Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Get PDFEl experimento 3 se diseñó para obtener una evidencia equivalente a la obtenida en el experimento 2 usando un procedimiento típico de aversión condicionada al sabor poniendo énfasis en el control del precondicionamiento sensorial. En este experimento cuatro grupos de ratas recibieron una preexposición en bloques a AX–BX, A–X, AX–B o a A–BX. Tras la preexposición y condicionamiento del sabor X los test con los sabores A, B y X indicaron que la ingesta del sabor A en el Grupo AX–BX fue similar a la del Grupo AX–B, donde la asociación A↔X no pudo haber sido extinguida, indicando que la preexposición por bloques a AX–BX no dio lugar a la extinción de la asociación A↔X establecida en el primer bloque de preexposición.
Una vez comprobado que la asociación intracompuesto establecida en el primer bloque de preexposición no se extingue en el segundo los experimentos 4 y 5 se diseñaron para estudiar las condiciones necesarias para producir la extinción de la asociación establecida en el primer bloque.
En el experimento 4 se estudió la influencia del número de presentaciones del compuesto del segundo bloque sobre la extinción de la asociación establecida en el primer bloque. En este experimento dos grupos de ratas recibieron una preexposición por bloques corta (4 presentaciones) o larga (14 presentaciones) a AX–BX. Después de la preexposición y posterior condicionamiento del sabor X los test con los sabores A y B indicaron que la asociación A↔X establecida en el primer bloque se mantuvo preservada en ambos grupos.
El experimento 5 tuvo el propósito de estudiar la influencia del número de rupturas de la asociación intracompuesto establecida en el primer bloque durante el segundo bloque. Los resultados de este experimento mostraron que el número de rupturas es un factor clave para producir la extinción de una asociación intracompuesto.
En conjunto, los resultados de este trabajo indican que en una preexposición por bloques la asociación intracompuesto del establecida en el primer bloque no se extingue en el segundo y que para producirla no basta la presentación separada de los elementos del compuesto original, sino que es necesario producir al menos dos rupturas de la asociación. Los resultados de este trabajo pueden aportar información novedosa para ajustar las actuales teorías sobre el aprendizaje perceptivo.
Fecha de Lectura de Tesis: 23 de julio 2018.Algunas teorías actuales de aprendizaje perceptivo sugieren que en una preexposición en bloques a dos estímulos compuestos (AX, AX, AX, ... BX, BX, BX) la asociación intracompuesto A↔X, establecida durante el primer bloque se debería extinguir a lo largo del segundo bloque. Sin embargo, esta afirmación, así como la explicación del mecanismo responsable de producir tal efecto han sido cuestionados por los resultados de experimentos recientes que indican que las asociaciones establecidas en el primer bloque podrían no extinguirse en el segundo bloque.
Esta tesis doctoral tuvo dos objetivos fundamentales. En primer lugar, estudiar si en una preexposición por bloques a dos compuestos de sabores AX–BX la asociación excitatoria A↔X establecida en el primer bloque de preexposición se extingue en el segundo bloque. En segundo lugar, estudiar las condiciones necesarias para producir la extinción de las asociaciones establecidas en el primer bloque.
Con el fin de comprobar si la asociación A↔X establecida en el primer bloque se extingue en el segundo, se diseñaron tres experimentos.
En el experimento 1, un grupo de ratas recibió una preexposición a AX-BX y otro grupo fue preexpuesto a BX-AX. Tras el condicionamiento de A se observó que la generalización del condicionamiento fue similar en los dos grupos.
El experimento 2 tuvo el propósito de replicar los resultados del experimento anterior evitando la posibilidad de que los resultados pudieran ser explicados por los efectos de la generalización de la aversión condicionada. Para ello, en lugar de usar un procedimiento típico de aversión condicionada al sabor se usó un procedimiento de inducción a un déficit de sodio después de una preexposición a AX-BX o a BX-AX, donde el sabor A fue siempre sal. Los resultados del test mostraron un consumo similar entre ambos grupos indicando que la asociación Sal↔X no se extinguió en ninguno de estos grupos
