The aim of the present study was to analyze the efficacy of exclusive use of violet light in dental bleaching, comparing it with the conventional dental bleaching, made with the 35% hydrogen peroxide bleaching gel associated with the use of violet light. A total of ten patients were evaluated, so that each hemi-arcade was analyzed separately. In the upper and lower right hemi-arches of the patients, exclusive bleaching was performed with the Bright Max Whitening system (MMOPTICS, Brazil) while in the upper and lower left hemi-arches the association of violet light with the 35% Hydrogen peroxide whitening gel (Kit lase peroxide flex, DMC, São Carlos, Brazil) was. According to protocol, prophylaxis, gingival tissue protection and color registration using spectrophotometer (Easy Shade Advance 4.0, Vita Wilcos, Germany) and photographs (D3000, Nikon, Japan) were performed. A metal matrix was fixed between the central incisors so that the bleaching gel of the upper and lower left hemi-archae did not extend to the right side. The device was activated for 60 seconds, followed by a 30-second pause, twenty times, totaling 30 minutes of clinical session, according to the manufacturer's indication. In all, there were three sessions in each patient, with interval of seven days between them. At the end of the treatment, the color was re-measured, using the spectrophotometer and photographs. We also analyzed the posttreatment sensitivity of the patients through a questionnaire (VAS). In view of the limitations of this study and based on the analysis of the ΔE of the analyzed anterior teeth, the hydrogen peroxide gel associated to violet light (LED) obtained greater efficiency (color change) in dental bleaching and was associated with higher dental sensitivity indexes that the isolated use of the vole light, however, the same one presented statistically significant results in the dental whitening

François Broos (1903-2002), a distinguished Belgian violist, was the main promoter of the viola as an autonomous instrument in Portugal. Although several texts mention the important role of this violist, they do not respond in depth to the relevance and impact that François Broos had on the performative and pedagogical practices of the violist after his arrival in the country in the mid-20th century. Based on interviews with students and family of François Broos, as well as the collection, analysis and comparison of materials, this work seeks to outline the course of this violist's musical life and verify the procedures in which his performative and pedagogical activities were developed in Portugal. It then seeks to verify the impact of its emancipatory role on the performative and pedagogical practice of viola in Portugal. This work allowed us to ascertain that François Broos developed an intense and important activity in Portugal that had repercussions on the emancipation of the performative practice of the viola in the country and consequently on the triggering of the writing of new Portuguese works dedicated to this instrument, as well as on the emancipation of the pedagogical practice both in terms of attracting students to learn this instrument, as well as in the designation, application and composition of written material for the specificities of the viola.Programa Doutoral em Músic

    Get PDF
The present study empirically examines the financial performance of European companies and tries to identify the profitability differences that exist between: enterprises with same profile, economic sectors and between several countries from the European Union. Based on data of the year 2009, the newest available on the BACH-ESD database, three financial performance main indicators are being calculated, namely: Return on Assets, Return on Equity and Net Margin. Results are discussed and compared with the ones obtained in former similar studies and some conclusions are drawn. The most performing sectors are found to be mining, quarrying, professional, scientific and technical activities, utilities and IT&C. The sectors that perform the worst are transport and storage, agriculture, accommodation and food service. As shown in other studies the most profitable and competitive companies in the sample belong to the Nederland, Belgium and Austria and the least profitable ones are situated in Italy and Portugal. As a complementary useful result of the study, the average values obtained for the three variables, in the various sectors considered, can be utilized for future comparisons, for assessing the financial performance of companies that belong to same sectors as those surveyed. This paper is a dissemination of the results obtained by the author in the doctoral program "The financial performance of EU member states' companies", coordinator: Professor Carmen Corduneanu, PhD, carried out within West University of Timişoara, Romania, in the period October 2010- July 2012.financial performance, return on assets, return on equity, net margin, BACH-ESD database

    No full text
The bleaching agents used in dentistry for tooth whitening cause changes that can lead to dentin sensitivity and pulp changes. This paper discusses the use of violet LED in tooth whitening as an alternative to tooth sensitivity. Currently, there is a need for further studies regarding the effectiveness and adverse effects of this technology, which proves to be an effective alternative to reducing the use or even replacing whitening gels that cause greater sensitivity after tooth whitening. This study is a literature review, with an exploratory qualitative approach through narrative review. Articles published between 2013 and 2023 in the main databases (PUBMED, MEDLINE, LILACS, SCIELO and BIREME) were selected through the combination of Boolean operators (and/and, or/ou, not/and not/ and not), without language restriction, using the descriptors “Tooth whitening”, “violet LED”, “dental sensitivity” and “Pulp dental”. Most studies point out that when there is greater infiltration of bleaching agents in the pulp chamber, it is related to the increase in gel concentration and/or time of exposure to the product, the number of sessions and pH of the product. The present work demonstrated that the use of violet LED in association or not with whitening gels can be an alternative, but that further investigations are still necessary on the real efficiency of this technology. Despite this, this study observed that the use of violet LED is a good option for tooth whitening and tooth sensitivity caused by bleaching using bleaching gels, given the shorter exposure time of the tooth to bleaching substances. Aracaj

The aim of this study was to assess the bleaching effect and physicochemical on enamel of a violet light and ozone, associate or not to hydrogen peroxide, compared to 35% hydrogen peroxide. Enameldentin blocks from human molars were randomly allocated to receive one of following bleaching protocols (n=15): 35% hydrogen peroxide, violet light, ozone, the association between hydrogen peroxide with ozone or violet light. All protocols were performed in two sessions with a 48h interval between them. Color (spectrophotometer) and mineral composition (Raman spectroscopy) of tooth were measured before and after the bleaching procedures. Color changes were calculated by ΔEab and ΔE00, and whitening index was calculated in both assessment times. Surface roughness of bleached specimens was measured by atomic force microscope. Data were analyzed by One-way ANOVA or two-way repeated measure ANOVA followed by Tukey’s test (α = 0.05). Lowest values of color changes (either measured by WI, ΔEab or ΔE00) were observed for violet light and ozone used in absence of hydrogen peroxide. Violet light associate to hydrogen peroxide was unable to improve the color changes observed for the peroxide alone but combining ozone and hydrogen peroxide yield the highest color changes. Irrespective of bleaching protocol, the bleached enamel presented higher contents of PO4 and CO3-2 than those observed at baseline. No significant difference was observed between the tested bleaching protocols regarding the surface roughness of bleached enamel. It is possible to conclude that either violet light or ozone had reduced effects on the enamel color change when used alone. Ozone therapy improved the bleaching effect of 35% hydrogen peroxide. All evaluated protocols resulted in similar modification on enamel surface.
