Culture, Constructivism, and Media: Designing a Module on Carlos Slim
No full textMexican tycoon Carlos Slim Helú has been a fixture on Forbes’s list of billionaires since 1991, and for the past three years, he has topped the magazine’s list of the world’s richest men. Although he is exceptionally well-known in his native Mexico, the majority of American college students have never heard of Carlos Slim. This article presents a curricular module built around this charismatic and controversial figure. The module requires students to navigate Internet-supported news media in the target language (Spanish), and engages them in independent, small-group, and larger, teacher-led activities designed to foster critical and comparative skills in cultural competency and analysis through process-based, student-led inquiry. Pedagogically and methodologically, the author engages with the recommendations and conclusions of recent studies by ACTFL and MLA committees, as well as by other leading scholars, regarding both the use of technology in the classroom and the idea of “teaching culture.” The unit’s content significantly deepens and enriches students’ understanding of social, economic, and political issues in modern Mexico. The article carefully situates each stage and aspect of the curricular unit presented in relation to recent studies of constructivism in foreign language acquisition and on the hierarchy of Bloom’s taxonomy of learning objectives

No full textEl presente trabajo es una exposición del pensamiento de José Carlos Mariátegui en sus aspectos filosóficos, metódicos, económicos y políticos, partiendo de un punto de madurez en su producción intelectual. Donde empezando con una exposición de su experiencia práctica y teórica total, pasando por una dilucidación de las tendencias interpretativas desde las cuales se ha recepcionado su legado, a través de una explicación histórica y social, se exponen sus ideas de formulación de un marxismo latinoamericano, donde resaltando sus principales contenidos, definido filosófica y metódicamente, el autor dio cuenta de la realidad peruana de la época y formuló un camino para construir el socialismo en ese país. De lo anterior, teniendo en cuenta sus estudios y obra expuestos como componentes de su proceso social, se realiza una definición contemporánea de su legado, abstrayendo sus principales contribuciones a la Sociología y las Ciencias Sociales.The main work is exposure thought of José Carlos Mariátegui in his philosophical, methodical, economic and political aspects, starting from a point of intellectual maturity of his work. Para isso, analisarei a tradução de Marcel Proust para o francês e seu paratexto e a tradução para o castelhano feita por Miguel Catalán e o respectivo paratexto.This study analises the translations of Sesame and Lilies, by John Ruskin, into French and Spanish in order to examine issues related to the essay as a literary genre, to the translation of essays and to authorship. This exam will be carried out by analising the translation into French by Marcel Proust and its paratext and the translation into Spanish by Miguel Catalán, accompanied by its paratext

No full textAs lajes nervuradas de concreto armado são constituídas por vigas solidarizadas por uma mesa de concreto, estas lajes podem ser totalmente moldadas \"in loco\", ou possuirem parte das vigas (nervuras) pré-moldadas. Existem algumas particularidades tanto no dimensionamento, desde a obtenção dos esforços solicitantes, quanto na execução das lajes nervuradas. O conhecimento dessas particularidades, bem como o caminhamento correto, desde o projeto até a execução das lajes é fundamental para o bom desempenho das mesmas, de maneira segura e econômica. Estas particularidades são analisadas, incluindo-se algumas recomendações das normas, sendo apresentados resultados e comentários embasados na bibliografia pesquisada e algumas considerações do autor deste trabalho. Analisam-se, também, através de exemplos de aplicação os casos mais comuns de lajes nervuradas, inclusive com o detalhamento das armaduras.The rib reinforced concrete slabs are made solid beams on a concrete table; these slabs can be completely shaped in loco or they have a part of the beams pre-shaped. There are some particularities even in the dimensions (since the acquisition of the solicitant efforts) as in the execution of the rib reinforced concrete slabs. The knowledge of these particularities, as well as the correct procedures, since the project till the execution of the slabs is fundamental for the good perfomance of them, in a safe and economic mood. These particularities are analysed including some recommendations of the norms; the results and the commentaries are based and presented in the researched bibliography and some considerations of the author of this work. The most common cases of the rib reinforced concrete slabs are analysed through application examples, including the armature details

Programa de Pós-graduação em LiteraturaEsta dissertação investiga procedimentos da escritura de Evandro Affonso Ferreira, autor brasileiro contemporâneo com cinco livros publicados até o momento. Estes procedimentos são estudados a partir de como suas personagens se movem. O trabalho se divide em duas partes: a primeira é um jogo entre uma galeria (possível e falhada) de estúpidos e suas "vidas infames", acerca da experiência e da existência precárias dessas personagens. O jogo se dá num contágio com as artes visuais (Marcelo Coutinho, Elida Tessler e León Ferrari) e com alguns outros textos ficcionais de autores como Gusmán, Kafka, Melville, Walser etc. A segunda é como o autor trabalha com seus textos, seus livros e o léxico que usa - as palavras sonoras -, como se tudo isso formasse um só livro, livre numa biblioteca de babel da língua, da imaginação, da memória, da literatura. O livro como objeto que compõe a trajetória de um autor-leitor, a sua coleção babélica. Para isso faço uso de teóricos como Agamben, Benjamin, Blanchot, Derrida, Deleuze, Foucault entre outros. This dissertation investigates writing procedures by Evandro Affonso Ferreira, a contemporary Brazilian author with five books published so far. These procedures are studied according to the movement of the characters. The work is divided in two parts: the first one is a game for a galery (possible and failed) of stupids and its "infamous lives" regarding the precarious experience and existence of these characters. The game happens in an involvement with the visual arts (Marcelo Coutinho, Elida Tessler and León Ferrari) and with some other fictional texts from authors like Gusmán, Kafka, Melville, Walser etc. The second one is how the author works with his texts, books and the lexicon he uses - the sonorous words -, as all this would form a single (an unique) book, free in a Babel library of the language, of the imagination, of the memory, of the literature. The book as an object that compounds the trajectory of an author-reader, his Babelic collection. For this I use the theories of Agamben, Benjamin, Blanchot, Derrida, Deleuze, Foucault and others
