Wor(l)d-making Libraries: Fantastic Libraries as Creators of Alternative Realities
No full textFantasy fiction often appropriates the topos of the library to reflect upon the generative power of literature and on our ability to tap into it. Since the publication of Jorge Luis Borges’ influential short story, The Library of Babel (1941), the image of the library as a universe in itself, as a repository of virtually boundless (if unfathomable and labyrinthine) knowledge has become a recurring feature in fantasy literature. This essay seeks to investigate how British author Genevieve Cogman and American author Scott Hawkins refer to this tradition in their respective novels The Invisible Library (2014) and The Library at Mount Char (2015), through an analysis of some specific elements. In both texts, the structure of the library is represented as an interdimensional core, a macrocosm from which other dimensions may develop (including our own): each alternative reality hinges upon the library, which is in itself boundless, albeit rigorously arranged. While Cogman chooses to highlight the library’s function as a portal to other worlds, thus staging a traditional quest consistent with the informing paradigms of fantasy fiction, Hawkins stresses its metaphysical quality, reflecting upon the idea of God and its viability in our contemporary culture. Furthermore, these conceptions are equally associated with an understanding of language which enhances the tropes of words as “speaking” things into existence. Whether enchanting or emanating from the library’s ordering force, the verbal tools devised by Cogman and Hawkins revolve around the idea that language is power, and that through language reality can be reshaped

Beckett è un esempio paradigmatico della poetica teatrale degli spazi aperti e dell'utopia della comunità di Carlo Quartucci e la sua Compagnia della Ripresa (nella quale spiccavano per talento e personalità, tra gli altri, Leo De Berardinis e Rino Sudano). Il linguaggio teatrale in fieri di Quartucci da una dimensione teatrale autodiretta e ancora poetica fuoriesce dal sistema degli Stabili e sfocia nell’utopia di uno spazio di ricerca “altro” che assume il topos degli spazi aperti e periferici, preludio della lunga stagione di Camion. Sullo sfondo le avanguardie storiche, la fenomenologia e le ragioni dell’arte di gruppo (in questo caso la Compagnia della Ripresa) che mutuando una definizione di Giulio Carlo Argan, nascono per salvaguardare la libera attività dell’individuo dalla inerzia torpida e letale della massa (teatrale)

No full textHere we present the dataset of the descriptive analysis of the bibliographic production of the world renowned heteropterist Dr. Jocélia Grazia. We analyzed a total of 220 published documents, including scientific papers, scientific notes, and book chapters. Additionally, we applied the Plazi workflow to extract taxonomic treatments, images, tables, and references from 75 different documents in accordance with the FAIR (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reuse). The extracted treatments are available on TreatmentBank.

Muovendo da questa premessa, l’Autore analizza la valenza della certezza e del dubbio nel diritto processuale penale e nel diritto penale sostanziale, nonché nelle scelte di incriminazione, nella formulazione/interpretazione della legge, nella imputazione causale e colposa dell’evento, fino alla colpevolezza e ai giudizi di pericolosità.Criminal law requires certainty by restricting as far as possible the operation of any doubts, because through certainty unavoidable guarantee requirements are satisfied. However, upon a more in-depth analysis, we realize that criminal law is a very complex reality and articulated in a multiplicity of components, contexts and perspectives with respect to which the certainty / doubt dichotomy takes on different and peculiar meanings.
