Le Génie de la Révolution. La concezione della Rivoluzione nel Saggio di Chateaubriand
The article aims to understand the notion underlying the term “revolution” in René de Chateaubriand’s Essay on Revolutions, making particular reference not only to the substantial notes of the 1826 re-edition, provided by the author himself, but also to the conceptual constellation surrounding the nascent concept of revolution, in particular “history” and “revolutionary rupture”.L’articolo si propone di comprendere la nozione sottesa al termine "rivoluzione" all’interno del Saggio sulle Rivoluzioni di René de Chateaubriand, facendo particolare riferimento non solo alle corpose note apportate nella riedizione del 1826 dallo stesso autore, ma anche alla costellazione concettuale che circonda il nascente concetto di rivoluzione, in particolare "storia" e "rottura rivoluzionaria"
All’origine dell’ordine.
tenuta dell’ordine e dell’ordinamento.
The aim of this thesis is to investigate the relationship in Carl Schmitt's thought between the sociology of juridical concepts and the development, within it, of a reflection on the political myth - a problematisation that would later become a constant leitmotif within the jurist's reflection. Schmitt, having always focused on the problem of order and the constitution of the order - specifically, the constitution of an ordered and concrete structure that could confer stability and duration to a plural reality after having given it form -, experiments, throughout his long production, with different types of analysis of the structures that have shaped political modernity, always bearing in mind the problem of the maintenance of order and the order. In this sense, the thesis retraces in the first two parts the (socio-legal-political) problems that Schmitt inherited from the German tradition and shows their original (and admittedly debatable) solutions, while in the last two parts it attempts a theoretical exploration of the epistemological mechanisms that guided those same choices: namely, on the one hand, the formulation of the sociology of juridical concepts understood as political theology (whose function is to give order to political phenomena around a model that knows how to contain the entropic drives of politicality itself) and, on the other hand, having ascertained the difficulty of the latter to be an effective solution to the impoliticity promoted by liberal schemes, the proposition of an integration of this methodology with a political mythology, in the sense of a recovery of the political myth as a marker of normative virtuality, at the moment when a decision grasps situational elements of the life of a people that are not immediately legal or political in the narrow sense of the expression and configures them in relation to what is law and what is politics, thus allowing, in a very personal institutional guise, the theological-political flaws to be recalibrated. At the moment when even this solution, linked to disastrous biographical events, will not allow for the longed-for 'salvation' of political unity, Schmitt will rethink the relationship between political mythology and political theology in the light of the founder of modern political science, Thomas Hobbes, thus laying the foundation for his mature reflections
Le lacrime di Achab. L’istituzionalismo mitologico di Carl Schmitt
The purpose of this essay is to investigate the relationship between Schmitt’s institutionalist
phase typical of the 1930s and the grafting, within it, of a reflection on the political myth, a reflection that
will be a constant Leitmotiv in the subsequent thought of the jurist. Schmitt, having always concentrated on
the problem of order and on the constitution of the system – specifically on the constitution of a concrete
and lasting system that can give shape to a plural reality – experiments in the course of his long production
with different ploys, concentrating first on the decision, then on the probative force of the institutions, but
always keeping in mind the unitary problem of the maintenance of the system. These reflections will come
together during and after the Nazi phase, in the delineation of the effective aspects of the political myth, as
a creator of regulation in the moment in which a sovereign decision captures situational elements of the life
of a people that are not immediately juridical or political in the restricted sense of the expression and
configures them in relation to what is law and what is politics
Voyage au bout de la théologie politique. Carl Schmitt e la postfazione di Teologia politica II
On the occasion of Hans Blumenberg’s arguments in his book The Legitimacy of the Modern Age, which did not accept the theses set forth in Political Theology, Carl Schmitt, in the afterword to Political Theology II, returns to the question of the legitimacy of the Gesamtordnung by insistently relating it to the entire conceptual constellation of his thought. The first part of the paper will briefly reconstruct what meaning Schmitt gives to the lemma Political Theology and in what sense the secularisation of modern political concepts plays a central role in it. The second part will attempt to understand why the text attracted criticism from Blumenberg, and why according to him secularisation is primarily a linguistic problem indicating a gap in semantic function. Finally, the last part will analytically trace Schmitt’s response to the German philosopher: it will be seen how the jurist not only reiterates how it is not possible to eliminate transcendence from the modern political horizon, but how the political categories themselves are intimately affected by the ineradicable question of enmity, which can only be grasped through fundamental questioning of the origin of theological-political concepts. As much as it takes the form of an “impossible dialogue”, since both remain firm on their positions, the confrontation between Schmitt and Blumenberg is a precious testimony of how necessary it is to confront the problem of transcendence in the production of the political order
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
