128 with the German research vessel R/V Meteor in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Major element concentrations of all lavas were analyzed in order to estimate the compositional variability of the edifice and the volcanic ridges. Trace element and Sr-Nd-Pb isotopes analyses where then carried out on selected lavas to reconstruct the mantle source signatures and the conditions of melting under which lavas from D. João de Castro formed. The sampling of these volcanic formations was designed to improve our understanding of how central volcanoes are formed in oceanic rift systems

No full text<p>En mémoire de la mémoire, nous nous entretenons aujourd'hui avec Verónica Leite de Castro.<br><br>Verónica Leite de Castro est née à Luanda, la capitale de l'Angola, en 1959. Son père, portugais, a émigré en Angola où il dirigeait un établissement commercial. C'est là qu'il a rencontré la mère de Verónica, une Angolaise née dans la province d'Uíge, fille d'un père portugais blanc et d'une mère bacongo noire du nord de l'Angola. Verónica Leite de Castro a grandi dans une famille de femmes et n'a rencontré son père qu'à l'âge de 16 ans, après être venue vivre au Portugal.<br><br>Le fait de grandir dans une famille dont l'histoire est profondément liée au colonialisme et aux relations de pouvoir et de violence racistes, sexistes et fondées sur la classe sociale qu'il a engendrée a eu un impact sur sa vie ultérieure. Lorsque la révolution du 25 avril 1974, qui a mis fin à la dictature au Portugal, a eu lieu, elle vivait encore en Angola. L'année suivante, elle s'est installée au Portugal. Elle explique qu'elle n'est pas une rapatriée, que son histoire est différente. En examinant le chemin parcouru en termes de mémoire publique du colonialisme au Portugal, Verónica Leite de Castro souligne la manière dont les héritages coloniaux ont encore un effet décisif sur la société portugaise.<br><br>La direction a été assurée par Inês Nascimento Rodrigues, le montage sonore par José Gomes et le graphisme par Márcio de Carvalho. M. de Melo e Castro, um dos maiores representantes da Poesia Experimental em Portugal, fundamenta-se num jogo constante com as linguagens disponíveis, da escrita à imagética, da escrita enquanto imagem, da imagem enquanto inscrição. O objetivo desta reflexão é procurar compreender a postura do poeta perante a tradição partindo de suas experimentações em torno do soneto e de sua busca pelo que chamou “poligonia total da experimentação poética”. Para isso, recorreremos à obra Poligonia do soneto (1963) e a textos teóricos e reflexivos do autor, além de outras leituras críticas.Palavras-chave: soneto; poesia experimental portuguesa; tradição; forma.Abstract: The poetics of E. M. de Melo e Castro, one of the greatest representatives of Experimental Poetry in Portugal, is based on a constant game with the available languages, from writing to imagery, from writing as image, from image as inscription. The purpose of this reflection is to seek to understand the poet’s attitude towards tradition based on his experiments on the sonnet and on his search for what he called “the total polygon of poetic experimentation”. For this, we will use the work Poligonia do soneto (1963) and the author’s theoretical and reflective texts, as well as other critical readings.Keywords: sonnet; Portuguese experimental poetry; tradition; form

Thermal expansion anomalies of R(Fe, M)(12) (R=Y, Nd; M=Mo and Si)
No full textStructural and thermal-expansion anomaly studies on R(Fe,M)(12) (R=Nd and and Y, M=Mo and Si) compounds were performed by x-ray diffraction. Mo atoms occupy the 8i site. While Si atoms occupy the 8f and 8j sites but not the 8i site. Thermal-expansion anomaly shows only in ab plane in the Mo compounds, while becomes very weak and along with only the c axis in the Si compounds. The anomaly was attributed to the contribution of the interactions of short Fe-Fe distances similar to the previous explanation on other R-Fe intermetallics and that of other strongly positive interactions such as 8j-8j.
