RNA structure analysis via the rigid block model
No full textRNA structure is at the forefront of our understanding of the origin of life, and the mechanisms of life regulation and control. RNA plays a primordial role in some viruses. Our knowledge of the importance of RNA in cellular regulation is relatively new, and this knowledge, along with the detailed structural elucidation of the transcription machine, the ribosome, has propelled interest in understanding RNA to a level which starts to closely resemble that given to proteins and DNA. In the process of progressively understanding the landscape of functionality of such a complex polymer as RNA, one practical task left to the structural chemist is to understand the details of how structure relates to large-scale polymer processes. With this in mind the fundamental problems which fuel the work described in this thesis are those of the conformations which RNA’s assume in nature, and the aim to understand how RNA folds. The RNA folding problem can be understood as a mechanical problem. Therefore efforts to determine its solution are not foreign to the use of statistical mechanical methods combined with detailed knowledge of atomic level structure. El proceso histórico de la izquierda política colombiana 2002-2014
No full textThe objective of this work is to analyze the process initiated by the Colombian left-wing in 2002 in reaction to the rise of the Uribist right-wing, which meant, on the one hand, a harmony with the political processes of the continent, and on the other, a project that has as goal to unify the Colombian left-wing under a single party. Afterward, when Juan Manuel Santos was elected and his approach to the negotiated solution to the armed conflict was a watershed that opened a space for the emergence of new social and political actors.
This work is divided into three chapters. The first, seeks to reconstruct the Latin American context and the policy of alliances that gave rise to the PDA; the second, analyzes the government exercise of the left-wing, in particular, the mayorships of Garzón, Moreno and Petro, where the lack of an alternative model of government is evident; third, it analyzes the impact of the government of Juan Manuel Santos and the appearance of the expressions Marcha Patriótica (Patriotic March) and Congreso de los pueblos (Congress of the Peoples), which diversify the political actors and show the need to characterize the left-wing as sociopolitical, as the social actors seek to occupy the space of the parties.
In the end, it is evident that, during the period studied, the centrality of the PDA was lost, due to internal problems of governance and corruption, as well as external factors such as the peace process that affected the diversification of the actors and repertoires that change and puts new challenges to the unity project of the Colombian left-wing.Este trabajo tiene como objetivo un análisis del proceso que inició la izquierda colombiana en 2002 en reacción al ascenso de la derecha uribista y que significó, por un lado, una sintonía con los procesos políticos del continente, y por el otro, un proyecto que pretendía unificar a la izquierda colombiana bajo un solo partido. Posteriormente, la llegada al poder de Juan Manuel Santos y la apuesta a la solución negociada al conflicto armado fue un parteaguas que abrió un espacio para que emergieran nuevos actores sociales y políticos.
El trabajo está divido en tres capítulos. El primero, busca reconstruir el contexto latinoamericano y la política de alianzas que dio origen al PDA; el segundo, analiza el ejercicio de gobierno de la izquierda, en especial, las alcaldías de Garzón, Moreno y Petro, donde se evidencia la falta de un modelo alternativo de gobierno; tercero, analiza el impacto del gobierno de Juan Manuel Santos y la aparición de las expresiones Marcha Patriótica y Congreso de los Pueblos, las cuales diversifican los actores políticos y muestran la necesidad de caracterizar la izquierda como sociopolítica, pues los actores sociales buscan ocupar el espacio de los partidos.
Al final, se evidencia que, durante el periodo estudiado, la centralidad del PDA se perdió, debido a problemas internos de gobernabilidad y corrupción, así como factores externos como el proceso de paz que incidieron en la diversificación de los actores y repertorios que cambia y pone nuevos retos al proyecto de unidad de la izquierda colombiana.Magíster en Historia. RESUMEN
El diseño de un plan estratégico de mercadeo y publicidad se produjo por medio de la utilización de una metodología mixta de investigación, la cual se apoyó en los instrumentos: cuestionario y entrevista semiestructurada. Con la información obtenida se identificaron datos importantes que permitieron conocer más la perspectiva y la realidad de la empresa desde su comportamiento interno hasta la percepción externa que los clientes y mercado tiene de la empresa. También permitió acercar más a la empresa a conocer la realidad respecto a las tendencias, pensamientos e intereses de sus clientes actuales y potenciales. De esta manera, se logró diseñar diferentes estrategias de marketing y publicidad que permitieron que FRESH COOL pudiese conocer cómo está marchando el funcionamiento interno de la empresa, y cómo es percibida la marca, como producto y como servicio de climatización frente a su público objetivo. De igual manera, el presente proyecto propone
sugerencias que contribuyen a la elaboración del plan estratégico de marketing y publicidad que puedan ser adaptadas fácilmente a cualquier tipo de empresa, y favorezca a futuros investigadores en la labor de desarrollo de planes mercadeo y publicidad, buscando soluciones a los problemas presentados durante el camino a todas aquellas personas que principian en este emocionante mundo.

ABSTRACT
The design of a strategic plan for marketing and advertising was produced through the use of a mixed research methodology, which was based on the instruments: questionnaire and semi-structured interview. With the information obtained, important data were identified that allowed us to know more about the perspective and reality of the company from its internal behavior to the external perception that customers and the market have of the company. It also allowed closer to the company to know the reality regarding the trends, thoughts and interests of their current and potential customers. In this way, different marketing and advertising strategies could be designed to allow FRESH COOL to know how the company's internal operations are going, and how the brand is perceived, as a product and as an air conditioning service in front of its target audience.
In the same way, the present project wants to propose suggestions that contribute to the elaboration of the strategic marketing and advertising plan that can be easily adapted to any type of company, that contribute to future researchers in the development of marketing and advertising plans, looking for solutions to the problems presented along the way to all those people who begin in this exciting world.

An Assessment of How Urban Crime and Victimization Affects Life Satisfaction
No full textWe assess the effect of the homicide rate, individual´s perception of security in their neighborhood of residence, and of the effect of their having been victimized, on life satisfaction. We find a negative effect of the homicide rate on life satisfaction for the subsample of individuals living in their current houses for at least 10 years or more, who had moved to that place at some point in the past. We also find a positive and robust effect of the perception of security in the households´neighborhood for the whole sample, and for different subsamples considered. Having been victim of an offense is also robustly negatively related to life satisfaction, in particular in the cases where the offense was robbery.Quality of Life, Life Satisfaction, Crime. Observancia de las guías de práctica clínica para la toxoplasmosis congénita en Colombia
No full textIntroduction. Congenital toxoplasmosis is associated with high morbidity and mortality in the neonatal period. Despite the existence of a Colombian clinical practice guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of gestational and congenital toxoplasmosis, adherence to its recommendations remains unknown.Objective. To evaluate adherence to the Colombian clinical practice guidelines of congenital and gestational toxoplasmosis in two hospitals in Medellin during 2016-2020.Materials and methods. We conducted a descriptive study in children under one year of age with suspected or confirmed congenital toxoplasmosis, treated at two hospitals in Medellin between 2016 and 2020. We used proportion measures to assess adherence to the clinical practice guidelines recommendations.Results. Two hundred and forty-seven children were included; 17% had a confirmed congenital toxoplasmosis diagnosis. Adherence to the different clinical practice guidelines recommendations was variable. To diagnose gestational toxoplasmosis, immunoglobulins G and M serologies were ordered in 85.4% of the cases. Use of other diagnostic tests – depending on the clinical situation– ranged from 20 to 41.5%; amniocentesis was indicated in 42.9% of pregnant women, whereas IgM, IgG, and IgA were ordered for 50.6% of newborns. Spiramycin was prescribed to 68.8% of mothers diagnosed with gestational toxoplasmosis. Among patients diagnosed with congenital toxoplasmosis, 80.9% presented clinicalmanifestations; the most common were those of the central nervous system. The highest adherence to the clinical practice guidelines was observed for the treatment of congenital toxoplasmosis (96.7%).Conclusions. Adherence to the recommendations of the Colombian clinical practice guidelines for congenital and gestational toxoplasmosis is variable, likely due to implementation barriers, such as limited dissemination, insufficient training or updates for healthcare personnel, and challenges in accessing diagnostic studies and ensuring followup. We recommend developing institutional and government policies to provide periodic updates to prenatal care and newborn care personnel.Introducción. La toxoplasmosis congénita está asociada con una gran morbimortalidad durante el periodo neonatal. Aunque existe una guía de práctica clínica colombiana para el diagnóstico y el tratamiento de la toxoplasmosis gestacional y congénita, se desconoce el grado de cumplimiento de sus recomendaciones.Objetivo. Evaluar la observancia de las recomendaciones de la guía colombiana de práctica clínica para la toxoplasmosis congénita y gestacional en dos hospitales de Medellín entre el 2016 y el 2020.Materiales y métodos. Se desarrolló un estudio descriptivo en menores de un año con sospecha o diagnóstico confirmado de toxoplasmosis congénita en dos hospitales de Medellín entre el 2016 y el 2020. Se usaron frecuencias relativas para evaluar el cumplimiento de las recomendaciones.Resultados. Se incluyeron 247 niños; el 17 % fueron diagnosticados con toxoplasmosis congénita. La observancia de las diferentes recomendaciones de la guía de práctica clínica colombiana fue variable. Para el diagnóstico de toxoplasmosis gestacional, se evaluaron las concentraciones de inmunoglobulinas G y M en el 85,4 % de las pacientes. Las recomendaciones sobre otras pruebas diagnósticas se acataron del 20 al 41,5 % de los casos, según las diferentes circunstancias clínicas. Se practicó amniocentesis al 42,9 % de las mujeres gestantes con indicación y se ordenaron serologías de IgM, IgG e IgA al 50,6 % de los recién nacidos. Se prescribió espiramicina al 68,8 % de las madres con toxoplasmosis gestacional. El 80,9 % de los pacientes con toxoplasmosis congénita presentó manifestaciones clínicas; aquellas relacionadas con el sistema nervioso central fueron las más comunes. La mayor observancia de la guía de práctica clínica colombiana (96,7 %), fue respecto al tratamiento de la toxoplasmosis congénita.Conclusiones. La observancia de las recomendaciones de la guía de práctica clínica colombiana es variable y depende de las barreras para su implementación, como la falta de difusión de la guía, la falta de actualización del personal de salud y las dificultades para acceder a estudios de diagnóstico y a un seguimiento adecuado. Se recomienda el desarrollo de políticas institucionales y gubernamentales que garanticen la actualización periódica del personal encargado del control prenatal y de la atención al recién nacido
