    El presente escrito propone una revisión sobre el pensamiento popular, que el autor argentino Rodolfo Kusch hace observando el contexto latinoamericano. Y lo haremos desde la mirada de la antropología filosófica cultural, es al interior de este enfoque donde surge el pensamiento de Kusch, un autor absolutamente relevante respecto del aporte que realiza al problema de «lo popular», junto con las implicancias que esta noción tiene para la comprensión de la cultura actual. Proponemos en primera instancia mirar el contexto general en el que se desarrolla su pensamiento, para luego analizar algunas claves del presente entorno al problema de la «cultura popular», e ir matizando en cada momento con las ideas que tenía Rodolfo Kusch respecto de la cultura. Todo lo anterior irá dialogando con distintos autores tal que nos permita problematizar en todo momento nuestras propias concepciones que tenemos respecto de la noción de lo popular y que sustentan nuestro edificio de creencias y convicciones respecto del tema. Siguiendo este itinerario, pretendemos analizar la compleja relación entre la cultura popular y la cultura dominante. Nuestro interés es examinar cómo se interrelacionan, tensionan y dialogan las distintas culturas al interior del tejido social, junto con ello proponemos explorar y establecer ciertas distinciones que nos permitirán tener claridad respecto de la importancia y la vigencia que tiene preguntarnos por la cultura popular hoy. También someteremos a examen y crítica, las propuestas que Rodolfo Kusch propone para así dialogar con distintas posturas que nos permitan la construcción de un panorama amplio, generador de sentidos al momento de mirar a la cara las distintas expresiones culturales.This paper proposes a review of popular thought, which the Argentine author Ro-dolfo Kusch does, observing the Latin American context. Propomos em primeiro lugar olhar para o contexto geral em que se desenvolve o seu pensamento, para depois analisar algumas chaves do ambiente atual para o problema da "cultura popular", e esclarecer a cada momento as ideias que Rodolfo Kusch tinha a respeito cultura. Tudo isso estará em diálogo com diferentes autores de modo que nos permita problematizar a todo momento as próprias concepções que temos sobre a noção do que é popular e que sustentam nosso edifício de crenças e convicções sobre o assunto. Seguindo este itinerário, pretendemos analisar a complexa relação entre cultura popular e cultura dominante. Nosso interesse é examinar como diferentes culturas se inter-relacionam, tensionam e dialogam dentro do tecido social. Ao mesmo tempo, propomos explorar e estabelecer certas distinções que nos permitirão ter clareza sobre a importância e a validade de perguntar sobre a cultura popular hoje.     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     The following article aims to highlight the importance of critical thinking for the development of the autonomy of learning in the students within the educational establishments of our country. From our experience of working with the school system, we observe the need and urgency to promote specific skills linked to critical thinking, such as systematic reflection, critical analysis, development of creativity, commitment to the task of thinking and sensitivity to the cultural and social context. Research in education suggests that in recent years educational processes have moved with minimal levels of achievement in the development of higher-order skills, such as critical thinking and autonomous learning. The evident problem that involves the implementation of curricula oriented towards an approach focused on the acquisition of knowledge, above the development of thinking skills that allow contextualizing, applying and operationalizing the content acquired, are some of the questions that we We will take care of this writing. With the understanding that, until we are able to transfer and apply knowledge to everyday life (the fundamental operation of critical thinking), the effort in education will be in vain. For this, we point out some proposals in the direction of raising new guiding standards that nurture the competition of critical thinking, such that it becomes operational at the school classroom level.El artículo que a continuación presentamos tiene por objetivo el relevar la importancia del pensamiento crítico para el desarrollo de la autonomía de los aprendizajes en los y las estudiantes al interior de los establecimientos educativos de nuestro país. A partir de la experiencia de trabajo con el sistema escolar, observamos la necesidad y urgencia de impulsar habilidades específicas vinculadas al pensamiento crítico, como lo son la reflexión sistemática, el análisis crítico, el desarrollo de la creatividad, el compromiso con la tarea del pensar y la sensibilidad con el contexto cultural y social. Las investigaciones en educación sugieren que en los últimos años los proceso educativos se mueven con niveles mínimos de logros en el desarrollo de habilidades de orden superior, como lo son el pensamiento crítico y el aprendizaje autónomo. El evidente problema que conlleva la implementación de planes de estudios orientados hacia un enfoque centrado en la adquisición de conocimientos, por sobre el desarrollo de habilidades del pensamiento que permitan contextualizar, aplicar y operacionalizar los contenidos adquiridos, son algunos de los cuestionamientos de los que nos haremos cargo en este escrito. En el entendido de que, mientras no seamos capaces de transferir y aplicar conocimientos a la vida cotidiana (operación fundamental del pensamiento crítico), el esfuerzo en educación será en vano. Para ello señalamos algunas propuestas en la dirección de levantar nuevos estándares orientadores que nutran a la competencia del pensamiento crítico, tal que se vuelva operativo a nivel de aula escola

    Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
